From an English teacher, I must commend your faaabulous review here. As a big Dune fan, you did a super great job of giving disclosure without spoiling major plot points. You have a new fan! :)
Your enthusiasm for this story is refreshing. I first read Dune in high school, then maybe two more times throughout my life. It is my favorite science fiction book and possibly my favorite book of all time. Love everything about the story. I like how you said this book drops you in The deep end and you either drown, learn to swim or doggy paddle to the shallow end. Well, I'm in deep from the start. I saw the 1984 cheesy movie, where they tried to fit the whole entire story in 2 hours. It was a bad movie but it had its really excellent scenes and overall I did like it. The series on the Syfy channel was also good. Although over the top and campy, with the worst costumes you can imagine and a 23-year-old playing Paul. But that worked for me actually. The series stuck to the book and I actually like that a lot. The 2021 movie. What can I say. When me and my friend went to see it and I know we were always making jokes and making fun of movies we were seeing, well, the entire movie it was utter silence. Like jaw-dropping. My friend knew the book well and I was practically an expert and it was just so good. Like exactly what I had thought all these years that this world could be like. I think it's still right behind blade Runner as my second favorite film of all time. The first part of darkness and wet coldness of Caladan, then coming into the brightness and dryness of Arrakis. I mean talk about a mind funk. Great characters with Gurney, Duncan, Jessica and Paul all perfectly cast. Too much to say about the movie right now highly recommended. I know a lot of people didn't understand it but I say F them read the book and get into it it'll change your life because it definitely changed my life
I love Dune as well, and agree with your points, especially regarding female characterization. Compare how females are depicted in Dune to how they are portrayed by Brunner in Stand on Zanzibar for instance. Written in the same period, and yet Dune is so far ahead of its time from that perspective. Great review, glad I found your channel.
Hello and welcome to my channel! I really need to get back to reading more Dune. It was ahead of it's time and broches some very serious topics. Do the ends justify the means, or do the means destroy the ends? Fascinating stuff.
@@ItsTooLatetoApologize Thank you so much for the welcome, I see from your other videos that you are very well read. Looking forward to your future videos.
I love your review, the series is really good, God Emperor of Dune is my third Favorite of the Series after Children of Dune being Second and Dune being my first favorite of the series
Very intelligent lady. Dune is my favourite book. Read the first three so far. Debating whether to go onto God Emperor next or reread the first three first. Love your views.
I liked the movie but I was a bit disappointed with where it cut off. I really want to see the last half so I can judge it more accurately. The last scene in the movie felt like quite a let down as it felt like Paul was just tripping out in the tent. I really didn't feel like it was communicating the change in his senses caused by the spice, or was that the point? Is it all in his head and he has made everyone believe him? It's curious. Can't wait to see the next movie. What did you think?
What a wonderful and entertaining review! I love your analogy comparing reading Dune with jumping in the deep end. I read Dune many decades ago (as well as the other 5 Dune novels), and have probably read Dune 4 or 5 times since then (along with a couple of audiobooks). I am sure you have heard that the 1984 adaptation by David Lynch was pretty bad. I was really anxious to see that movie when it came out (a movie I didn't think could ever be made), especially after seeing the cast, the sets and the wardrobe. Let's just say, I left the theater very disappointed. It had potential, but never realized that potential. While Lynch is much to blame (he's certainly not a sci-fi guy), the studio hampered his vision of the film to the point Lynch disowned it. I have no doubt that Denis Villeneuve vision (part 1 of 2 parts) will succeed, where Lynch's version will continue to remain in the scrap heap ... although it does have its following.
Thank you for watching. I can’t wait to see the new adaptation. I remember when the last adaptation came out and I wasn’t really interested in seeing it then. But I’m very interested in this one.
Nice review, I agree with almost all of your points. It’s sooo my jam too! Dune along with its first two sequels Dune Messiah and Children of Dune are all must-reads. From the 4th (God Emperor of Dune) onward the series definitely loses its magic for me, and the Brian Herbert/Kevin Anderson books… well, let’s say they don’t even remotely hold a candle to Frank Herbert’s works. But the first three Dune books are unquestionably works of genius.

Hi Heather. Thanks for for both the compliment and for watching. 😊 I loved Dune so much, but I think that shows. Lol!

I haven't had a change to watch the new movie yet. I can't wait to see it as I haven't seen any other adaptations. Thank you for watching and sharing.
Awesome review. I feel like you don't get Paul's full arc unless you read children of dune as well.
I am going to read on in the series for sure. Thank you for watching.

On religion part frank herbert took almost all the things from history of islam : from the life of prophet muhammad, life of prophet Isa (jesus).
I love your review, the series is really good, God Emperor of Dune is my third Favorite of the Series after Children of Dune being Second and Dune being my first favorite of the series

What’s your thoughts on the movie
I haven't watched it yet. I'm so behind on the times.

Has it been a long time since you read the first three?
I'm currently reading Dune, how did you find the movie

I really need to get a move on Children of Dune. Thanks for watching!
I would have enjoyed dune a lot more if they took alllllll the prophecies and put them at the end.
We did not descend from elves and hobbits we evolve into mythic creatures maintaining a recognisable humanity scifi vs fantasy
I may re read it. Hated it the first time through.
Nothing is for everyone, but you may feel differently about it now without all that confusion in the way.
I think i got through half the book when i was like 15, too corny, just couldn't get into the story
You made more than one error. There's no sound.
There is sound when I listen.
Dune is for no one. It's woupd be better off forgoten. I hope that at some point its influence will stop poisioning litirature.
