maddy that’s exactly what I’m saying I mean the only way she acted that way is cause of them she wasn’t the problem the owners were, notice how she didn’t even want to be touched by them cause she probably thinks they’re going to hurt her
It's nice to see how old misconceptions get corrected since a lot of people who have pets still don't know how to correctly treat them, it's heartwarming to see!
The saddest thing is that they had tried to do the right thing. They'd paid for a dog trainer and were given the advice that they should hang their dog because she was trying to be dominant and it was the way to train her out of that. I'm sure that absolute a***hole told them it didn't hurt her. At least they were smart enough to eventually realise that the trainer was a hack and get a real trainer to help them.
The thing is is that the choke was recommended by another 'trainer,' and they trusted that 'trainer' to know what was and wasn't right for their dog. At least that's what the narrator said anyway
I love how as soon as they started praising and treating her, she watches them and looks to them for direction. Such a good baby. Animals are a mirror to their humans. If you don't want aggression, don't be aggressive
as soon as the choke collar came off her attitude changed completely, that isn't asserting dominance that's terrifying a dog inducing its fight or flight reaction. no dog trainer in their right mind should recommend choke training. not only is it risky for health reasons but it induces a huge amount of fear into the dog.
if used correctly it can be really effective training. prongs, e collars, and slip collar are used in balanced training (so is treats and clicker training) so don't assume that the slip collar is bad because these ppl misused it! (the slip collar is suppose to be higher on the neck and you cannot just keep yanking the dog)
Rainbow Dragon i agree with you but thats only for bigger dogs. The choke collars are never good but prong collars can be useful for bigger dogs behaviors! The prong shouldn’t be used on a dog that small, though, and can be dangerous since the dog is so tiny.
@@banhithecrow990 Not with small dogs like this. Dogs with short snouts like this already have a hard time breathing. Choke collars like this should NEVER be used on dogs like Shih Tzu's, Maltese's, Pugs, etc.

I think they hoped she would do better and hopefully stop being reactive. They didn’t WANT to hurt her but im really glad they’ve changed and learned how to train
Always the case. The dog needs its owners to be diff. Depending on the dog.. You can't just change a dog..you have to learn how that dog works and how to get it to work the way you want🤷
Our family dog is very leash reactive to other dogs too while out on a walk. He doesn’t bite or get agressive at all, he just barks and lunges towards dogs across the street knowing he can’t get to them. For 4 years we have been struggling with this leash reactiveness but never tried clicker training. And seeing how it went for this dog shows how perfect it is for leash training. We’re going to try these tips asap!
That is amazing of you! I`d also recommend to book at least one hour with a trainer so he can explain it properly to you. Clicker training is all about timing and you will not necessarily learn that in a YT video. Good luck :)
I mean technically she is still training the dog because the dog is stressed and very aggressive so she needs to calm the dog... She is just telling the owners what they shouldn’t do and what they should to keep the dog calm. But you are partly true
I'm glad they actually looked for help cause this dog had/has so much to give given a chance, I love the way she looks and one can only imagine the suffering of missing an eye.
it's always the owners, if not the current owners it's the one that came before them. And it's so sad that so many people adopt pets without doing the proper research on how to either train them or just take care of them. I have my current dog as an example, his old owners used to beat him a lot, especially kicking (to the point where when he came to me, we would've to be careful when walking around him, and he was really reactive, u had to be careful even when petting him. I'm really proud of how far I've came with him, cause now I can even pick him up and he wont be bothered and he will even rest his head on my legs, when a few years back he wouldn't even get near.
“I just feel like we are hurting her” OMG REALLY? Duh it’s hurting her your choking your tiny little dog until she passes out, they literally pull her into the air by her neck
Tony Flamingo exactly, now my old dog would like me grabbing his toy then him getting it to get pulled up to the air because it’s like an exercise and he thought it was another animal like a rappig
I absolutely love Victoria’s methods in training, each dog is unique & she tells the owners how it is but she doesn’t judge them she just corrects them. Before we got our first puppy, a Boxer puppy we did lots of research & had a professional trainer come to our house, we didn’t want to set our puppy up to fail. We didn’t know what we were doing we had never owned a big dog the professional trainer was amazing she trained us so then we could train our puppy our Boxer is now 8 years old & our training has never stoped we now have added a staffy & another Boxer to the mix & we have used the same training methods that we do with our very first puppy, so now we have a 8 year old Boxer a 5 year old Staffy & a 3 year old Boxer & they are all thriving. People really need to realise a dogs training never stops, training from the day you get your dog sets it up for life not doing the right thing by our dogs is just unfair to the dog we should alway set our dogs up to thrive.

