I feel like this game is a celebration to the whole character action genre. I mean they got the kingdom hearts team, the platinum games team, and a devil may cry combat designer.
If you travelled back in time to fall 2001, found me as a high school freshman playing DMC1 on the PS2, and whispered in my ear "This is the future of Final Fantasy," I would have thought you were incredibly high. But hey, if the game is good for what it is and we get some cool combo videos out of it, fuck it, I'm here for it.
I mean in like 5 years FF7 Advent Children released and ever since then the devs and a lot of Final Fantasy fans wished to have that kind of Advent Children combat in future final fantasy games, Final Fantasy Versus 13 was the first sample.
The combat's been growing on me more and more. There may not be nearly as many moves as in a DMC moveset, but you can still do a ton with your toolset and it expands pretty naturally. I still wish there was proper hitstun on elites and bosses, but they make up for it in other ways.
@@otterdonnelly9959 i do notice frame rate drops alot. Its annoying but not the end of the world. Im also good at these games so i guess that helps. They’ll probably patch that stuff out anyways.
As a fan of fighting games I love air combos where you touch the ground while the enemy is still being jiggled and then relaunch them into another air combo.
"jiggled" lmao. I agree tho. It is really visually appealing when the player transitions between air attacks and ground ones fluently through like land cancelling

Still not quite as bad as I expected though, considering most of your damage comes from your skill upgrades.
Absolutely love this game. I found the combat more akin to GoW than DmC tho. The fluidity and speed in DmC is something else. The attacks in FF16 feel heavier and weightier (which feels nice) similar to GoW.
this is the ultimate action game experience, so many moves and abilities all available on command, a loyal doggie to aid u and launch enemies for u, it looks so GOOD!! cant believe this is ur day 1 thats crazy
You can also cancel the mortal blow/fatal strike animation with charge shot. Wonder what else cancels into it like that because charge lift is so enormous.
You can do some crazy stuff with thunderstorm and heatwave. After a stinger a basic combo do a charged shot into torgal straight into thunderstorm and as the enemy is suspended high in the air you’ll be able to do heatwave and follow up with a phoenix shift.
This games combat is NUTTY... I just forgot I don't own the game. fuck... SICK AS FUCK BeeG you combo freak of nature clocked up some crazy shit out of this game and I'm couldn't be more excited to see more.

I found a cancel using charged magic after the startup of downthrust. Idk if its got any better routes than dashing/jumping, but downthrust-hold attack, charged magic-hold magic, aerial burning blade, downthrust-hold attack, burning blade, charged magic is pretty fun at my skill level. Might try adding a torgul attack at the end into a blind justice when it gets more comfy?

@@Master_Matoya they do, it's actually a lot more forgiving. The only thing about it is that you can only jump cancel 2 times (when the skill is mastered that is) before touching the ground to reset it.

So you spent some XP after all? The abundance of particle effects in this game makes some of the combos really tough to read, but I can definitely see some cool shit in there and it looks extremely fun ngl
whichever control set that puts magic on a shoulder button is the one i use (type c?), so i don't have to roll my thumb across multiple buttons so much. what it shuffles some of other buttons to be feels a little weird though. i really don't know why they didn't just let you custom remap all the shoulder and face buttons

Once you engage in combat the image quality drops further in order to keep the game at 60 for combat, once finished the encounter the image quality ups but you lose fluidity. Cutscenes are all capped at 30 regardless of mode of choice.
