Sm Entertainment is South Korea's leading music agency. Sm Entertainment has produced several generations of vocalists. In this article, we'll introduce each generation of Sm's vocalists.
The first generation: BoA (Solo Female Singer)
BoA is the first solo singer of Sm Entertainment. BoA made her debut in 2000 and became a global star beyond Asia. BoA's music is powerful and diverse, and she has become a fan favorite for her outstanding vocals and performances. BoA is the originator of SM Entertainment's vocal line and is still recognized as one of the best vocalists.
Second Generation: Taeyeon (Girl's Generation)
Taeyeon is the leader and main vocalist of SM Entertainment's flagship girl group, Girls' Generation. Taeyeon debuted in 2007 and led the K-POP craze with Girls' Generation. With her sweet voice and rich emotional expression, Taeyeon can handle a variety of genres of music, and she has also achieved great success as a solo artist. Taeyeon is considered to be the strongest vocalist in SM Entertainment's vocal lineup.
3rd Generation: Wendy (Red Velvet)
Wendy is the main vocalist of SM Entertainment's flagship girl group Red Velvet. Wendy debuted in 2014 and introduced a new concept and music in K-POP with Red Velvet. Wendy's powerful and clear voice is perfect for a variety of genres of music, and she also performs as a solo artist. Wendy is arguably the most versatile vocalist in SM Entertainment's vocal lineup.
4th Generation: Ning Ning (Aespa)
Ning Ning is the main vocalist of SM Entertainment's newest girl group, AESPA. Ning Ning debuted in 2020 and ushered in a new era of K-Pop with ESP. Originally from China, Ning Ning is bilingual in Korean and Chinese, and has garnered a lot of attention for her powerful and unique voice. Ning Ning is the freshest and most challenging vocalist in SM Entertainment's vocal lineup.
So there you have it, the generations of SM Entertainment's vocalists. Sm Entertainment has produced some of the best vocalists over the generations, and we can look forward to new vocal lines in the future.
It would have been perfect if we had included Taeyeon, the second generation, who is considered to be the strongest vocalist.

Many consider Taeyeon & Wendy to be comparable now, in terms of skill. Taeng's belt and Wendy's mix are their signature features.
For general info, let me just add the SM OGs Bada of SES (early 1st gen) and Lina of CSJH (early 2nd gen). But the best singer out of SM in recent years was Luna, the main vocalist of f(x) (mid 2nd gen). She came from a family of classical singers.
Sadly, Bada & Luna parted ways with SM. Lina is now a full-fledged musical actress.

Wendy (my bias) is arguably the best singer in Kpop right now, and top 3 all time in all of kpop imo. She had a vocal cord nodule when she made her debut that kinda hinder her potential, but when it got fixed, it released her optimal talent. Her power and tone is uncanny. Having a collaboration song with international star John Legend and music legend Ricky Martin is hella impressive. Not just in the kpop scene, she's also a singer in theater and musicals and has been invited to perform worldwide coz of her pure singing talent. Irene is the face of Red Velvet, but the voice, heart, and soul of RV really is Wendy.
BoA, at the young age of 14 (in 2000) has single handedly introduced Kpop internationally and paved the way for all the kpop singers, groups, and artists. At age 15, she already had a Japanese album and by 16 her album was already triple platinum. So many great Kpop singers over the years have her as their role model and sang her songs in their auditions. Definitely a legend, icon in all of Kpop.

@@CoachCastTV Yep. To add: By age 20 she is already a kpop legend and has travelled the world. She mentioned she thought of retiring at that age coz despite all the money and fame, she felt like she never experienced childhood and that she grew up way too fast. She took some hiatus for a few years and enjoyed life, then decided to make several comebacks, reinventing herself each time. To this day, she's still active in the kpop scene, and she is still only 37.

BoA is 1st gen and Queen of Kpop. She’s the reason why Korea decided to go international with marketing Kpop. BoA is the standard that every single Kpop company bases their training model off of due to her success. She also literally saved both her company and South Korea from financial collapse due to facilitating trade between South Korea and Japan (says prime ministers of both countries and the founder of SM himself).

BoA was even commemorated in South Korea’s National Museum. She’s highly respected by Kpop idols and literally the only person with the accolades to be the Queen of Kpop. I really love BoA's voice, she is also an amazing dancer too, and has a great command of the stage. She got me into kpop and is and will always be my favorite kpop idol I enjoy listening to both her Japanese and Korean songs all of the time since it was recently Christmas I have been listening to her Christmas song MeriKuri! Lol I am not meaning to ask for you to react to all of these just showing that she has many iconic songs that I can easily remember and these are just some of the one's with music videos she has such an extensive career while also not even being old she just started out very young if I can remember correctly I think she was first scouted when she was just 11 years old while she was accompanying her 2nd brother Soon-wook(sadly he passed away a few years ago of cancer😢) to an audition and ended up debuting when she was only 13. Many kpop idols look up to her so I am super glad you two were able to get introduced to her. SM Entertainment is definitely the company I check out when I want to hear great vocals!

