I'm acctually confused, they said they got him because they wanted a dog to walk, but that little dog is perfectly walkable. they could walk their small dog, who would probobly benefit from walks, and learn to enjoy them.
the wife's idea. i know it's scripted and stuff, but she should have watched her words more carefully, because when she explains the idea, she seems to be so superficial. (a desperate bored housewife)
@@navichan3825 you got a point, but why a doberman? an undefined breed dog from a refuge couldn't have done the trick? she clearly didn't do any research before to adopt the dog, so her choice was purely based on the look, and her fantasy of "long walks in the sunshine".
Dogs aren’t objects that you expect to act perfectly. You get them and you should expect changes in the household. You have to train them to what you desire, and it will cause trouble.
also never get a second dog that the first one doesn't like! it's so irresponsible to just buy a second dog because you want that one you like the most. a second dog has to be choosen VERY wisely.
@@Chuchichaeschtli_ so True. I have 6 dogs and 9 cats and good choince of dogs characters and personalities is key to nice family dynamics. Of course training is a basic thing but not everything can by changed by training. If We have extremely energetic dog we Will never make a couch potato out of him. People make choices with eyes not heads and often it is the dog who pays the biggest price at the end☹️
I would defend them on one thing. A dog’s temperament and actions can change completely from the shelter to your household. That said, you should always see how they act before you put them fully on your responsibility.
Back in 1986 I got a Doberman puppy... Lady. Before I got her, I did loads of research about the breed, so much so, that I planned on getting help from a dog trainer. I also prepared myself for 5 mile walks every day, rain or shine. My Lady was the best dog anyone could have... a loving family dog, a guard dog, a best friend. She gave me 13 and a half years of a devoted family member. I still miss her so much!
Joe Blow YOU got it right... A puppy BITCH. An adult male will arrive in a new environment and look around for a pack leader. Can't find one? "That's the job for ME!"
@@MauriatOttolink If I had bought a dog instead of a bitch, I myself would have become the pack leader. I've had dogs as well. You have to lovingly but firmly show the dog who is the boss... from day one. I've seen people get a puppy, tease it, let the kids tease it and mishandle it. I've warned them what will happen when it grows into a full size dog. And sure enough, they have serious problems as it matures.
Right? Dobermans can be amazing pets/family memebers as long as the owners knows what they are doing. I've grown up with 2, one male and one female. Both were the kindest dogs you'd meet, never showed any signs of aggression. One thing they were not though was guard dogs, especially the male. If something scared him he would actually hide behind me, knowing I'd protect him.
see i considered getting a doberman, then did my research. i realized i wouldnt be able to get one because of my heavy work schedule. DO YOUR RESEARCH dont let the dog suffer!
I don't get why she had a problem in the first place. Initially she said she used to spend half the day in the gym. So surely now she can just workout with her physical dog for the half the day instead. It's not like she has to work or anything. 🤷♂️
@@rainbowpanic5632 you walk him off leash through town? I bet not... Prove me wrong, I can't wait! I walk the dogs in my hood off leash in town, their owners don't, I can and I do. Being the owner and being the leader is not the same. "all aspects" also means being free while walking ANYWHERE... if you have a male dog, you should be able to walk him around female dogs on period without a problem. I bet not... training will make it happen. Just start and grind, some dogs take longer time, some take shorter time, no time limit.
there's a common theme with almost every owner featured on this show. "I got a Doberman cause I wanted walks to be romantic" "I got a terrier because my daughter wanted him" "I got a terrier because she was pretty" "My northern Inuit dog who goes on one walk or less a day is destructive and loud" Do your research before getting a damn dog and you won't have so many issues.
Where moving houses soon and I've been looking to get a German shepard, so I've done alot of research on everything of that breed including it's personality, and everything else :)
How come every single one of these shows about "wild, uncontrollable, evil" pets is literally just owners being like "*surprised pikachu* what do you mean I have to play with it?"
What?! You mean I have to actually interact with my dog?! Never! Impossible! Dogs must train themselves! There are very rarely problem dogs, it's usually problem owners. Anorexic Rotties (as I nicknamed my dobie) need a LOT of exercise. A LOT.
Because most people assume dogs are completely self sufficient sitting in a house doing nothing all day because people can do that. While not realizing people have tv and computers and iPhones to entertain them dogs have the people and toys and when No one is home to play and he has all this energy what is he supposed to do.
Rohit H What exactly are you trying to prove, that you’re acting like an a-hole troll? Because I don’t think you have to prove anything. And it doesn’t make you at all impressive. Oh, you just wanted attention, of course. Sad. Well, there ya go, hope it makes your day (and if Rohit responds, my point will be validated).
