    Lightweight is good and what did I use it for it’s a lawnmower th-cam.com/users/postUgkxTPN04aT-Qdjr_KS3ql7ng8wnU3wwsCqk also recommend Yes it is lightweight so hence not as robust as our old one. But if you take care it does the job really well.

    Another thing to check is the vent hole in the fuel tank cap,if it gets blocked it creates a vaccum in the tank & stops fuel from flowing to the carb .

      Correct. I remember my father going through 3 new mowers, only to find that was all three’s problem.
      Hasn’t been the case with 5 of mine, so I went electric & actually enjoy mowing again.

      @@sunshine3914 yes it depends on how big your area is to cut though. Petrol are far better and stronger than electric even with the new technology which costs an arm and a leg to replace batteries etc

    I hope you can see this, I am newly single woman and trying my best to relearn how to care for my lawn. I have been struggling with my lawn mower for a month. Several videos told me it was carburetor but I was afraid to take it on until I saw this video. You have no idea how much you have helped me and made me feel so accomplished. I did everything you said and now my mower is running amazing. Mahalo nui loa (big thank you) for making this video available ❤

    While you have the bolt out of the carb there is another much smaller hole to clean out also. It can be seen in the video, but barely (4:17). It's located right at the top of the threads.

    If you do this and it still starts then stalls, try draining your gas tank. Mine was full of crud (don't know how it happened), but once I drained the tank and put in fresh gas, it started and ran just fine.

    Ahhhhh. In lockdown and Honda mower cable broke, so it is now on order. Dug out my old Hayter Harrier 48 (Briggs and Stratton engine) from the back of the shed and it had not been used for 3 years. Had same engine problem as described in the video. It momentarily started for a few seconds then died. Carried out the procedure in the video (and it is 5 minutes or less) and , hey, it worked.So chuffed! Thank you so much for taking the time to upload this fix. You have made me , any many others, very happy.

    Worked a treat - thank you. One tip: rather than crimping the fuel hose (and risk it splitting) I just tilted the mower back 45 degrees to direct the fuel away from the hose. (This technique will only work if there is less than half a tank of fuel.) By tilting the mower back 45 degrees you also get better access to the bolt at the bottom of the carb ;-) Any how, thanks again!!

      Or use sockets on the pliers so it is a rounded edge contact on the hose. Exactly what we do for rubberised hoses on vehicles too.

    This is some sound advice, partner. My mower was exhibiting the same behavior shown in your video. I removed the little jet but I didn’t have a tiny wire to run through the holes. Sprayed a little brake cleaner into the top hole to flush out the gunk. I was able to see daylight through the tiny holes afterwards. Put it back and gave a crank of the mower and I’m back to running normal again. Thanks for the tip.

    • @rickeykeeton71
      @rickeykeeton71 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Franklin Boet May be because in some cases this may be a temporary fix. Sometimes the main jet itself will be dirty not just that piece that screws into the long main jet that goes all the way up to the throat of the carb.
      If a piece of crap just happens to clog that one piece, then good deal. But, sometimes little pieces of deteriorating fuel line, dirt, corrosion and whatever builds up in other parts of the carb and the whole carb and all passages eventually needs cleaning.

    My mower wouldn’t start after the winter storage and I had changed oil; spark plug and air filter but the issue was still there. I was about to order a new carb until I came across this video and then it was only 5 minutes for me to do the fix. I found water and debris in the bowl and a clogged jetty. Second pull and it started!
    For the first 2-3 minutes until the engine warmed up there was white smoke coming out of the exhaust and then it all cleared out by itself. I guess there was bit of excess oil that had found it’s way to the cylinder. Used the mower to cut grass and it’s now working like brand new. Thank you!

    After days of trying to start it, I fixed mine in ONE minute, with no tools!
    I just had an MTD Bolens / Briggs 140 cc with plastic carburetor that would start easily, run for one or two seconds, then quit. Tried and tried, but it kept quitting after a second or two. Was ready to take in under warranty - still nearly new with only a few hours on it. Turned the mower on its right side, with the gas tank up, for a better look at the carb. One thought was maybe it had some water in the carb, from the mandatory ruin-your-engine ethanol content in today's excuse for "gasoline". Was preparing to blow compressed air into the fuel line, but decided to just hit that primer bulb hard, like 20 times, with the mower in this tilted-over position, then stood it back up and hit the bulb again hard several more times. OMG after three days of this nonsense, it just started right up and ran fine, so I mowed the whole lawn. I will say the 140 cc engine is kind of wimpy when you hit tall grass - wants to quit at the slightest challenge. But I babied it through, and finished the job. Note: I've found that with a chainsaw, it's definitely worth buying that expensive bottled fuel at the store instead of pump gas. The difference is like night and day - runs perfect on the bottled fuel, terrible on pump gas. The mandatory ethanol (drinking-type alcohol) content, in pump gas from a gas station, absorbs water, then separates as a heavier layer, from the gas. And pump gas goes bad in other ways when stored for a long time. The bottled fuel does not have these problems. Or use racing fuel such as VP Racing fuels. Regular pump gas including premium is generally bad for small engines, especially if you are going to let it sit for any long period of time, like over a month..

