Good Video, my last visit last year I had to bring vital medication during my holiday. First step was to print out a drug list that is restricted or banned to your doctor. Sure enough I did not have any on the list. Step two ask your doctor to itemized your drug list and proper dosage. Step three is very important if you are on a 2 week holiday bring only a 2 week supply in original pharmacy container with proper label with your name on it along with proper dosage and it has to match your doctor's list. Step 4 declare your drugs at customs. I got lucky did not have to show anything and was asked this is for my only personal used. Be honest about it it goes long ways. Upon my research you are also allowed to bring certain narcotics like some pain medication you have to fill out a special form in advance and send it to Thailand to have it approved and you are only allow to bring 30 day supply only. If you are not really sure be sure you check the Thailand custom websites and also you can find a Thai lawyer who can sort you out. I always do my research before any travels.
In regards to medication, you only need to wory about stuff that contains any of the Thai Class 3 psychoactives, like Xanax. For that you need a prescription from your doctor with full description of dosage and the medical condition you suffer from and you are only allowed to bring in one month supply of the drug. Thai Class 4 narcotics, like some opioid painkillers, obviously cannot be carried under any circumstances. All other substances that are not listed on Class 3 or Class 4 registry of Thai Health Ministry can be brought into the country without any additional paperwork.
That's not what it says on the Thai consular website for the UK. It states that any prescription medication being brought into Thailand is limited to 3 months supply and must be accompanied by a copy of the prescription.
@@michaelb2388 It is true that it says so. Just never heard about anyone being in trouble for any med not listed as a controlled substance. Also, not bringing wholesale supplies with you into a foreign country is just common sense.
Back in 1991 on one of my 3 trips to Thailand that year I was standing inline waiting to board a plane in Detroit Michigan when I found some dude staring at me. Good info Trevor. Playing cards, though not illegal, are a touchy item for bar owners. They are subject to stiff penalties if authorities see any form of gambling on the premises. If you bring cards they should stay in your room. Have been visiting Thailand for three decades. A good rule of thumb is not to bring anything with you that would be devastating if stolen. Watches, cell phones, jewelry being good examples. I have a separate low end mobile I use for travel only. Ditto wristwatch. Your visit to Thailand should be about having a fun time, not displaying your possessions.
Agree, but what about the thing Trev mentioned in one of his previous vlog - about girls scoring you as a potential client? Of course it is a shallow/superficial point of view, but how can a girl gauge a person from a few meters away by just looking at him? He might be wearing flipflops, no wristwatch or an old phone, but still be a very nice (or even wealthy) guy, right?

@@willsmith39 the insurance coverage cost is mainly for major medical, doctor and hospital cost, not drugs. In fact for Viagra or Cialis , I bypass my insurance and used Good RX instead.
Prescription medication. In Australia, you have to see a Dr to get a prescription. That’ll cost you around $75 just for the visit. Then the actual medication could cost you up to $$$$ mega. As a pensioner, I pay approx $6 per each item. So if I have 4 different medications the cost could be; $75 for the Dr appt $24 for the 4 lots of tablets
I don't pay for doctor visits in Aus, it's bulk billed to Medicare. Scripts for blood pressure tabs cost me $11 per month (I'm not on the pension). You need to change your doctor.
Mike McNeil, you might not pay. But that’s about the price the Dr charges Medicare - remember you pay for Medicare through your taxes!! Personally, I have never paid to see my Dr either. DVA pays for my visits. But I know the Dr charges Medicare ( bulk billed) plus the Dr also charges DVA as well for the consultation.
Everyone here that says their medical is free is having is subsidised by taxes. No one else has bothered to calculate what that costs the taxpayer and then claim that is what they pay in their country. You pay nothing, end of story.
On the e-cig rule its not a taxation issue. I read an article on the subject and it turns out there is some minister in the government that has this irrational thing about them. It doesn't matter if its more healthy, he hates them and that's why they are illegal. Its a tune that's too familiar in the states. We did the same thing with weed in the US.