Most owners or breeders crop the ears because they say it helps them hear better and lessens the chances of getting an ear infection. Some are cropped because it’s aesthetically pleasing and dog show require it.
@@here4852 a lot of breeders do it when they’re puppies illegally to drive up the price on Doberman’s. It’s awful. This is why people should research the breeders they’re getting their pups from :/
If she wanted to take “romantic walks” with a dog, why didn’t she just take her Shih Tzu for walks? I own a Shih Tzu and he loves going on walks! Small dogs need exercise too!
Same with my yorkie. He LOVES walks! He doesn’t like leashes really but he understands that he needs it for walks so no problem with that either. Tiny dogs are more amazing than so many people think. Not saying that tiny dogs are better, but they are the same as big dogs, just size difference!
MarjaMariachi I have a frenchie and boxer and they both love walking! Archie the frenchie can keep up with the best of them 😂 Breeders really need to look at who they’re selling their dogs too 🤦🏻♀️
because this is a prime example of people who do before they think.. instead of doing research of oh what kinds of breeds would be suitable.. they just go oh this dog looks awesome let's get it.. they should have done some research before getting any dog.. like yes the little shih tzu was a good fit but those are wayy different when it comes to their needs.. my mum often buys animals impulsively too but in her case it is most always an animal she knows how to care for like a little rat.. (we've always had rats and currently have 5 of them in a big birdcage with tons of hammocks and such) my mother is also someone who would take in an animal that has nowhere else to go.. in this case it's just a case of i know i can care for the animal so go ahead (like our two stink pod turtles. the man that used to own them unfortunately passed away and they needed a new home. so my mother took them in. they are now in a big tank living happily) we also have 4 cats but this was mostly a thought trough decision (we used to have only 2 then my grandfather who got sick a few years after they got the cat so he couldn't handle having the cat around anymore so we took him in then about a year or two ago my grandmother decided to take him back seeing as my grandfather passed away 4 years ago.. however being used to 3 cats around at this point my mother decided she wanted another cat.. so we took in a little girl with knee problems the breeder wanted to breed with her at first till she found out about her problem so she wanted a new forever home for her. and knowing how well loved our cats have been over the years and still are she was happy that she had found a good home for her. however my grandmother recently diagnosed with dementia now couldn't care for her cat anymore so we were happy to take the sweetheart back)
I know a lady with a 14 year old Doberman who’s always been the sweetest thing. Except when she doesn’t get her way she barks and drags her dog beds around the house so you know how angry she is. She’s really friendly with other dogs, likes to go on walks, likes people, and is good on the leash.
“Who can walk with a dog like this?!” Lady, I RUN with my dobermans. This dog was clearly NOT raised correctly. Dobermans are high-energy, highly intelligent dogs who need constant attention. They’re not called velcro dogs for nothing lol. When raising my first Doberman, my mother took our boy on runs while she was training for a half marathon. He stayed by her side the entire time and then as soon as she took him off the leash he would go sprinting away like “yippee I can FINALLY run at my own pace!” They’re not couch potatoes, and when not properly socialized and exercised, they get frustrated-understandably! For everyone interested in getting a dog like a Doberman, German shepherd, or really any dog, please read “The Art of Raising a Puppy” by the Monks of New Skete. I swear, it is the reason my Doberman (the one my family raised) turned out so well. It is an invaluable resource and well worth the read.
@@katerina9159 I haven’t personally had dobermans myself so don’t just rely on this lol, but I have owned pit bulls German shepherds and Rottweilers. I have trained all my dogs myself and they all turned out fine, but you can’t be lax about it. It’s a lot of work and time. If you do choose to go with a trainer I would really recommend doing your research as these kinds of dogs respond really well to certain techniques but the whole dominant thing hasn’t ever worked in my experience. It’s just a challenge to them. Anyway I have no clue about dobermans so like I said don’t rely on my experiences lol
That's exactly what I was thinking 😂 you used to go the gym for a half a day and do what? If you can't run with your dog, I really want to know what you were doing at the gym? 😅 But my goodness, as a doberman owner this makes me so sad
Omega Wolf well euh they do cut off skin of penises so that kinda makes your argument useless I used to prefer dogs with cropped ears I now think it’s better to not crop and I wouldn’t do it on my dogs but if other people want to do it I won’t be angry at them
It makes me so angry that this lady wanted a bigger dog because the walks would be rOmAnTiC. People getting pets on impulse are the worst. Do your research.
and like.. she had her small dog that STILL NEEDS WALKING. she wanted a big dog si she could have a dog to walk, when shes had one all along. little dogs do still need exercise.
