Dune was my first " adult" books.. I've read the series multiple times ( 60yrs old now) and reap some new insight each time...ahead of his time, unique in his vision.

Dune is indeed sci-fi but all neglect the second truism of the book. It is also the first space opera in history. Reasons are 1. It generational in it's timespan. 2. It's characters come and go (and unique that some reoccur constantly) 3. The protagonist the same (family) for hundreds of generations. I also read honorverse and see the mimicry of dune in it's pages so I am confident in calling dune the first true space opera.

Dune made me want to have better control over my mind and body so I practiced the disciplines from the book and, I believe, it saved my life several times.

I have read the Dune series more than 25 years ago, and as I was searching for info on the new Dune movie, I stumble upon your channel. Wonderful find I must say! (I have read the series again last month just because of you!). I really hope they will not stop making a movie just on the first book, but probably they will, as it is the most action packed one. But, for me, is not the most interesting one. I think Chapterhouse is the best one, probably I found it so because I'm older now :D

I tried watching Dune when I was young but couldn't understand why the whole galaxy was fighting over spice. You videos have given the Dune series an explanation, and a good way to understand how epic the whole saga really is. I am interested in it now because of you and I thank you for that.

Damn, more I watch you and listen to your love of Herbert's accomplishment/s, thus -- the more that I am deciding to one day try again to get back into Dune and read the full saga. Tried in High School but it was too much for me. But, the movie helped me to understand more what was happening. Glad to see someone love something so much. My love in high school was Riverworld by Farmer. Now, that's a good read and series too.

I enjoyed your video, but, as enormous as Herbert's influence was, I still think you overstate it some. As an example, your comment that Dune must have been the inspiration for BoosterSpice. To pick one of many possible alternative sources, Wagner had Freia's life extending Golden apples in Das Rhinegold, written almost 100 years earlier. All writers pull from earlier sources, including Frank Herbert

0:17 sorry for going off-topic a bit, but on The Expanse series, I googled for it after watching this video and saw that the SyFy channel made a cable TV series of The Expanse which ran for three (3) seasons, and after getting cancelled Amazon Prime picked up the IP and published a 4th season in December 2019. And the reviews seem to indicate the series is not too bad...

There is one more point: the Herbert's description of the Arrakis' ecology is the most accurate fictional work with James Lovelock's Gaia Hypotesis.

I was 11 when I first read June and it was one of the first science fiction novels I ever read. I suspect having no preconceptions helped a lot with me really getting into the world and gets philosophy. It also helped that I had done some heavy reading before bags like bullfinches mythology and other stuff.
