    I had a 1986 CRX for high school and college and LOVED that car! I held on to that car for as long as I could but after my second engine went bad and after being married and having a kid I could not justify putting more money into it. It was a very sadly day when I had to let that car go. :( Now, years later I am back in the Honda family with a 2019 Honda Civic Type R! :) Even with how good that CRX was the new Type R performs better than I could have ever imagined back when I had the CRX and it even has a usable back seat for family drives with my teenager. In many ways I feel like the Civic grew up with me and became more practical while also being one of the best performing cars out there. Well done Honda. Well done.

      Look at that...another OVER 50MPG car....and it aint a Prius! Makes you think....why arent they able to get 100mpg NOW, after all these years, from a plain ol' gas powered car.
      Or keep the 50MPG on todays cars. Without using batteries, hybrid systems, and paying $40K!
      Because they stuff them with so much crap, all those little motors to move all those little 'luxuries' weigh a lot, added up! It drains away any mileage increase they could get out of most cars.
      Car makers think Americans are to lazy to turn their head around, so they need a back up camera, to lazy to move their seats, so they must be powered, along with the windows, door locks, auto start, and 20 airbags!
      Get rid of all that crap, the price of the car drops, the mileage goes up, and guess what, you have to learn to DRIVE a car! We are going to end up with a generation of 'drivers' that cant DRIVE a car, they expect it to drive them.

    • @bwzffgh7
      @bwzffgh7 7 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      A non-hybrid could get over 50 MPG easily today, Marc B, IF they were allowed to build one that only weighed the CRX's 1800 lbs. Modern engines are FAR more efficient than anything available in 1986, but with modern safety requirements, it's impossible to get a production car with these dimensions down to that weight. The government just won't allow a car like the CRX to be made anymore.

    I had a 86 CRX 1.5 12v 3bbl 5sp and it was a blast!! It was soooo fun to drive and easy to negotiate traffic in the city and highway. Unfortunately the next morning after the Mike Tyson Lennox Lewis fight, I drove home and a old couple driving to church didn't see me going through an intersection and I couldn't avoid hitting them. Great thing was no one got hurt and the man driving admitted he was at fault. Even though I could have; I didn't sue and just took my car's value from his insurance company.

    I had an 88 mercury tracer 3 door hatchback, the car was actually built by Mazda, it pretty much was a Mazda 323. It had a 1.6 tbi engine, 5 speed manual, no power steering and no AC. It only weighed 2,200 lbs and on the highway I could get low to mid 40's! Although if you went over 65 the mileage would drop significantly, it was geared for city driving. It was a great car when I was in HS, although I'm glad I neve got into a wreck in it. Those exono boxes from the 70' & 80's were death traps

    If Honda got its head out of its stupid ass and started to make this again, between 15k and 20k with about 180hp in the Si, it would sell like crazy. Young people need a car to get into that wont break the bank. Honda, no one wants a shitty CRZ, Insight, or element. Get back to your roots and make small fun car people want!! Same goes with Acura, pure shit now a days.

    • @oldtwins
      @oldtwins 9 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      actually, the Fit comes pretty close as long as you get the manual transmission option. It's no power rocket but with a manual will do 8 second 0-60 times while delivering 35mpg. 15k for the LX manual. That's plenty cheap.

And I gutted the interior cause I was 16 and thought it needed weight reduction. But the 85 parts car had everything the 86 needs. But she has no rust or dents on the panels that are metal.

    Damn this was a fun car, here in Europe you could get the twin overhead cam version (I had the pleasure of driving it for 2 years), that was fast! I wish I could buy one today, but please without all the rusting issues.

    I had an 86 CRX Si and had a great time with it. It was economical and sporty and even pretty quick for a Honda. Unfortunately Hondas back then were still not as reliable as the ones today because much of the engine fell apart after 100,000 miles. But until then it was a great car.

    My '86 CRX-Si was my favorite car I EVER had! It shot like a ROCKET and was a dream to drive. Comfortable, beautiful (Black, even though I wanted the WHITE version but when one came to the lot you had to BUY immediately back then or you'd never get one!) - I kept it for FIFTEEN YEARS and other than oil changes I had not ONE repair OTHER THAN I replaced the muffler (once!). If I took it across country, it EASILY got me 49-53 mpg! WHY can't we manage that today!?!? (Even Hybrids don't match that!?) ... Sadly, it started to rust away and I wasn't able to do or afford the repairs to the body. I am SURE it would still be driving today if it handn't rusted. (Midwest/SNOW and SALT!). I have always said, I'd give BOTH my MERCEDES and AUDI if I could get this car back new and I WOULD!

    • @roddydykes7053

      BIGGIEDEVIL yeah Honda everything cheaped out on that to their detriment. I got a great deal on a ‘91 Prelude SR with a B21 engine swap, except the rust is on an unstoppable journey to make the inside of the car part of the outside. Wish they had the foresight to do better rustproofing/undercoating back in the day

      @@roddydykes7053 depends on where you live, where I live in Texas they don't rust, only if damaged. They only rust up north and by the coast as all cars do

      It was the steel they used.
      A low carbon but very lightweight it was made for the time not 20-30 years later. But..the engine would out last. Honda engines are incredible

    I had the exact color combo as the one in the video. A graduation gift from high school in 1987. Fun=yes, great on gas=yes. Quality=no....I had cv axles, several wrapped rotors, and clutch didn’t last long either. The body panels cracked after around 3-5 years. The experience ended when a Pontiac Grand something rear ended the CRX, the Pontiac had no damage while my CRX was written off, just an unsafe car period. I never owned another Honda after it.

    I had a '86 CRX and can validate the MPG numbers. I regularly got 52-60 MPG with normal driving plus it was VERY fun car (although the brakes would lock up too easily and this made the car very dangerous).

    I’m working on taking a front clip of a wrecked civic turbo and putting it in the rear of an 86 CRX basically making it a mid engine rear wheel drive 2,000 monster sleeper .six and a half lbs power to weigh ratio.. it’s probably a year build I’m using the fuel cell and cooling system for ballast in the front, I’m trying to keep it Honda, I also have a 3.5 SHO ecoboost in the cradle that I might try?? Weekend warrior inspired by Chuck Beck.. FrankinCRX.. not sure if I can implement the AWD system. Both engines are still in cradle with suspension all intact..