I'd feel this way if it wasn't for the fact that they really didn't know any better. They got the idea of negative enforcement from ANOTHER dog trainer. It isn't something they just came up with in spite or malice, they just wanted their dog to behave. They took the advice someone claiming to be a professional gave them and, eventually, when they saw it still wasn't helping, went to see a REAL professional. At most, they should receive a fine in my eyes. But to be charged and given jail time isn't fair all things considered; the two got properly educated and STICK to the training instead of continuing on what they were doing before. They didn't know better at the time, and the person who SHOULD know better lead them astray
@Thomas Hoffman you can say your opinion but you don't have to attack her like that try to be more kind and don't tell them to get meds just because they see another person different than you
She’s a great trainer. She doesn’t exactly judge the crap out of the owners but she makes them fully aware that they’re in the wrong the most direct and professional way possible. I inspire to be as good with people and puppies like Vic is!
Victoria knows she also has changed a lot over her career. I remember when she first started she used to always show a pyramid with pictures of the owners/family members where the misbehaving dog was above one or more of the family members and she’d say the dog is up here and needs to come down here, etc. She used to emphasize that the person needed to show the dog who was boss. Sometimes she’d even make them have the dog wait to eat after them to learn their place. She never said choke or hurt dogs but she used to encourage the whole dominance mindset too. Like she said, the training methods were outdated but not off the wall for what people used to do.
@@luxurylifela4559 But unfortunately she will never be able to change the fact that she made a family euthanize their dog… I cant watch this woman without remembering that… This is the second video of her that I watched in a long time..I just can’t…
Notice how Princess's attitude changed almost immediately once they got rid of the collar. Any other bad reaction after that was more out of habit and was actually really easy for her to unlearn. Almost all of their problems were because of that collar.
The fact that these owners weren’t appalled or disgusted just at the thought of choking or hurting the dog in any kind of way shows that they shouldn’t have pets
How does your punitive stance help the hoards of dogs without families who get euthanized? Might I suggest you pull out your clicker and do your part to help people learn what they need to know so they can provide a happy home to a homeless soul?
These people should NOT have a dog. They had six years to think “maybe I should try something else” but they didn’t. Do t give them a chance save that dog! Then teach the owners.
A good solution to that is a prong collar, which constricts but since it has small pegs on it it can’t choke. I use one on my own small puppy (she weighs 11lbs) and she has never been injured by it, and as long as you know the proper technique on using it, it’s harmless and a vital tool in helping to train your animal to maximize safety.
lol nope I’m okay with prong when used correctly and on adult dogs but using it on a small puppy just seems wrong. You could use a gentle leader or a harness that hooks into the front of the chest. This type of harness makes the dog to turn back towards you when it pulls and the gentle lead allows you give more direction to the dog, it’s also hits the pressure points on the head and face where it should be comfortable and it works great when adjusted correctly onto the dog.
20 years ago this was the way professional dog trainers insisted training had to be done. I was a failure because my Jack Russell Terrier didn't respond to the choke collar and I was soft spoken and couldn't shout properly at her. Thank goodness I found a gentle leader in a small pet store. I could have a calm quiet relationship with my dog.
I heard it many times as recently as the 1980s or even 90s. There were a bunch of trainers going around insisting almost every dog training problem was related to dominance, and that the only effective way to tackle it was with physical confrontation or pain or intimidation, and that if it didn't work then you weren't doing it hard enough because clearly you hadn't given an 'effective correction', and that this was 'how wolves do things' (they don't) and totally natural and if you objected you were just soft and anthropomorphasizing and obviously didn't understand dogs. And some of those old books and self-taught 'trainers' who follow them are still around today.
Unfortunately, training like that isn't that uncommon. There are some dog groomers that will essentially waterboard your dog if they are difficult during the bathing.
You know that the one she has on is called a "half choke" collar, right? It wasn't the collar that was the problem, it was how the people were using it
I have had many Shi Tzu and Shih Tzu Mixes over the years. Never ever would I consider putting a choke collar on a Brachycephalic dog. They already have difficulty breathing, why would anyone treat a dog in such a cruel way? Poor Princess. Six years of cruelty. I hate these people.
Rachel Curtis yup, my “friend” had a dog that she has a leash on and pulls everywhere, one day she couldn’t take it anymore then bit my “friend”. My “friend” LITERALLY PULLED UP HER COLLAR THEN SWUNG HER AROUND THE ROOM AND SMASHED HER DOG INTO THE DAMN WINDOW! WHEN I CAME IN SHE WAS KICKING AT HER BLOODY HALF-DEAD DOG AND SCREAMING I PUNCHED HER IN THE FACE AFTER, THAT WAS 5 YEARS AGO, SHE HAS ANOTHER DOG THAT SHE ABUSED WITH A PRONG COLLAR, WHEN SHE TOOK IT OFF HER DOGS TALE WAGGED FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 7 MONTHS, LIKE SERIOUSLY, IF YOU CANT TAKE CARE OF A DOG CORRECTLY THEN DONT GET ONE!!!!!

if used correctly it can be really effective training. prongs, e collars, and slip collar are used in balanced training (so is treats and clicker training) so don't assume that the slip collar is bad because these ppl misused it!

At most, they should receive a fine in my eyes. She never said choke or hurt dogs but she used to encourage the whole dominance mindset too. a choke collar can crush a dog's trachea- especially a small dog.
Lol
so can a flat collar
A good solution to that is a prong collar, which constricts but since it has small pegs on it it can’t choke. I use one on my own small puppy (she weighs 11lbs) and she has never been injured by it, and as long as you know the proper technique on using it, it’s harmless and a vital tool in helping to train your animal to maximize safety.
Martingales are great too!
lol nope
I’m okay with prong when used correctly and on adult dogs but using it on a small puppy just seems wrong.
What "dog trainer" tells people if their dogs dont listen just hang it until the dog passes out...that is ridiculous
It's an old way to beat a dog half to death to get them to submit. It's not right but I used to be common practice
It was very common unfortunately. When I was a teen I remember my neighbours dog-trainer teaching them exactly that.
Yeah the trainer should be arrested