Very helpful video I have a lot of prescription medication, so I buy a prepayment certificate each year, it saves me a fortune. I always keep my medication in a clear bag in their boxes and with an actual prescription, I've never had any problems . I must admit, I put paracetamol, immodium and vitamins etc in my main hold luggage, never had a problem with that either, buy didn't realise I wad t allowed them. My last visit in January I bought my drone with me, I never got asked about it and it was in my hand luggage, I never used it though because I knew I'd get caught, it's crazy that the paperwork to fly it, takes 2 weeks to come through and you can't apply until you get there.
Can you let me now more about the pre payment thing coz I got a shit load of meds to take and I go Tuesday 11th April so it would help me a lot ! Thanks
@@aaronthebom1 Can't believe your pharmacist hasn't told you about pre-payment cert's, they've been around for decades. If your're on more than three items in three months or, 11 items in a year, it's a hell of a lot cheaper. You apply for a pre-payment cert for either three months or a year'. It covers everything, even stuff you might not be on regularly. It's all on-line but you should go and talk to your Pharmacy ASAP. It even tells you about it on the back of every script... Have you never read them? 4th paragraph down headed Can I Get Help To PAY.
Well glad I'm on my way of quitting smoking 3rd week without & in the USA I pay 35 to see a pain clinic & 15 for script of hydrocodone & every script is now faxed straight to pharmacy never a paper script in hand anymore
Got rinsed once carrying too many cigarettes! Our luggage was in the back of the taxi whilst they marched us to customs .The taxi driver kindly waited .I wouldn't mind I don't even smoke ! Lost the ciggies and a massive fine ! Lesson learned in Bangkok😢
I've never had an issue with customs wanting to look at my prescriptions. That said, I always bring them in their original containers and have a letter from my doc just in case. Not worth the hassle if they do decide to check my bag. The one thing I'd mention is that certain prescription meds (Xanax, ADHD drugs, etc.) require getting approval ahead of time from the Thai government in addition to the usual precautions.
Good summary, but the same rules apply basically to all countries, including the UK. Paid £65 for 200 Silk Cut in Heathrow duty free, which I thought a rip off. Perfumes etc are dearer than in Boots/online. On Thai prices, local cigarettes are from 70 (£2), local whisky from 300 a bottle (£7.50). E cigarettes also from 300. Any imported goods e.g. wine are usually expensive, as they get taxed at up to 200% as luxuries.
I always bring my Vapes to Thailand. Last night I was in Soi Cowboy and vaping sitting at a table and on the next table was a policeman and he either didn’t see me vaping or wasn’t bothered.
Oddly besides the e cigarettes also because batteries could be a fire hazard while flying, and 200.000 bot in cost items so far. 200 cigarettes and 1L alcohol I think also is standard anywhere travel. All are the same everywhere you travel. Especially when travelling to a third world country is 99% chance being cheaper, if you don't bring and buy in Thailand. Travelling with drugs not a good idea anywhere, even if the country your going to they are legal. Travelling to the Philippines is the same. Smokes cost about 6 to 7 times cheaper in Philippines than in Canada $16 to $17 per pack of 25 8 packs being 200 in Canada. For one example. alcohol would be about the same way less Philippines, depending what get. Any imports not so much less to local brands way less. Just think anywhere your going imports higher cost local foods or products cheaper.
Yes, you are right Trev ALSO I remember a gentleman just ahead of me in the line for Customs/Security was fined and they confiscated his Vape pen AND his gambling kit Cards/Dice/ poker chips...
Hi mate. Quick question about prescription medication... if I have my meds and documentation from my doctor for them, do I have to declare them when I arrive at customs or do just have show them to customs if I get stopped?
I used to take 80 flights a year for 20+ years. The only time I ever got stopped and searched was when my dog was on heat and the drug dog clearly got a bit excited
Is it cheaper to get hotels in person or get them online. I think Americans and other countries may be paying more in our countries. Flying in the end of January.🎉

So, does that 200k baht limit apply to personal jewelry too? What about the big gold chains Indians tend to wear? I heard somewhere that there is no limit on the jewelry a person is wearing.
To the letter of the law, it applies to everything you have with you. Another high value item that's included is photographic gear. A decent camera and lens can be over 200k on it's own.
Yeah just don't play and avoid issues
Great info, thanks, at the ripe old age of 63 I get free prescriptions, but I believe if your under 60., it’ll cost £9.65 per medication.
Cheers mate

Yes, E cigarettes and vapes currently are not allowed. But per parliament the directive to the police is they are not confiscate or issue any fines for the use or possession. They are only supposed to report the use to keep track of quantity. Recently in Phuket several police officers were reprimand for confiscating several E-cigarette from tourists. The parliament And yes the problem is they don't know how to tax the juice and to regulate it.

If you pick up anything that is not yours in Thailand it’s classed as theft, so for example a mobile phone left on a bench! Leave it alone.
Money on the floor, leave it don’t pick it up and do not put your foot on it.
If it’s not yours then leave it alone.
Yep stay well clear
I was surprised about the prescription medication Trev. I have often brought prescription medication and even if the bag was checked I never had an issue. Looks like I will need to be more careful or just take the prescription letter instead next time. 😖
Yeah best to be prepared
Thanks for the tips, I’m arriving on the 14th.
Safe journey mate
if you bring medicin you also have to apply with the thai embassy in your country.

Free for a prescription in Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

Unless it’s changed recently, the 1L alcohol rule is not just spirits, it is any alcohol. I once took 3 litre bottles of cider through customs and got stopped, they were going to fine me until i got my wife and child to start crying, soon sent me on my way with the booze!!