I want a dog for companionship and love to learn responsibilities and remember the good times leaving the bad memories to fade with time! Im willing to do whatever it takes to own a dog now all I need is the dog😂
"Demonic Doberman": A huge sensitive sweetheart that just needs exercise and training and is so anxious that he pees on the floor the second his beloved daddy leaves the room.
Yeah shows how scared he really was. He started running out of instinct and then after a split second thought oh no I'm scared I don't know what to do, I'm going back to Daddy.
Me and my doberman are watching this episode together at the moment. He is training to assist me as I am disabled and have PTSD. I got so ill and couldn't do as much as I wanted with his training but he helps me so much every day. He has his good citizen s gold award and hopefully in the future his public access award to. 🤞 They are an incredible breed with so many quirks but they can be stubborn and hard work at times! I wouldn't give mine up for anything. These people didn't have a clue 🤦 training from a young age with these guys is vital
Lucy A, I wanted to treat my Dobies up for the same thing. One was unfortunately born with a terminal, congenital condition that couldn’t have been diagnosed earlier, and she was the one who would have been more suited to being an assistance dog. Her sister ended up being a little more high-spirited and head-strong. She’s still a good dog but she’d probably make a better protection dog. That being said, she still likes to be of assistance and has been known to hand hubby the washing to hang out, help me clear plant-life out of one of our fish ponds and other tasks that she picks up by observation. Love my Dobie :D
I have a service dog Doberman. He helps me function in public due to my autism, and can help with panic attacks and lead me out of a building if needed. Its a shame to see owners who have no idea what they are doing ruin such a great (and potentially amazing) breed. Its also even more sad to learn that after Victoria left, the family did not keep up with their training, and Harvey went right back to being awful. Grounded rules, straightforward commands and repetition is pretty much essential for all working class breeds, especially ones who can be more stubborn and alpha minded. These people had no idea what they were getting into. A Shih Tzu is no where near close to the level of training and leadership a Doberman needs.
I had a spinal injury as a young adult and struggled to stand and walk. Our family dobie, with no training , would walk along side me and help to support me. I'd tell her where we were going and she'd patiently take me the whole way. Such an angel; I was shocked to see a dobie act like this because that's not my experience with the breed at all. Both of ours were shelter rescues, and I don't think they were treated well before they came home with us.
exactly. they weren't bad people that should never own a dog ever as many commenters have said. they just needed some guidance in training. not everyone who owns a dog has had the formal education in dog training to know what to do about behavioral problems. they did the right thing in seeking help
PSA please don’t get a Doberman on a whim without researching and carefully considering if you’re ready for the responsibility. My stepdads son got one for his son as a manly status dog that cost thousands of dollars. Poor dog was given away at 8 months because he was out of control, aka they didn’t pay attention to him or teach him. They just left him in the backyard all day after he wasn’t a cute puppy anymore.
Melissa , me too. Makes me really sad, he was such a sweet dog. They chopped his ears and tail off and didn’t even keep him. Absolutely disgusted by people who hurt their dogs for appearance.
@@xoxopuppies12xoxo What's more bad is that most dogs have already been tortured to look a way. Like pugs who were breed badly so they looked cute when show dogs were becoming a thing a long time ago. Those poor pugs who have pushed in faces, breathing problems, and curly tails.
My neighbors do the same with their Rottweiler. It makes me so sad because he could be such a good dog, but he’s really aggressive with other dogs now. I have 3 dogs so I’m really scared he’s gonna get through the fence. He’s really sweet with people though, I like to give him hotdogs and dog treats sometimes lol
There's nothing "demonic" about Harvey, the poor dog just had the misfortune to land in a family who didn't think about the consequences of getting a big dog, much less a Doberman. Props to them for finally putting in the necessary work though.
She’s both really. I think she doesn’t interact with the dogs as much as the people is because she can’t always be there to train their dogs. All she can do is teach the owners her methods and make it easier for THEM to train THEIR dog. I think that’s a great approach to be honest.
That's what all dog trainers really are. If you don't train the people the dogs will just revert. And positive training is the BEST training. Even if you punish your dog with harsh methods they will still revert if you don't continue the training without a trainer. And they won't trust you on top of it.
Her: I want a big dog to do romantic walks on Sunday. Him: let's get a Doberman. This video should NOT be called " the demonic doberman " but "the idiots owners"
When I was a kid, one of our neighbors had a Doberman. He was actually a sweetheart. From what I hear, they love to stay close to their people, and often tend to end up lap dogs.
