I can see in the comments people anxious about the large number of people.. masjid al haram is a sanctuary. As a Muslim I know as soon as I've entered into the haram I need to be extra careful not to do any wrong even pushing someone out the way. We all remind each other of patience. So Hence millions of people can gather knowing it's a sanctuary. The one place in the world where rich poor all skin colours and ethnicities are wearing the same clothes. Theres no way to tell who's a millionaire and who's poor. The black person stands next to the white one shoulder to shoulder humbled before their Lord.

And [mention] when We made the House [i.e., the Kaʿbah] a place of return for the people and [a place of] security. And take, [O believers], from the standing place of Abraham a place of prayer. And We charged Abraham and Ishmael, [saying], "Purify My House for those who perform ṭawāf and those who are staying [there] for worship and those who bow and prostrate [in prayer]." [2:125]
And [mention] when Abraham said, "My Lord, make this a secure city and provide its people with fruits - whoever of them believes in Allah and the Last Day." [Allah] said, "And whoever disbelieves - I will grant him enjoyment for a little; then I will force him to the punishment of the Fire, and wretched is the destination." [2:126]
And [mention] when Abraham was raising the foundations of the House and [with him] Ishmael, [saying], "Our Lord, accept [this] from us. Indeed , you are the All-Hearing, All-Knowing. [2:127]

"Blessed are those whose strength is in You, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage. As they pass through the Valley of Baca, they make it a place of springs; even the autumn rain covers it with pools"

I am from Makkah, my ancestors were all from Makkah and we've lived near Masjid Al Haram in Misfala and Bat'ha Quraysh for about 1500 years.
I think going through the ancient history of the Haram you missed a few key moments like when the Kaaba was destroyed, when the black stone was stolen then returned, and didn't cover Juhaiman's story through multiple lenses.
There's also commending action from King Abdulaziz, the founder of Saudi Arabia, who unified prayer time, as Maliki, Hanafi, Hanbali, and Shafii Muslims all had different corners and prayed under different imams. This was ended in the era of King Abdulaziz, and it was decreed that prayer in Makkah would be unified.
The truth is that there are many accounts, and we don't know exactly what happened during the siege. But this was a lot more than a group of people trying to overthrow the government. This was a group claiming to have found the Mahdi, a figure signaling that the antichrist and Christ himself are now among us. This was dangerously threatening to the entire world, not just Saudi Arabia.
Also Hajj stampedes were common every year. I had picked out bodies myself when volunteering in 2006 and 2007. This was because many would come to Makkah illegally and would come in numbers Makkah could not handle, and this is why Saudi Arabia has become a lot more strict with Hajj permits, offering it for free but in limited numbers to control the crowds.
And a final point: Muslims generally do not approve of pictures or illustrations of religious figures, including Hagar. We would greatly appreciate if you don't use Eurocentric paintings to depict religious figures in the context of Islam.

For those saying that it must stink to high heaven of body odor around the Kaaba, I'll just interject that it actually probably smells of frankincense. Many families hang all of their clean clothes in one room and then light frankincense. It permeates the clothes and, if memory serves, is a spiritual tradition and is used to purify the air and clothes against contagion.

Not sure which channel this should be in. But a program on the Logistics of the Haj would be interesting. I have been to Jedda several times, where most flights come in and it is expansive where they land and off load then take off (minimal fancy terminals, just tarmac and buses). And then there is where do you house and feed several million people who are visiting.

Upvoting this. Hajj logistics is insane and it's a miracle they pull it off every year. Not just Mecca either, it's the entire end to end Hajj including housing people in Mina and on Arafat in temporary tents and accommodation (not to mention ablution and toilet facilities), plus the transport and emergency services infrastructure required...it's a gargantuan undertaking.

From millennium past there were two types of Arabs: city dwellers and 'bedouins'. Bedouins are nomads; they travel through the vast deserts and are constantly on the move . Even during the Golden Age of Islam, when Arabs were the richest and most learned people on earth, bedouins remained in virtually the same state that they had been for thousands of years, poor, uneducated, and cut off from the rest of the world. Yet Muhammad (peace be upon him) foretold that these Arab bedouins of his region would one day compete with one another in the construction of tall buildings. A man asked the prophet "Now tell me of the last hour" and he replied that you see the barefoot unclothed bedouins competing in the construction of tall buildings. Today we find in the Arabian Peninsula the bedouins who used to be impoverished herders of camels and sheep are now not only competing with one another but also the entire world to construct the world's tallest buildings. How did one of the poorest people on earth who literally wore rags become the wealthiest nations on earth? One thing that made this rapid change possible was the discovery of oil. The seemingly empty deserts of the bedouins had it in abundance. They went from camels to Cadillacs in a single generation.
The construction of tall buildings among the Arab bedouins has even reached Mecca, Muhammad's (peace be upon him) city of birth. The last few decades have seen a
massive surge in building construction in Mecca, the famous mecca clock tower is currently the third tallest building in the world. In order for such construction to be possible many of mecca's ancient mountains had to be demolished in order to make room for the tall buildings that had sprung up.
Amazingly this is also something that Muhammad (peace be upon him) had foretold. He said the hour will not be established until the mountains are moved from their
places. This tremendous feat of demolishing entire mountains has only been made possible in the 20th century, with the advent of technology such as explosives. It's important to point out that Muhammad (peace be upon him) himself was a simple man and wanted other Muslims to maintain that simplicity. He did not like Muslims to be extravagant so if he wanted to will this prophecy to become true he would have to encourage the Arabs to build tall buildings yet he never did

Great video, though I'd like to point out that the French temporarily converting in order to assist is only based off of a book written by someone who wasn't there. The more plausible theory is that they were invited to the nearby city of Jeddah, where they drew up the plans for gassing the militants out.
