Good to see you back in action again. I`ve got a D/R postwar Marx motor that overheats and trips the transformer breaker after ten minutes of running. I`ve cleaned and lubricated, but the problem still persists. Any ideas?
Either a short in the E unit or field coil. Remove the motor and hook it up to your transformer. Keep your fingers on the E unit coil, and the field coil winding. (not necessarily at the same time) Whichever one gets too hot to handle is the culprit. It could be the armature, but you usually see sparks if that's the case.