nice to see a doberman without cropped ears! also props to the neighbor who was willing to bring their dog to help this doberman despite its aggression and the rain!
@@kellisuzuki8889 Well, tbh dober ear cropping and pitbull ear cropping are two different things. Cropping a pit's ears is actually harmful because they're cropping 80% of the ear, whereas with dobermans it's only say 10%, just enough to keep the ear standing rather than flopping over. It honestly isn't as bad as a lot of people say it is for dobermans. It doesn't affect their hearing at all and although it's purely a treatment for looks it could possibly help reduce chances of ear infections somewhat, as floppy ears tend to breed more bacteria naturally.
@@ottopotatum5775 I will admit that is definitely a reason. But working dogs also had their ears cropped in case of a wild animal attack, or a random dog attack. The cropped ears give another animal less of an opportunity to find a vulnerable spot and tear into it, sort of like not having a long ponytail on a woman.
If you have a dobermann, don't ever think it's not listening to every word. If it could talk it'd be there later, pointing out every thing you ever said and did: you to your partner "you never told me about..." your dobermann "actually Dave, on the 17th of October, at 19:32, as the horlicks ad was ending, s/he said..."
She bought that dog because she wanted romantic walks. So she got him as an object expected to do as they say. That is not how it works, you should expect changes, you should expect hard work. And you should ALWAYS see if your new family member gets along well with your current dog. That is just cruel.
I have a new bull mastiff puppy as my EBT died of old age a couple of years back. Manners is totally the right description 😆 I'd forgotten about the basic manners you need to teach your pup, from jumping up to socialising with other dogs and humans. Totally worth the effort and dogs are eager to please. But yes, good manners from a dog are a must. 👍
My family fostered dobermans for a long time. They truly are dogs that if you give an inch will take a mile. That said they are so loving! I'm glad that he is getting the training he needs!
My mom had a Dobie named Harvey, he was a already part of the family when I was born. He also had uncropped ears but he was red. She got him from friends after he ate their brand new leather couch lol. I remember him to be an amazing dog, he was a great friend to me during my childhood ♡
That didn’t seem like the perfect reason just because Doberman’s are highly energetic by the way German Shorthaired Pointer would be much more suitable for her
Wow what a great pup Harvey turned out to be! He has a good recall, plays fetch, listens to commands, is calm, and (hopefully) gets along with other dogs now. What a 180 from his previous self. Shows what a little training and a lot of patience can do for you and your dog!
Growing up I had two dobermans, male and female, in a 2 bedroom, Size of an apartment house. And both of them were very good dogs, the female was playful and loved to go outside, and the male was a gentle and protective teddy bear. Both were amazing dogs to have around and I plan to get a doberman once I can get my own place with a yard.
Yeah and she acted so pathetic about it all. She was like ohhh I can't do this much longer and shows her slightly red hands - you get the same thing from carrying shopping bags, get over it.
@@chilli-iceolive-abode2447 I actually believe this hurts and that her arms are probably burning from the strain. What I don't get is why she hasn't gotten herself some gloves, an anti-pull harness and nice trainers or at least flat shoes? Training a Dobermann has to start at the very beginning when he first comes in to your house. These dogs are incredibly intelligent and they’re going to use that to their advantage
Yup. There are very few breeds more easily trained than a dobermann, and they're also easy to train badly. Mine learned the toilet command the same night he came home at 7 weeks old. It took my mother longer than that and for weeks she kept saying "does he need the toilet?" "he'll need to go to the toilet in a minute" "when did he last go to the toilet?", so for weeks, every time she said it he just instantly peed. On the carpet, the sofa, me, her, the other dog. So of course my mum would start yelling "no!" and I was telling her not to use either word 😂 I still miss him
It always absolutely bewilderes me that these people don’t wear proper shoes when going on walks So thanks for the likes my dudes, but the comments have gotten out of hand, If you want entertainment I recommend reading them XD
Danielle Dewitt I would imagine walking dogs with sneakers or tennis shoes would make walking a bit easier than with heels or flats. You need good grip on the ground with your heel weighing perfectly on the ground.
@@amurderofdrunkcrows2587 our lab is decent if someone is at the door. She has quite a deep bark so people think she's a rottie or another big dog.. She'll probably also hump any intruder to death. This poor woman cannot spend half the day at the gym and then go do some shopping?! My god! What third world type of hell hole is this non employed woman dealing with?
Literally my exact thought when she said that. Like, oh, you poor little lamb. She has no business owning a big working dog. She has the emotional intelligence of a fruit fly and I have no idea what that guy sees in her. I grew up with Dobermans and GSDs, and people always laughed when they saw a little girl walking big, "dangerous" dogs. It's literally not hard.

