    Traded my '15 STI for a Tesla Model 3. Dumbest move of my adult life. I really enjoyed my '15 STI and drove her spiritedly for 50,000 amazing miles and with zero issues. I think I'll hold out till next year for the redesign. I sincerely hope the STI will remain true to its roots.
    Edit: Didn't wait till next year. Proudly sold my Tesla for a '20 STI. Too much uncertainty with what's coming for STI.
    Edit again: WOW! Am I happy I followed my heart and bought the 2020 STI. The end of STI as we know it has arrived folks... If there is a car you're on the fence of buying, don't delay. EV generation is upon us and the days of ICE vehicles are numbered. Enjoy them while you can! Life is too short to sacrifice your happiness...

    For as much shit I used to talk about the STI, after i had traded my STI in for a F80 M3, I still find myself tempted to go back to the STI. Power aside, the refined EJ motor, 6 speed, true AWD, it's simplicity, raw driving experience, driver focused feeling and it's hydraulic steering really brings back my joy and experience with the early 2000s late 90s JDM cars/ driving style; which is nearly impossible to find now in modern cars today, except with the STI.
    This cars simplicity and raw driving experience are going to be missed now that everything is electronic, robing us of what true driving experience is about. We may not see it right now but give it time, all of us who complained about the STI being "old" and "needs modern updates/ tech" will eventually realize the "old" & "outdated" feeling is what true drivers will crave, not a car that does the driving for us with its 20+ ECUs. We will all realize we were wrong for hating on the current STI and resent what we complained about.
    Once this old school STI is gone, it will take time for us to realize and wish there was still a driver focused sports car that retained that "old" 90s/ early 2000s JDM driving experience and style.

      @Mike604 4 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      That’s what I’ve been saying all along, people are craving for an old 2J Supra and a basic NA NSX.
      People who complained never actually owned both the WRX and STi to make a comparison. I traded in my CVT WRX and drove my buddies Stage 2+ WRX and was just too boring compared to the true DNA and theatre of a beast that is the EJ STi

    I think it’s so interesting how personal preference plays such a big role on someone’s opinion over a car. While some say this car isn’t as engaging and fun as the type r or focus rs, many reviewers in England for example said the sti is such a characterful and analog experience and it’s amazing on back roads..... that’s why it’s important to really test drive a car before you choose one, that’s the best way to see what you like

      Hahahaha everyone wants to know. I got 16 mpg on average this week. That was me driving it 60% of the time in stop and go traffic, 40% open road. I’m not launching or doing any crazy stuff, and I’ve kept the RPMs low. I live in Southern California and Premium here is over 4 bucks a gallon. But I also knew that when I bought this car. If you want an STI, the last of the EJ, this is the most refined version of that engine (aside from the S209). You get exactly what you pay for, and this car is a blast. I love it.

    Some cars in that price range you mentioned like the Merc are just a whole different audience though. The driving experience is very numb in those cars, the WRX has always been a more raw experience. And even though these new ones are far more refined than what they used to be, they seem almost deliberately less so than their competition. And that's OK.

    So in my opinion, price range is relatively high for outdated design.

    Also, for the life of me, I'll never understand why all these review channels, when talking about the STI, complain that it doesn't have the latest luxuries - like VR this, HUD that, massaging front seats. Folks, you are totally missing the point of the car. It's a race car for Pete's sake. It's not your mom's cushy Merc SUV. All that stuff adds cost, weight, and doesn't make the car drive, perform or handle any better. "But the car is $40K!" you scream. Yah, because it has a bulletproof trans, THREE differentials (TWO of which are mechanical - go look up the cost of a Quaife), beefy everything, very well sorted OEM suspension, and the whole platform can be modified quite well (assuming you don't do dumb things). The money you spend is not for luxury goods. It's for track chops, which this car has. If you want all that driver assist stuff, go review an Acura or something. Stop dinging the STI for not having it. It's not meant to have it, on purpose.
