Thank you guys so much for watching! A bit more laid back of a video from the last one, mostly just subjective opinions but I definitely think that Temple of Doom and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull are ragged on more than they deserve, and are both super fun movies that carry on the Indiana Jones legacy. Of course as always I'd love to know your thoughts, did I totally get this wrong? Or do you think ToD and KotCS deserve more credit? And be sure to check out Squarespace if you get a chance! www.squarespace.com/filmradar
Yes! Thank you! I honestly loved Temple and Kingdom more than Raiders. I grew up reading the Tintin comics and have always seen a similarity between them and the Indiana Jones films. I know they're not perfect films but I'm so glad you defended these films so eloquently. Thank you.
Right on, I can definitely see the similarities! Speaking of, wondering when we'll see the follow up to that, I really enjoyed the first one. Thank you for watching!
Temple of Doom and The Last Crusade get as much criticism as they deserve, and it's countered by all the people who love the "original trilogy" as a whole. I do fit into the latter camp though.
TOD is really the best!!! I think critics tend to forget that Indy is more dark than your usual hero. After all he was portrayed as a grave robber in the first one. I was still enjoying Crystal Skull until the ants and monkeys. And than the aliens... that was just to much sci-fi. If they just left it with a skull and murials than it was probably not that bad. Or maybe only an abandoned alien spaceship... The character arch of his son was bad. His relationship with him was to heavy and than toned down for the sake of the genre/franchise. I hope #5 isn't in the same line as crystal skulls.
Less and less as time goes by it seems, but there's still a fairly large group out there dissing on it for the reasons I mentioned in the video and more. I just remember as a kid all the way up until Crystal Skull came out, everyone who had seen the movies that I ever met always HATED Temple of Doom, and then Crystal Skull gave them something to hate more. Kind of like how a lot of people hated Return of the Jedi until they saw Phantom Menace.
Spielberg hated it. He even said one of the biggest reasons he wanted to make Last Crusade was as an apology to fans for Temple of Doom. I always enjoyed it so never understood the backlash
Film Rader...The Empire Strikes Back was hated when it came out too. There are various articles with fans and critics comments from 1980 on how bad the movie was. Now of course it's considered the best and one of the best sequels ever made. Guarantee if Empire were made today it would be hated even more
Jason Harshman Empire was mostly disliked by critics. Fans seemed to enjoy it for the most part. Personally, the original Star Wars is the best Star Wars film to me.
I really like Short Round. I really liked Indy and his relationship. I always thought and kind of saw it as Short Round saw Indy as a father like figure and Inday saw Short Round as a son like figure.
Late comment but seeing as though the new Indiana Jones movie is coming out eventually, and seeing as though Harrison Ford cannot act forever, I think Short round should make a comeback, and be Indiana Jones’s next main protagonist. You can see the connection those two have, and seeing as though he has been in some major shit just in the first movie he played in, it could be great.
Lojika1 Majik I’ve been saying this for years. Short Round should take the mantle and become a sort of Nathan Drake in the Indiana Jones Universe. It would be really cool
Even “bad” Indiana Jones movies are still better than most movies! I enjoyed both Temple of Doom and Crystal Skull and left the theatre in each case feeling good
Agreed. I think their reputations suffer from getting compared to Raiders and Crusade that are two of the finest films ever made. As stand alones Temple and Skull are solid popcorn action movies.
I do think people need to recognize that even the worst Indiana Jones movie is better than most movies. Few movies are as much of a damn good time as all the Indy films are!
@Adam Apocalypse That's bullshit, Adam. And you know it. Search within you and you shall find the truth you seek. Don't give in to the dark side....asshole.
As an Asian elementary schooler, watching Temple of Doom gave me another role model in the form of Short Round. I didn't find him annoying, but relatable. Probably because his character was represented exactly as he was, an asian child, just like me at the time. He acted as excited and aggressive as a normal kid would be. In no way was his character annoying or racist!!!