Omg maybe ok this is just a theory but maybe they made the dog do all you the cutscenes to make it all dramatic but in the actual videos he really did have a little problem
Pawel Kumorek nope, Harvey is a working dog, which makes him want to run and control, dobermans are dogs who usually work on farms, and it’s his instinct to run and to lead. And, no, it’s not always the owners, I have owned countless dogs and used my Rottweiler as the example because, even if he was trained, and had great instinct, he was always aggressive, and there to finish business, we had to put him down as he’d bitten over 100 of our guests, and another example, German shepherds are working breeds, and their instinct is to run and attack, but people will eg on that behaviour, by dog fighting, do your research before you comment please.
Mostly yeah. Though that's to be expected from a show called It's Me or the Dog. 😂 There was one episode though where the lady's dogs had PTSD from being kidnapped and it wasn't the owners at all. They were really nice people, honestly. 😊
@@vintage.chestnut3669 It’s the owner’s fault for getting a working dog without doing their research on the breed. They should’ve gotten a lower energy dog that fit their lifestyle better. They can’t provide a Doberman with what it needs, and that’s on them.
I disagree slightly but agree for the most part. Some breeds are far more predictable than others for a myriad of reasons. Rescue dogs have a propensity to be more obedient. I have had large dogs being Dobermans, Rottweilers and Boxers - all rescue dogs. Very calm, loving and protective without people feeling threatened. Purchased a Staffy from a Breeder at 10 weeks, had her vaccinations completed as quickly as possible and then had her complete socialisation and training. I still have her, she is seven now, but she has been by far the most unpredictable dog I have owned. I will never take chances with her. She is incredibly well behaved for the most part and loves humans but smaller dogs sporadically have been an issue. As a result she cannot be off leash on walks as she cannot be trusted not to harm other peoples' pets. I wish I could decipher how she reacts to certain dogs why she does but her behaviour puzzles me in that she seems to target some poodles and not others. Can't risk it. It makes me feel sad for her but I don't want her to put another dog's life at risk.
Dobermans are not a dog for a begginers or inexperienced owner. Very clever dogs that need and enjoys a consistent training with discipline and praise, strict but fair. Its a working dog and needs to work. The doberman will be your best friend if you do this. I walk a adult male doberman, he's very well trained and a pleasure to walk and play with, if he doesn't like you he plays games and trolls you. Previous dog walker who was worried about him found this out.
You said it...I have owned several Dobermans and trained some for people (and other breeds) and that is one thing about the dog. They are not a good dog for beginners unless they start with a puppy and are willing to get the help of a trainer. Also, they are smarter than some of the dumber humans I know. They will mess with the head of those that they know do not have their best interest at heart or that fear them (or that they just do not like). Even my wife has problems at time giving commands and I have to remind her to never command with a question mark (like...heel? or sit? ). Then she remembers and will be more confident and he listens just fine because my current Doberman loves my wife to death. They need consistent, firm training, rewards and above all appreciation (and no doubt who is in charge). If my male Doberman Banzai thinks he can get over on you...he will. I consider him a great judge of character. One other thing, Dobermans have a habit of bonding with one member of the family (like velcro) and its up to the family to make sure he bonds with everyone.
@@stuarth4296 you might understand this, the doberman I walk picked me, were friends, he knows I will take him on a walk and play and then home for a back scratch and belly rub, the dog will sit on my foot and stick to me like glue when we're together, the owner jokes that I'm his best friend and he likes exploring places with me, I take him out all day when I can, he's very well behaved, follows commands and no stress, he's 8 so he's chilled out a bit? I'm not a expert but I get on well with dogs and good owners teach me stuff.
You are absolutely right! We've always had dogs in my family, but never a Dobermann. When I moved out of my parent's house and got my first dog and I got a Dobermann. I thought I knew what I was doing, but he proved me wrong. Every day is a learning day with him. He's now 12 years old ❤
Doberman was one of my first dogs and I have been doing pretty fine so far, he’s the best, well behaved dog I’ve ever owned. I would just say don’t get one if you know nothing about dogs, if you’ve researched them you’re probably ok
It never fails to amaze me how women walk large active dogs while wearing heels, sandals, fashionable boots or flats with no traction whatsoever. I mean really.
I remember on one of the videos she said she's been doing this for 10+ years so obv she's not only brave, she just knows what to do. it's the best way to deal with mad dogs, if you panic/scream/run or do anything unexpected to these dogs they get more mad because they thought you did it as a threat to them so they attack worse, you should stay calm
The training has helped Harvey to behave well. I believe the dog just lacked socialization, but with continuous training, he would overcome his fear and anxiety. Indeed Victoria is an amazing trainer. Thank you for sharing!
Pimmy11 yup I have a chest harness for my GSD/Dobie/Rott and the lead is from the front of her chest. Safer for her neck. Thing is.... these dogs are like security guards and their instinct is to get in front of you to make sure you’re safe. A long lead goes a long way... and the clicking noise from my retractable leash inadvertently clicker-trained my dog, so I can easily “reel her in.”
I have a large red pit bull and I have walked her in heels, flip flops, house slippers, and of course my sneakers. I spent a lot of time teaching her to behave on her leash. She does not pull or lunge, she paces beside me, I can even drop her leash and she’ll stay there until I pick it up again. If you put in the time you will be able to do this with any dog.
