    You’re the man!! I went through several “fixes” on this online, from rebuilding the carb to replacing the O-ring with no luck. Cleaning the bowl nut ports did the job. Thank You Bruce!

    My mower is an Ariens walk behind and after years of starting on the first pull neither my son or I could get it to start. I watched your video and another by Dandle and tried it for myself. The gap tip was also helpful. I followed your steps and put it back together. Thank you so much as my mower started on the very first pull. You saved this senior citizen a lot of money.

    Thank you for a trick you shared - when I cleaned my bowl - I took the filer assembly off (which you said DON'T as it could compromise the gasket seal) well when my mower tried to run for 2 seconds and quit, I searched on you tube and your video came up on the list. As soon as I heard you say compromise - I paused the video and I was off like a shot to my mower - tore it back down - checked that the gasket was good- then horsed those three screws down like I took them off - and YES SIR! We are back in business! TYTYTYTY!!!

    I've got an 8 YO Toro Super Recycler that is doing the same thing (start, sputter, die); the jet was OK. New plug today. What's funny is my mower has the exact same shape/size/layout engine (but smaller back wheel) - I'll disassemble the carb tomorrow; it sat outside for 1.5 years (here in CA, so like 6" of rain this year?) but now we have a new pool and landscaping. You've given a computer nerd confidence!

    • @javegallc1184
      @javegallc1184 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Same here. I spent 2 days cleaning out the carb, spraying out the jet, running sea foam through, but she wouldn't stay running. I never noticed that tiny hole in that bolt. When I ran a thin wire through it, it "popped" out through the other side, pushing out a plug of gunk that had formed through the years. Once I cleaned that hole out good, put her back together and ran like a charm!

      @@castledomeknives9395 If I can repair it in 30 minutes with no new parts, $20. If it needs parts, I buy online and charge exactly what I paid for them. If it takes me an hour, labor is $30.
      If I did it 8 hours a day, that would be $240 a day. 5 days a week, that would be $1,200. 50 weeks a year, that would be $60,000 annually. Work out of my 3 car garage so no overhead (also my Man Cave). House also has 4 bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms. Bought in 2003 and paid off in 2018. No reason to charge more for lawn mower repairs. If people are struggling to make ends meet, I only charge the cost of parts. No labor charge.

    Thank you so much Sir, I have a Toro push lawn mower, it would start and then stop. I am an IT Specialist majoring in Computer Science. I know everything there is to know about computers, I know nothing about motors especially lawn mower motors. I was going to just take it to a repair shop, but then I decided to look up my issue on Bing. I was then directed to your page on TH-cam, I must have watched this video 10 times just to make sure I understood what I was doing, I saved my self about a $100. I cleaned that little bolt the way I saw you do it, check and cleaned the filter, now the lawn mower runs as good as it did the day I purchased it. I would like to know how to tighten or get the blades sharpened next, I just want to say thank you very much for sharing the knowledge you have on these things.

    I appreciate your effort on this video. I don't know anything about engines, but thought if I worked along side you instructions I might be able to fix my mower myself. My grass is shamefully long waiting on my husband. Since he had to work today and it is sweltering out I pulled my mower into my house, grabbed a tool box and turned on your video. I don't want to sound ungrateful, but you really need to put a warning at the beginning about clamping the gas line. I was following your instructions and just before you stopped to clamp the gas line I finished loosening the carb nut and ended up with gas all over my floor. It was a terrible mess and my house smells awful.

    use premium fuel in small engine , for some reason it works better and does not gum up in a carburetor after long storage ,
    second if you have a fuel valve turn it off while the engine is running and wait until the fuel dries out from the carburetor ,
    Fuel left in the carburetor for a long time will dry up and damage the carburetor , installing a fuel shut off valve is easy ,
    If engine is hard to start remove the spark plug and use a propane torch burn off the Corbin residue and whatever might be on the spark plug , I do it until the Central Electric and the ground electroid get red hot , of course wait until the spark plug cool down before reinstalling it , in the Old Country Palestine we used to put a small amount of gasoline on the ground put the spark plug in the middle of it and set it on fire , that always worked to get us out of a jam ,

      Nidal Shehadeh You might try running the engine dry of fuel, or taking that fuel and spilling it back into the fuel gas contsiner you stored it into when buying it and bringing it to your home for use to put into the mower. Gasoline, when left into the tank, weather mixed with oil, 2 cycle, or 4 cylcle, straight gas should ALWAYS be removed before winter storage as gasoline has a tendancy of causing varnish to clogg up the carburator jets, air/fuel ratios, and even the fuel line, which needs to be clean for a good, efficent running engine. Also gasoline at times can get stale, which is also very bad for engines, carburators, carburator floats which regulates an even flow of the fuel into the engine, especially when the machine is on a small grade of a hill so that the engine still runs and doesn't stall out due to a carburstor float. From simple basic, to complicated, process of elimination.

    Great video Bruce. I have a mtd chipper shredder with a Briggs and Stratton 5hp engine. There is no priming bulb. I've done a lot of work on this. Fuel tank, all gaskets, refurbished my exhaust, New fuel pipe, New spark plug, New armature. Lol I'm sure your getting my drift. But the engine will only fire and run if I put starter fluid or gas directly into the carburetor. Do you have any ideas on this? Ps my 2 year-old son watched the video with me and kept saying look papa fix it. Lol thanks again.

    • @BrucesShop
      @BrucesShop  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      well if you have done it all there is a plastic intake manifold that goes from the carb to the other side of the motor(across the top). They can leak causes a huge vacuum issue ie not enough fuel. check it out and the little rubber gasket that seals the carb as well good luck sir

      Bruce Pender correct. I already replaced the gaskets and cleaned the carburetor. But I was unable to clean the inside of the brass part of the carburetor. Time to take it back apart and do it over to see if that does the trick. Thanks again.

    for those of you that tried this and it didn't work after first try, take a needle and stick it in the big center hole on the bowl nut. poke it back and forth and get all that build up until you can see the needle through the other two side holes. also press the prime button a few times and let fuel drain out before putting this screw. I had to do all of the above. if this worked for you, come back and reply. gigitty gigitty.

      No. That vertical hole is the jet. Shoving wire through that hole is bad advice. If the hole gets damaged or altered then the jetting will be wrong and the mixture will be wrong. Compressed air, Gumout, and patience should be sufficient. You can effectively backflush the jet by blowing compressed air into the horizontal cross hole (feed hole) by blocking one side of it with a finger.

      A table does make it easier to work but after hearing what the guy above said, i am NEVER going to start one on a table, I allready check the blades before hand just incase one is broken or something as i dont want it flying into my flesh. I would take his advice and never start it on the table because when you work on things you create habits and it only takes one time to forget, then your friends will call you stubby. Like when you learn to drive, create good habits, another eg would be to always put on ear protection when operating machinary. That is a habit i wish i had made for myself. Just create good work habits so that you can be as safe as possible without having to think about it. :)
