I remember hearing one of these next to a Boogie in a boutique amp shop around '89. It totally CRUSHED the Mark III. It had so much more texture and superior tone, and the crunch had more chordal clarity. Wonderful amps!
I have a 1988 Mark III blue stripe and I am in LOVE with it. The fact that you say this amp crushes the Mark III for crunch and clarity gives me massive pause. How can I try one of these amps? I've never even heard about them until now. I've never seen them anywhere before.
@@skullkrusher4418 vht is now fryette. The pitbull ultra lead was their flagship model and has a very dry sound. You have to dig in to really get the saturation you’d normally hear in a Mesa or evh. What the OP said about chordal clarity is absolutely true. Hearing a vht/freyette in person is like nothing you’ve ever heard.
@@skullkrusher4418 synergy makes a module for the Ultra Lead. Steven Fryette himself assisted with the design. Could be worth checking out. Preamp is $400 or so. Doesn’t beat the original 120 watt head but the character is there. These amps do have a “edge” button that adds saturation but I keep mine disengaged. The active eq really shines too. Fryette has said that is responds well to the nuances of each instrument. He’s a true master. It’s not for everyone, very unforgiving with how you play similar to a classic Hiwatt.
Reza, I have never watched a dull clip from you. Always balls to the wall tube amplifier brutality!! What fun you must have cranking all these beautiful amps. The filter effect on this one rules. Big fan here.

For all those comments wondering what the status of a new version of this amp is, I contacted Dave at Fryette on a different topic and we talked about the UL, and this is what he said, "We are hard at work on the new version of the UL, but Covid made it take a lot longer than planned" Start saving your cash. :-)
I bought this amp and used it extensively for a few years. It truly is a great workhorse., Also had a cl pit bull and it kicked ass as well. Back in the big rack days I had a purple face 2150 truly the holy grail of power amps.
Fuck yeah. I've owned one of these since the late 90s after I got a good look at Page Hamilton's setup (that melted my face) during the 'Aftertaste' tour. Sold all my Mesa stuff, ordered it and never looked back. Still the best imo.
Don't get rid of it; you will miss it and there really is no other amp out there like it. I bought one in 2003 and still remember my jaw dropping the first time I lit it up. I parted with it 6 years later.....think it is time to pick one up again.

This and a Randall Century 200 are my dream amps. Such a brutal sound, it’s a shame they’re hard to come by. They’re not cheap either but they live up to their price tag.

This is probably one of the most controversial amps in the heaviest metal community. Once you dial one in, it's nirvana of expression and cuts like razor.
Andy, owning the EL34 version of this, the Sig-X model and using the ultralead patch on my kemper, I can guarantee you, if you think it is what you've been looking for, you won't be disappointed as it sounds even more brutal but just as tight in reality !

I've been a fan of the Pitbull since first trying one out around '89. Absolutely brutal gain! The only amps that come close in gain and tone quality are Bogners and Diezels. They positively CRUSH Mesa Boogies.

yep. i heard aaron turner of isis/hydra head etc play one of these at soundcheck for a small show once and i was amazed at the clarity the amp had at high gain settings. and..no noise.
It's his main amp since forever. He started with old Model Ts when they were dirt cheap (not anymore sadly!) and then he went with this beast. He tours sometimes with Orange stuff but this amp is his main core in everything he does.
An absolute beast of an amp. I remember when I first played one. It was in one of the many boutique amp shops I visited in the late 80s. I tried it right next to a Boogie Mark III. It ate the Mark III for breakfast. I thought it had a much more interest variety of gain textures and a better tone to boot. It's not my favorite high gain amp. That would be the Soldano SLO. But it's one of the best every built. I play jazz fusion so I don't use this level of gain, but I love an amp that can do this. It's like going pedal to the metal in a Ferrari on the Autobahn.
Great tone as always! I wanted to buy UltraLead, but one day i played Randall Satan which felt like Ul but with more punch in the mids and as tight as UL and decied to go with Randall and never look back.
That's cool. I played the Randall and to my ears it was typical Randall, some fizziness in the highs I could never dial out. But nothing you would hear in a mix on stage.
@@RezaMatix Ya, I was gonna say you can pick up mk1 or mk2 Herbert for around the same price or cheaper. The Ultraleads seem to be steadily rising in price now. Kinda sucks, because I want another one. Bought mine in 2004 for 1600 Canadian and I still consider it one of my all times favourites.

When I got my pitbull Ultra lead I upgraded the p50s of course and did the full stack and oh my God does this amplifier Rock and it rocked around the nation made my Marshall look like a crate LMAO LMAO LMAO
WOTUFAKA! Super chuggy? The Ultra lead. It is tighter and naturally had a bigger low end and darker tone. With the 6 band eq, you can make this thing chug like no other amp.
good player, great amps, so hard to sort out what makes up your great tone. what do you feel you get out of your Arcane Alnico 8 humbucker that a stock les paul hum bucker would not provide?
huge difference. gibson stock pickups are horrible to me. Alnico 8 is a very strong magnet, it keeps the low end very tight, lots of harmonics and plenty of output.
john doe if you can actually get in contact with Rob from Arcane just ask for the Reza pickup. 13k, there is only 1 other Arcane i have demoed and that's a higher output custom model called the Powerdozer, but it's only in 1 single video i've done online.

Kevin Armstrong That is the sound of an UL unboosted. You don't need to put a pedal in front of one. They are pretty much the tighest metal/rock amp you can get. Channel 3 of the vh4 is super tight as well.....but that is alot more $$$.
I think I repeated this demo about 70 times. UL sounds amazing. Btw, Reza have you ever plugged into Fortin Natas? I heard this amp sounds similar to UL.

Brilliant amp design. Saturated get gritty and scratchy but full harmonics
This and the Sig X are the best imo! Heavy sounding as heel yet tight and articulate. The cleans are good for a high gain amp as well!

Killer riffs and Killer amp. There is one of these on reverb, but it says Fryette across the front rather than VHT. Is it the same?

In my opinion Satan was not a fizzy as Messas can be. Overal Satan voicing was very close to UL.

THIS can definitely do Metal. But that being said I see Herberts selling for cheaper than I see these most of the time.

Kevin Armstrong That is the sound of an UL unboosted. You don't need to put a pedal in front of one. They are pretty much the tighest metal/rock amp you can get. Channel 3 of the vh4 is super tight as well.....but that is alot more $$$.
I think I repeated this demo about 70 times. UL sounds amazing. Btw, Reza have you ever plugged into Fortin Natas? I heard this amp sounds similar to UL.