Victoria is awesome. We love you here in India. Unfortunately, majority of people here don't even think about social life of animals. It will take take time but I am sure people will start realizing with the kind of awareness you and your great team is spreading through internet.
these should have been 40 minute episodes. there is a lot of ground that could be explored and a lot of advice to give. Its basically the same kinda stuff every episode but with a longer one, you could give a lot more info on breed, more context to the problems, better analysis and what to look for, ethical concerns about certain assumptions or common mistakes or training techniques. The list goes on. I guess I just want TV to be a bit more substantive but for a light entertainment show from the 00s, its fine haha Still enjoy it :)
Jane got on my nerves she did no research on the breed and just assumed she'd be able to swan off and leave the dog and all would be fine. Dogs need consistentcy and perseverence with training and boundaries and the second you stop doing that the problems begin.
Lucifer666 not only that her reason made no sense She wanted to get a new bigger dog to take on walks and romantic Even though she already has a dog (thats smaller)
couple's like this give me plenty of work in australia as a trainer because they buy a dog based on looks and not what suits them and their living needs, they love them during the puppy stages and don't train them until BAM they enter the teenage years and start pushing their boundaries
... and then many of them end up in the shelters with the label "aggressive" or "unadoptable". There really should be a licensing procedure for potential pet owners (not only dogs, all pets), similar to how you need to get a driver's license before being allowed on a public road. Come to think of it, a Reproduction License would be good, too.
I don't understand people. Training my dobermann puppy was simply the best feeling in the world. And even when he was an old boy I loved our daily training time. We did tricks and games and puzzles, and then we'd cuddle on the sofa, both of us having enjoyed every minute of it. How do people not enjoy that?
@@phillipaengels2709 Absolutely agree, Training is extremely rewarding and fun. Especially when you start seeing the results and the gleam in their eye when they trying to impress you.
Although Doberman is my favorite dog breed and I really want one, I have done enough research to realize that a Doberman would not be happy with my current lifestyle or experience :') And I still don't know why other (adults) people don't the same??? 😂 🤔
There will be time in your life to have a perfect Dobie. When you retire, you need to get one when you are home, have nothing to do and for companionship. They make the very best dogs but do need to constantly have training and to do different things with you to keep their minds from getting bored.
I miss my Doberman so much. She passed away from a common problem that purebred Dobermans get called DCM (dilated cardiomyopathy). Enlarged heart, heart congestion. These dogs are SO easy to train and are the most loyal breed, I swear they are angels on Earth ! She was only 6 when she died.
YAY! Well done, family! When I saw Harvey off leash to chase a ball...JOY! The mum and dad should be very proud of themselves. I hope these stories help encourage others to be responsible from the start.
"We wanted a dog we could take on romantic walks, a big dog." So, you got a fighting military working dog meant to attack enemies in the military and also meant to be a guard dog? A bulldog, a german shepard, a husky, a boxer, even a mastiff would have worked, but you chose a doberman. Bruh.
Teenage boxers or mastiffs would be a mess in this household. They're no less of a working dog, though the work was a little different. they can be rather heavy (my boxer had ca. 50 kg in his prime , my dogo canario mix now is lighter than him) and compared to some other breeds (in my experience) they need a bit longer to 'get' things in training . They are a dream to be with when trained, but they can be a f*ing tank if they aren't. They do have a more independent streak and if not properly tained run all over you, they can be rather "unfriendly" towards everyone (dogs, people, children, cats, chickens) coming your way and you most definitely do not want a boxer or any of the bully breed to grow protective. For a family it is probably good that they are a little less bound to one person more to their home/family, but if you've got "luck" and get one with stronger working drive they most definitely need to be handled by someone who knows what they're doing. With boxers you could get a couch potato, but you can also get a highly energetic, protective dog that gets destructive if not exercised correctly. It depends on the breeder of course but even dogs from the same line can vary in "bulldozerness" and working drive. If she wanted a bigger dog that's a people pleaser and relatively easy to train, maybe a big poodle might be a good choice. While of course they also come from a working dog background , poodles have been bred as pure companion dogs for such a long time and do really well as companion dogs. If you cut the hair short they also looks similar sleek, which is probably something she liked about the Dobermann. However of course the smartness and energy of a poodle comes with the "downside" that you need to keep them busy.
13:00 - I have a golden Retriver (love of my life) which is very tormented when I leave. I learnt him “I’ll come back soon” and it seems like he knows now that mama will never leave him forever ❤️
I have 7 dogs. 6 Yorkshire terriers. 1 doberman. Yorkies bully the dobies. My boy is getting better when we see other dogs. When out with my husband, he is good as gold. With me he is on guard duty. Watching everyone, and more aware of the other dogs. He is my boy, love him to bits. Good job I’m strong with him.
That goes for any pet. Not just dogs, people are surprised at how energetic and destructive some car breeds are. A lot of boa snakes also get abandoned or released because people don't research how big they get. I love all 4 of my boas, they may be nearly twice my size but I'd trust them sleeping in my bed over any human man 😂

