Amazing. Brian Jacks was (and still is) one of my heros from the 1960s. I got into judo late in life and read everything I could about it. I came across Brian and the things that he did to get on in judo. I related to everything about him: his background; his accent and the way he spoke; and his character. I am so pleased to see him on your video and glad that he is enjoying life. Good luck to you Brian.

I just rented a nice room in Pratamnak it is 40 meters and it is on the 6th floor with a much better view for, 5,000B. It is equipped with an elevator and has a nice pool. I pay the government rate for electricity which is about half of what most apartments charge. View Dee looks very clean and they supply WIFI too, I have to get my own internet (640B). It isn't what I would call a great deal but it looks like good value. If you are on a budget and want to meet up with other expats it would be a good place to start. If I was brand new to Thailand would consider this place as a spring board.

Hi Heath. Thanks for the great video. It’s also great to see a legend like Brian looking very happy and living the good life. I’m sure he has been an inspiration and hero to so many Judo-ka (practitioners) so meeting him in person would be a great honour. I noticed in this or your other two videos on View Dee that there were a few restaurants somewhere close. Are the prices reasonable or are they more like prices for Westerners - I mean perhaps just a little bit more expensive than say a market or a non-expat area. Thanks Heath. For those on a limited budget, this place is ideal and the price is reasonable. What I like about them is they are larger rooms that you can make your own and for myself, there are ground-floor or 1st-floor Thai style. No stairs. If I was coming for a limited time at these prices I don't think you can go wrong. You are only a hop, skip and jump from Pattaya. It even has a pool at this price. No brainer if you ask me.

Hi. There's a bit of a mixed bag when people talk about expats health insurance. Most people I know have a basic cover for accidents (which you get mandatory when opening a Bangkok Bank account.), and then keep a sum n reserve for emergencies. This is down to personal choice of course. Health insurance can be expensive, but everyone has different healthcare requirements. If you stay at View Dee, you can speak with the guys there. Hope this helps.

My worry with the dark side is really just language. How difficult is everyday communication like buying food, shopping, laundry, etc. for a non-Thai speaker? More touristy areas are more expensive but the Thais are used to dealing with language issues.
