  • Prejudices and misconceptions about Islam are common in the West, particularly since 9/11. For many non-Muslims, this religion often feels standoffish and closed to outsiders. This perception has led to the commonly held belief that non-Muslims are not allowed inside of mosques. Watch this short video to learn a bit more about whether Muslims really do exclude non-Muslims from their houses of worship and what may be behind such exclusivity, if it does exist.

In my World Religions class in high school, I was still a Catholic at the time, but we went on a field trip to all these different places of worship throughout my city: a Hindu temple, a synagogue, a mosque, and an Eastern orthodox church. I liked the feel of the mosque: very open and bright, with very little in the way of decoration, and you had to take your shoes off. Stark contrast to the Eastern Orthodox church, with pictures of angels and saints everywhere.

Interesting, as how would you know if you want to convert without going to services? I do agree visitors should be respectful of the place of worship.

Can't you just lie and say you're a muslim so that you can enter the dome of the rock? How would they even confirm that?

They would check your passport to see your date of birth, where you were born and whether you are a muslim