    • @dougselsam5393
      @dougselsam5393 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ms.rolltide256 Well I was ready to either take off the carburetor and clean it, or just take it in to the nearest service center and let them mess with it (warranty), but I got lucky. Could have been water in the bottom of the gas, or maybe some dirt that was blocking the flow and got loosened from my procedure. Anyway, sorry if it did not work for you. Probably worth a try though. if I had not tried it, things would have been much more difficult for me. One thing to understand: The "gasoline" you buy at the pump is now mandated to contain a certain amount of ethanol (same as drinking alcohol) - thank the corn-farmer lobbyists.
      Ethanol mixes readily with water, and tends to pull in water from the air. At some point, the water/alcohol mixture separates from the fuel, and, being heavier, settles to the lowest point, which is usually where the fuel pickup intake point for the carburetor is located. This water will obviously not burn and if it stays in place your engine can't run right, if it runs at all, until the water is removed.

    Every other year, this happens to my lawnmower, then need to call the service dealer, then shell out between $750-$100 to get it "fixed." Now I am not a first class repair guy nor am I a ten thumbs guy, I am somewhere in the middle leaning toward ten thumbs. Today I tried to start my mower, it starts, then stalls repeatedly. I watched this video, went over to the mower, followed the directions and presto, PROBLEM FIXED!!!! Runs like it is new again. I must have spent $500 over the years on this repair at the service dealer, I only wish I had watched the vid sooner. ANYBODY (well almost anybody) can do this repair! Thanks for the video. BTW my mower was a Toro.

    Thanks so much for posting this vid! Saved me from removing the carb and doing potentially unnecessary repairs. Two quick suggestions: 1). Syphon the gas tank instead of risking damage to the line and 2) If, like me, the machine does this again, spend the $4-5 to add an inline fuel filter. My only trouble was getting the bowl seated properly while starting that jet bolt with my fingers. Noticed your B&S engine also didnt come with the fuel filter, and I promise it is worth adding! You won’t have to do this again, barring the use of subpar or old gas, which is a different matter. :)

    Thank you! I spilled most of my gas (apparently vice grips didn't seal), but I tilted the mower up as someone else suggested and had enough gas to start up for 30 seconds. The carburetor cup looked as if it had sand in it after spraying the carb cleaner on the cup and letting it dry. I scooped it with a paper towel and dumped it.

  • @cslloyd1
    @cslloyd1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    SIMPLEST FIX: No need to remove carburetor, just put carburetor cleaner in the tank. Details below.
    My mower sat for 18 months with 1/2 full tank (does have fuel stabilizer in it). Symptoms were same as yours except my motor wouldn't start at all until I got some starting fluid. My fix was to top off the tank with fresh fuel and add "Fuel Injector & Carburetor Cleaner" from Walmart (Supertech, 6oz treats 21 gallons). I estimate I used about 3-4 times more than you're supposed to. After adding the carb cleaner, I started the motor several times with starting fluid but no improvement. I let it sit for 24 hours and the next day, with the help of some starting fluid (ether), it cranked up and ran without stopping. I did manually push the throttle open to get the rpms up until it got warm.
    You may not be so lucky, but its worth a try. I have a Briggs&Stratton 500E.
    UPDATE: As it turns out, I have a SECOND lawn mower that also would NOT start after sitting. This time it was not so easy. I tried the "Carb Cleaner in the old fuel" trick for several days. I ended up having to lean the mower over and dump out the old fuel completely. With a completely empty tank, I put in the Walmart Carb Cleaner and FRESH FUEL JUST PURCHASED into the tank. Again, I had to let it sit over night, but with the help of the Starting Fluid (Ether) and pushing the red primer button a bunch of times, I got it going. That's TWO times I fixed this problem without removing the Carburetor. Takes a little more time, but removing the carb is no fun.

    Another thing you can do is to winterize them just put in Aspen or Stihl premium fuel. It has a 2 year shelf life so it won't degrade over the winter.

    Thank you for making this video. Half way through mowing my front yard “which I take a lot of pride in” I couldn’t finish because my mower stopped running. Watched your video and used a staple instead of wire cause I didn’t have any and gave it a good cleaning and she fired right up and ran great! Thanks again!!

    Bingo. I've never touched a carb before(!) but this was easy to do and totally solved my stalling issue. I think it was a bunch of water in the bowl from a long winter of condensation build up. Thanks a bunch!

    Just did this today and IT WORKED!!. Thank you very much. The t-valve within the bolt that I removed seemed to be clogged. I used a twist tie from our garbage bag supply (stripped off the plastic coating) and it slid right through the hole. Be sure to do the vertical and horizontals of that t-valve part. Thanks again bbb jim1.

    Loving this, straight to the point, no fucking about to prolong the video and force skipping.
    Only thing to add is that for me, it was caused by old gas residue in carburetor because i forgot to use up/drain the old gas after the season was over, i did basically everything as the author, except afterwards i used compressor.

    Pulled it apart, everything seemed fine. Cleaned it up, put it back, and still died after 2 minutes. Removed the air filter and fired it up again, was able to complete the mowing. So dirty filters can be a real problem. Thanks for the video anyway.

    Thank you so much. I was going to buy a new mower next week because mine is 10 years old and for the end of the summer it would bie every 20 or 30 seconds. I got it out for the first time this year and had the same problem. I did exatcly what you did in this video and my mower is running like new. You saved me at least $250.00.

    Of course you start with the main jet haha. Also guys, check your air filter, spark plug, and oil as well. Really good video. This is usually what I do every 2-3 months. Depending on how bad the dust, dirt and other things are.

    Excellent video sir! I looked at some other videos that had different solutions. But I had a snowblower that had a surging issue a few years ago and it was a clogged jet. So your video made a lot of sense as to the proper solution to the problem. I followed your instructions and in 10 minutes the lawnmower was working perfectly. My son had used up all my carb cleaner so I used a small wire and throttle body cleaner that I had on hand. It worked, thanks for your video.