SM ia known as the vocal company … these 3 are amazing vocalist… Boa (it is pronounced direct not letter by letter) is from 1st generation, Wendy from 3rd and Ningning from 4th. Boa is a solo artist who debuted at the age of 13 and has been active since then and Ningning and Wendy are the main vocalist of their groups … would you watch a collaboration of many groups you should react to “step back and stamp on it” which is a collaboration of SM girls from groups of different generations (taeyeon and heyoyon from girls genaration, Wendy and seugi from red velvet, Karina and winter from aespa and boa who is solo… you are certainly gonna be impressed

As for Wendy, there isn't a note she can't hit. She is a super talented vocalist and a huge dork and mood maker in Red Velvet.
Coach already knows about 2ning but I was really impressed with her lower register in this song.
If you want a collaboration then listen to GOT: The Beat. The group consists of BoA, Taeyeon and Hyoyeon of Girls Generation, Seulgi and Wendy of Red Velvet, and Karina and Winter of aespa. Truly a super group.

I remember when BoA released her first Japanese album, Listen to My Heart. It was a fantastic album, packed full of songs (14 tracks according to google). Now that's a full length album, lol. Not to take away from current music but a lot of kpop albums are pretty sparse. But back to BoA... I saw her performing on Japanese shows and she was very talented. Her singing and dancing were impressive for someone so young and her command of conversational Japanese was also really good. It's hard to believe that she is 37 and debuted 23 years ago. Time flies.

I came across w/ Bo-A about 15 yrs ago. She debuted in Japan over 15 yrs. ago & can speak Japanese like a native. NingNing was a champion in Chinese singing contest, & Wendy was scouted from Canada or she is a Korean Canadian. No doubt you will have received recommendations for SM's collaboration group Girls On Top which consists of members from Aespa (Katrina & Winter), Red Velvet (Seulgi & Wendy), Girls Generation (Taeyeon & Hyoyeon) and lastly BoA. It is an interesting mix of SM generations just like this - (although musically different to Time After Time) - If Taeyeon, Hyoyeaon, BoA and Seulgi ever make your list as soloists to react to I will be a very happy man.

can you react to HYO with the song DEEP Deep (휩) is HYO's first mini album. It was released on May 16, 2022, with "Deep" as the title track. Deep" is described as an EDM dance song. In the song you will hear a combination of dynamic bass line, sharp clap and electronic sound. The chorus is said to be impressive and captivating because it uses the prefix "whip"

Aespa thought they had already killed the Black Mamba in the Savage video, but in fact they didn't. As seen in the Savage video (at 3:43), they were shown trying to kill Black Mamba by shooting her in the eye, but instead of killing her, she transformed into a different form of villainess, namely a spider like Hyo in Deep. The Hyo - Deep video also showed Black Mamba transforming into her other form, a spider. Pay attention to the lyrics: “New sensations awaken me, bring me back to life.” By this she means that she is given another chance to become a villain, which she herself cannot believe if she continues to hide her fangs.

In the Deep MV, Hyoyeon tells someone to go deeper into her. And, if you remember, the intro to Illusion from Aespa offers something to absorb. It actually makes sense to be considering Illusion is the point of view of Hyoyeon (the spider), the new form of Black Mamba. Note the ending of the Savage MV: a sticky substance envelops the girls, and Hyoyeon in Deep is dragging a body wrapped in cobwebs, indicating that she managed to convince Aespa that she is not the Black Mamba in Illusion.

SM Entertainment, their company, is said to be a terrible company to be under as far as overworking their artists and not fair profit margins. BUT the one thing SM does right is attract incredible singers and mix and match them in collaborations.

@@CoachCastTV Good decision, coach. BoA started it all and paved the way. Girls' Generation took it to new heights and changed the whole landscape for Korean pop music. They're the ones who took it to international mainstream media while spreading the Korean culture, and open the gates for the K-wave which is monumental in 2009 - early 2010's (along with Psy and Gangnam Style). They set the bar and all the other kpop groups that followed have them as their "bible" or blueprint on how to be a successful group.
Girls' Generation hands down is the GOAT. The Michael Jordan of kpop groups. Fun fact: their main vocalist, Taeyeon has BoA as her childhood hero. She listened to her songs growing up sang her songs in her auditions. Then Girls' Generation groomed and became the "big sisters" of Red Velvet. To this day, Wendy still mentions she had always looked up to Taeyeon and Girls' Generation will always be the standard in all girl groups and what her group aspired to be. I recommend their song "Into the New World".
Unfortunately, wifi and social media aren't present during that era, that's why they don't have the "million views", "followers', "spotify plays" etc. but what they've done is irreplaceable. Groups like BTS and Blackpink are the groups that capitalized on the era of wifi and social media that's why they're way more recognized a decade later. No offense to them though. They deserve it as those groups are also talented.

Actually I wanted to bring two things to your attention. Firstly, YG released a video addressing Babymonster stuff and announced they have a new song due 1st Feb unlike anything YG has released before (should be interesting). Secondly, there is a legendary group that used to be the queens of summer bops called SISTAR. They were a 4 member group and had a sub unit called Sistar19 which released a song 'Ma Boy' (2011) - it's been 11 years since we last saw the sub unit and they are reuniting for a new song called 'No More (Ma Boy)' - just thought if you were in the mood to go off track with something that will be gaining some attention. The dance from Ma Boy is iconic ...just sayin'