You need to register it with the Thai authority
I'm in the same situation, I did ask maybe 1 year ago, and was told don't need one but I'm very sceptical about. I tried to get one in Bangkok. I certainly would like some clarification whether UK license covers Thailand

In NYS a pack of cigarettes is like $18.00 a pack.
For Rx prescription drugs example my blood pressure and cholesterol most time it is free or less than $1.00. except Viagra or Cialis I get 90 pills for about $30
Wow!!!!
Yeah it's completely free. You just need to pay the 800 USD a month insurance premiums 😂
As a pensioner, I pay approx $6 per each item. So if I have 4 different medications the cost could be;
$75 for the Dr appt
$24 for the 4 lots of tablets
I don't pay for doctor visits in Aus, it's bulk billed to Medicare. Scripts for blood pressure tabs cost me $11 per month (I'm not on the pension). You need to change your doctor.
Wow that's not cheap
Mike McNeil, you might not pay. But that’s about the price the Dr charges Medicare - remember you pay for Medicare through your taxes!!
Personally, I have never paid to see my Dr either. DVA pays for my visits. But I know the Dr charges Medicare ( bulk billed) plus the Dr also charges DVA as well for the consultation.
Everyone here that says their medical is free is having is subsidised by taxes. No one else has bothered to calculate what that costs the taxpayer and then claim that is what they pay in their country. You pay nothing, end of story.
how bad are mosquitos in thailand I have to take meds for a previous malaria incident anyone ?
In Thailand the problem with Mosquitoes is Dengue Fever.
We do have them for sure
The mosquitos are so bad in Pattaya they charge you for short time.
Thanks mate
Good info, thx !
No problem!
i wonder if prescribed eye drops would be a problem as its not taken internally
Thai Gov have a website for checking prescription medicines. I had to register some diabetes meds on my last trip.
Don't think so if you have a prescription
@@Buzzinpattaya At the time I'd been prescribed a diabetes drug that is being abused by celebs for weight loss. I checked with the consolate and was told to register my drugs with the Thai fda. I have a lot of prescription medication, so I buy a prepayment certificate each year, it saves me a fortune.
Nice one mate
Nice one mate good luck
Got rinsed once carrying too many cigarettes! Our luggage was in the back of the taxi whilst they marched us to customs .The taxi driver kindly waited .I wouldn't mind I don't even smoke ! Lost the ciggies and a massive fine ! Lesson learned in Bangkok😢
ouch mate
I've never had an issue with customs wanting to look at my prescriptions. That said, I always bring them in their original containers and have a letter from my doc just in case. Not worth the hassle if they do decide to check my bag.
The one thing I'd mention is that certain prescription meds (Xanax, ADHD drugs, etc.) require getting approval ahead of time from the Thai government in addition to the usual precautions.
Smart mate
Good summary, but the same rules apply basically to all countries, including the UK. Paid £65 for 200 Silk Cut in Heathrow duty free, which I thought a rip off. Perfumes etc are dearer than in Boots/online. On Thai prices, local cigarettes are from 70 (£2), local whisky from 300 a bottle (£7.50). E cigarettes also from 300. Any imported goods e.g. wine are usually expensive, as they get taxed at up to 200% as luxuries.
Wow
In Scotland prescriptions are free, but the rest of the UK I believe it is £7.50 per prescription.
Thanks for sharing
In Scotland they are free as the Scottish Gov has paid for them. In England it cost that@@SO-lh5ey
Also free in Wales.
It's not just sensible not to leave your bag ..it's a federal offence in every airport in the world to leave your bag unattended in a airport .

I always bring my Vapes to Thailand. Last night I was in Soi Cowboy and vaping sitting at a table and on the next table was a policeman and he either didn’t see me vaping or wasn’t bothered.
I totally get ya but the next copper may not be so kind and then you will soon see
Pack of 20 cigarettes in the UK, about £14.50. Prescriptions £9.90 in England, free for 60 or over.
Wow!

Some medication may need to be approved by a Thai Embassy in your country before you bring them in. Always best to check with your local Thai Embassy.

It's amazing the amount of western women you find wanting to visit Pattaya, Nana Plaza, Soi cowboy etc. When I ask them "why" they say "out of curiosity"🤔
I was walking down patpong road with my Japanese girlfriend in the early 90s and as usual a guy came up saying strip show, ping pong, etc. I said no thanks as I'd seen it a few times when I lived in Bangkok in the late 80s but my girlfriend insisted on going. So, does that 200k baht limit apply to personal jewelry too? What about the big gold chains Indians tend to wear? I heard somewhere that there is no limit on the jewelry a person is wearing.
I guess if they wanted to split hairs they could
Im an Indian with a big gold chain trust me its not an issue
To the letter of the law, it applies to everything you have with you. Another high value item that's included is photographic gear. A decent camera and lens can be over 200k on it's own. Personally i would never take seriously valuable jewelry to Thailand, especially gold chains, it's asking for trouble even if you don't get pulled by customs.
On the medicine my wife was on metformin she was a Thai national her doctor in the US wanted her blood sugar under 100 when her prescription ran out she went to the hospital to get it refilled they wouldn't do it because Thai doctors won't do anything unless it is over 126