I'm acctually confused, they said they got him because they wanted a dog to walk, but that little dog is perfectly walkable. they could walk their small dog, who would probobly benefit from walks, and learn to enjoy them.

What works for me for any animal really, is to expect very less, work hard, then be surprised and so impatience is very rare... works fine

@@MauriatOttolink If I had bought a dog instead of a bitch, I myself would have become the pack leader. I've had dogs as well.

I don't get why she had a problem in the first place. Initially she said she used to spend half the day in the gym. So surely now she can just workout with her physical dog for the half the day instead. It's not like she has to work or anything. 🤷♂️

So true, plus all these episodes I've seen so far comes down to the owners not exercising (working) them.
What?! You mean I have to actually interact with my dog?! Never! Impossible! Dogs must train themselves! There are very rarely problem dogs, it's usually problem owners. Anorexic Rotties (as I nicknamed my dobie) need a LOT of exercise. A LOT.
How come every single video of IMOTD has a ‘surprised pikachu ‘ comment?
True
Because most people assume dogs are completely self sufficient sitting in a house doing nothing all day because people can do that. While not realizing people have tv and computers and iPhones to entertain them dogs have the people and toys and when No one is home to play and he has all this energy what is he supposed to do.

On the positive side; I've never seen a Doberman with floppy ears in real life, it's nice to see it here.
Most owners or breeders crop the ears because they say it helps them hear better and lessens the chances of getting an ear infection. Some are cropped because it’s aesthetically pleasing and dog show require it.
i'm partial to the floppy ears they have so i was glad to see it. they're cuter that way. the cropped ears are for working dobermans

why get a working dog like a Doberman if you just want to take it for walks? There's plenty of toy and non sporting dogs that can fill that role
because people look at the dog and think oh he looks nice i want this one
because this is a prime example of people who do before they think.. instead of doing research of oh what kinds of breeds would be suitable.. they just go oh this dog looks awesome let's get it.. they should have done some research before getting any dog.. like yes the little shih tzu was a good fit but those are wayy different when it comes to their needs.. my mum often buys animals impulsively too but in her case it is most always an animal she knows how to care for like a little rat.. (we've always had rats and currently have 5 of them in a big birdcage with tons of hammocks and such) my mother is also someone who would take in an animal that has nowhere else to go.. in this case it's just a case of i know i can care for the animal so go ahead (like our two stink pod turtles. the man that used to own them unfortunately passed away and they needed a new home. so my mother took them in. they are now in a big tank living happily) we also have 4 cats but this was mostly a thought trough decision (we used to have only 2 then my grandfather who got sick a few years after they got the cat so he couldn't handle having the cat around anymore so we took him in then about a year or two ago my grandmother decided to take him back seeing as my grandfather passed away 4 years ago.. however being used to 3 cats around at this point my mother decided she wanted another cat.. so we took in a little girl with knee problems the breeder wanted to breed with her at first till she found out about her problem so she wanted a new forever home for her. and knowing how well loved our cats have been over the years and still are she was happy that she had found a good home for her. however my grandmother recently diagnosed with dementia now couldn't care for her cat anymore so we were happy to take the sweetheart back)
Because their rich and she felt like spending her husbands money because lets face it thats all she does
Or get an older dog, not a puppy.

What’s really fascinating to realise is that she is not a dog trainer. She is a human trainer. she has very minimal contacts with the dogs directly.
She’s both really.
I think she doesn’t interact with the dogs as much as the people is because she can’t always be there to train their dogs.
All she can do is teach the owners her methods and make it easier for THEM to train THEIR dog.
I think that’s a great approach to be honest.
@@Delilah_Anne I agree as well!
I think she has to or the dogs will love her too much. Its like "finally a human that gets me!"
That's what all dog trainers really are. If you don't train the people the dogs will just revert. And positive training is the BEST training. Ear cropping is illegal in England :)
@@DeepRedBlue sweet, weird it isn't illegal in the US..
@@fructosecornsyrup5759 its only to make them look scary. Nothing more
@@ottopotatum5775 I will admit that is definitely a reason. But working dogs also had their ears cropped in case of a wild animal attack, or a random dog attack. What is wrong with Jane walking a doberman in heels is madness wear trainers for god sake! 🙄

So of course my mum would start yelling "no!" and I was telling her not to use either word 😂 I still miss him
It always absolutely bewilderes me that these people don’t wear proper shoes when going on walks
So thanks for the likes my dudes, but the comments have gotten out of hand, If you want entertainment I recommend reading them XD
Ester Shelby What’s your idea of proper shoes.
Danielle Dewitt I would imagine walking dogs with sneakers or tennis shoes would make walking a bit easier than with heels or flats. You need good grip on the ground with your heel weighing perfectly on the ground.

