It's the way Wendy has mastered her voice and I can't wait to see ShiNing's voice mature and grow. Not that it's not fire now. Then you have BoA's sultry voice. The reason SM vocals will always be at the top is cause they know how to nurture their talent where as other companies change the way their vocalists sing.
Time After Time = Ballad of 2022.... I'm not a vocal fanatic by any means but this song is simply amazing from start to finish. I absolutely love it. Since BoA is on the board of SM and guides quite a few of the productions one could easily thank her for the vision she's had in orchestrating many of the vocal collabs over the decade.
This is why SM are the powerhouse of vocal.... sure they do lypsinc sometimes... it's to preserve their vocal cords so why not... but when they sing it live... magical things happens...

The 3 combined reproduced the Red Velvet Quality: Wendy deep round tone + BoA's raspy/warm tone (equivalent to Irene's/Seulgi tone) + Ningning middle air bright tone (equivalent to Joy / Yeri). That's why they sound so good together.
Notice in the first two verses, in the beginning of the song they gave the low notes on Ning, she excels so much and her tone is so good and techniques on lower registers. She reminds me of Taeyeon. Wendy and Boa is good but their lows are not as good as Ning and Taeyeon. They excel on highnotes but heck even Ningning can do those highnotes, Taeyeon too. I am just saying Ningning will be a beast of a singer when she grows up, she is still young her voice will mature more and her range just keeps on increading and the fact her low registers are already perfection. SM and aespa is lucky to have her, now I know why SM did not let go of her and the sole survivor of SMrookies. From day 1, SM knew she will be a part of the new group
Ningning being a beast of a singer is still yet to be proven while Wendy and especially BoA already have years to prove their worth, in 4th gen a lot of groups have a power vocalist you need to hope and pray NingNing will stay in the game and won't be buried by better vocalists so you could actually see for yourself if she'll really be at the top and a beast of a singer at the end just like what BoA and Wendy is in their generation.
