    Instead of beating Winston with outright power, Les is using the same "level" of groundstrokes as Winston, but smarter and more strategic. Not even big serves to set up easy put aways. Very interesting that he essentially leveled down to give you a chance and make it fun for you

    • @johnnyblackrants7625
      @johnnyblackrants7625 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think he leveled down; that's just his game. What you're talking about there constitutes the large difference in level. Also, it was 8-0, so it wasn't exactly close. Also he hit a few aces... the serve was pretty big.

    • @berimboplata
      @berimboplata ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johnnyblackrants7625 He most definitely leveled down. When Winston played another 12+ UTR it was a pretty brutal beatdown, no real rallies, just winner after winner or 1-2 combos off the serve. And when Winston played Karue, a pro, Karue also leveled down and still beat Winston easily, but it wasn't the brutal beating you expected, just safe easy rallies that Karue just won each time...because Karue leveled down to make it interesting.

  • @ranz1022

  • @nCode1
    @nCode1 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's nice to have consistency and it's not an easy game to develop too because if you're not putting enough discomfort to the opponent, it'll not work. Just getting everything it back is not enough, you need to make it hard for them to go on the offense like good depth and pace etc. But the problem with this is when you'll get to a threshold of players who are just as consistent and you'll have no way to beat them. I'd like to suggest him to develope a weapon like a bigger forehand but he probably already have tried so to up this consistency game, he can't rely just on the slice backhand to mix it up, he can also develope a flat forehand shot to mix it up with his normal spin strokes. The added pace and odd bounce is a good mix to the point.

  • @jeanb.3493
    @jeanb.3493 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great match, thanks for posting!
    Regarding consistency, yes, it's important to get that extra ball over the net, but in this match, I would rather highlight Les' consistent *quality* of shot. He was clearly countering every shot from Winston with an equal or better quality shot. *This* is pressure, because your *experience* that your opponent is keeping up and even being a step ahead, matches *reality* unf. But the error lies in going for bigger shots when you see they continue to produce UEs. Then you have to realize that you are playing patterns that favor Les to the point where you win no games. That being said, I'm not sure going for alternative tactics, such as moon balling, would have made a difference as Les seemed pretty comfortable with all types of trajectories.
    A few things you perhaps could have done:
    - getting more first serves in by going for less and/or bigger margins, to reduce the pressure on the second serve. You made one to many errors on serve against this type of player.
    - when getting pulled into no man's land, going back to the baseline instead of going to the net. Les' passing shots punished you more than once, coming to the ent behind a less than stellar approach.
    That being said, I think Winston played really well in the rallies, and it's fascinating to see how these matchups play out.

    Enjoyed this video a lot. Les has tighter control/technique where winston techniques are wild with a loopy forehand...I honestly think Winston string tension is too low 48lbs.. he should try 52lb range to decrease spin and increase pace.. sometimes flatter shots with better pace = winner. Spin shots bounce higher and shorter thus more time for the opponent to recover and shorter shots equals is usually not good.

    Les is more! Yeah, I’m unfamiliar with UTR ratings, but he’s clearly a stronger more consistent player, a lot fewer unforced errors than Winston for sure. I didn’t see Les closing on the net very much after he said he was going to, but he didn’t need to in order to win the points.

    Les stands further back from the baseline than Winston giving him more time to add spin to the lower ball for deeper shots.

    This Les guy is deceptively good. He is around Winston's height, 6'2" maybe?, but you won't see that from his movements which look like those of a short 5'5" - 5'10" retriever style guy. I believe him when he said in his old days he liked to go to the net and put away points. A fast and tall netter is everybody's nightmare. Will need a much stronger opponent to see how good he really is.

    I think the most noticeable thing about Winston's game is feet movement. This had been pointed out by Karue. It seems like at your level, your feet should be shuffling a lot faster. I even saw older players at 4.5 level with more sprightly feet movement. I think you will be a totally different player if feet movement can be improved to the point where you don't look like you're wearing ankle weights moving around. Maybe that's the idea. You wear ankle weights to play, so when you take them off, you suddenly feel much lighter and therefore shuffling feet faster.

    I’ve always wondered what type of shampoo Winston uses to get his hair to puff out like that lol

    please remind people that "consistent" does not mean just getting it over the net ...a lot of hacks take that to mean "pushing". Les was "consistently placing" the ball deep and/or difficult to tee off on....which is a sick skill as good as hitting a winner.

    Love the channel. Gotta say though, you really gotta work on that serve. 14:46 - that's a first serve at 4.5?

      Not even the serve. Overall he usually plays a lot better I feel. Just an off day cus the consistency was so off