My mom was protected by her Doberman as a child when her house was being robbed. The guy ran away. Dobermans can be great dogs.

Could i Just point out something? IT IS NEVER THE DOGS FAULT IT IS THE OWNERS THAT MAKE IT LIKE THIS
Pawel Kumorek nope, Harvey is a working dog, which makes him want to run and control, dobermans are dogs who usually work on farms, and it’s his instinct to run and to lead.
There was one episode though where the lady's dogs had PTSD from being kidnapped and it wasn't the owners at all.
Like, 98% of the time it IS the owners fault but sometimes, very rarely it can be something with the dog.
But they Looks so cute!
I’m amazed how fast dogs can learn, even when grown up.
yeah when people say they are too old to learn. you learn as you live.
It never fails to amaze me how women walk large active dogs while wearing heels, sandals, fashionable boots or flats with no traction whatsoever. I mean really.
Yeah, I don't get it either (and I am a girl).
I'd literally 100% break my ankle
If you train your dog well it shouldn't be too hard
Our lab is quite large, as a pup she used to pull but we did the training to make her walk properly on a leash.
And skirts/ dresses instead of pants/ trousers

What a man
I remember on one of the videos she said she's been doing this for 10+ years so obv she's not only brave, she just knows what to do.
it's the best way to deal with mad dogs, if you panic/scream/run or do anything unexpected to these dogs they get more mad because they thought you did it as a threat to them so they attack worse, you should stay calm
Frappelychee I would marry her even though I'm only 35. I would be proud to walk around with that cougar

The training has helped Harvey to behave well. I believe the dog just lacked socialization, but with continuous training, he would overcome his fear and anxiety. Indeed Victoria is an amazing trainer. Thank you for sharing!
Stop trying to walk a working breed, large framed dog in sling back pumps would be my first recommendation.
My thoughts exactly. Wear sensible footwear to walk a large untrained dog
@@m8trxd Be very careful with that retractable leash. Those things snap really easily.
Lc05 retractable leash is more for other people’s comfort. She doesn’t really need to be on one.

these should have been 40 minute episodes. there is a lot of ground that could be explored and a lot of advice to give. Its basically the same kinda stuff every episode but with a longer one, you could give a lot more info on breed, more context to the problems, better analysis and what to look for, ethical concerns about certain assumptions or common mistakes or training techniques. The list goes on.
I guess I just want TV to be a bit more substantive but for a light entertainment show from the 00s, its fine haha Still enjoy it :)

couple's like this give me plenty of work in australia as a trainer because they buy a dog based on looks and not what suits them and their living needs, they love them during the puppy stages and don't train them until BAM they enter the teenage years and start pushing their boundaries
... and then many of them end up in the shelters with the label "aggressive" or "unadoptable". There really should be a licensing procedure for potential pet owners (not only dogs, all pets), similar to how you need to get a driver's license before being allowed on a public road.
Come to think of it, a Reproduction License would be good, too.
Yup, my whole career as a trainer is dealing with people who have gotten in over thier heads with dogs they cant handle.

Jane: "I got a dog as a life accessory and a fulfillment of my romantic notions of life. How could it have gone wrong?"
"We wanted a dog we could take on romantic walks, a big dog."
So, you got a fighting military working dog meant to attack enemies in the military and also meant to be a guard dog?
A bulldog, a german shepard, a husky, a boxer, even a mastiff would have worked, but you chose a doberman.
Bruh.
Shepherds and Huskys are also working breeds, shepherds are also used for guarding... Still most dogs are jobless and simple family pets
They should have gotten a Lab. (Jan Griffiths).
They should have just taken that poor Shih Tzu out for walks. Seriously, small dogs need walks as well, why get a new dog, let alone a working breed?
They could've bought a golden retriever

They should be walking Lady every single day. Why does Harvey get walks and not their good girl?
Yes she does. Just because she is a smaller dog, dosen't mean she dosen't need exercise. They should walk them together.
Might just be that because Lady isn’t the problem they didn’t show when they walk her :)

This proves why you should research a breed before you buy and NEVER get a dog on impulse...
AND adopting from a shelter is almost ALWAYS the best option... With only a few exceptions, like allergies, etc.