Yeah, the accusations of racism against Short Round always baffled me as people telling on themselves. White guilt idiots wanting to be offended on behalf of other people. Now, with how Indian and Hindi culture is portrayed is another matter and had more merit to the accusations of offense. But what exactly is racist about Short Round? He's just a kid. Who is Chinese. There are no stereotypes associated with him at all. He's just...a Chinese kid who loves his pal Indy and likes to go on adventures. People who accuses him of being a stereotype are telling on themselves because they only way they would think he's a racist character is due to his accent....which is the actors REAL FUCKING ACCENT.
me too. It's a great fun thrill ride of a movie with some really great set pieces (i.e. the crushing chamber, the mine car chase (excellent) the bridge scene at the end etc.
There is no “bad” Indiana Jones film. Raiders is the best, Temple of Doom is a great classic action flick, Last Crusade is great, and Kingdom of The Crystal Skull is a good flick. Again, there is no “bad” Indiana Jones film. UPDATE in 2023: Dial of Destiny was depressing, painful to watch, and downright bad. Congrats Kathleen Kennedy, you made the first and only bad Indiana Jones film.
Travis Starr I mean I have fun with all the movies, but it's okay to like something that's not good. Admitting the faults of something you like regardless is okay.
Fleer Ultra but does disappointing mean bad? I was disappointed with MI:3 but it is not bad. A film like Dolittle is bad. Crystal Skull is the only Indy film in my opinion which is not great. Not everyone hated the film when it came out, however no one said it was great or on level with the previous three. This alone is disappointing, but the film is still fun and has Indiana Jones being Indiana Jones. Not great, but most definitely not bad or awful. I understand the disappointment from people, but calling this a bad film like Dolittle or Battlefield Earth is far fetched.
Fleer Ultra I disagree on the no memorable John Williams themes in Crystal Skull. The Adventures of Mutt theme is absolutely great. Irina’s and The Skull’s theme are also good. I do love the music during the Jungle Chase, the Peru music, motorcycle chase, the warehouse scene...actually, it is a really good score. Not the best score of the 4, but more memorable than you put it. To each their own. I do not understand why everyone was so shocked they were aliens/inter-dimensional beings? The teaser trailer showed Roswell Mexico written on the metal case. The poster showed the skull with it’s alien-like shape. As for them being inter-dimensional...Lucas wanted aliens for Indy 4 back in the late 90s, Spielberg said no. Both wanted Indy 4 but Lucas held his ground about aliens, Spielberg continued to say no until Lucas said they were inter-dimensional beings. I thought Cate Blanchett was good with her role as Irina, her villain should’ve been given more, but I was okay with her. Unlike Ray Winstone as Mac, what a waste. I love the idea of the Russians being the bad guys, especially for the time period, but they were not fully utilized. I was happy with Marion coming back, but I wanted to see her jump on the front end of the duck boat and fire the mounted gun at a truck full of Russians, would’ve been a small moment but that would’ve been classic Marion. Marion in Indy 4 was a missed opportunity. Yeah, the film is a little dull and boring in the middle, but outside of some cartoony moments and some outdated CGI, I do like majority of the action. The warehouse escape is a fun start, the motorcycle chase is really good, the jungle chase is really good when not overly silly, and the fist fight between Indy and the male Russian during the ants scene is really good. I cannot go without saying that Indy 4 does has it fair share of problems, but for the 4th Indiana Jones it is not a complete lost. The film is entertaining, fun, Harrison Ford is still great, and it does live up to being an Indiana Jones flick just not a great one. Which for an Indiana Jones film, is slightly disappointing. To each their own.
"I've discovered that most critics themselves are cinematically illiterate. They don't really know much about movies. They don't know the history. They don't know the technology. They don't know anything. So for them to try to analyze it, they're lost." - George Lucas.
Everybody loves to rag on the Star Wars Prequels and Crystal Skull for the stupidest of reasons, completely oblivious to the fact that they're proving George right.
The term "illiterate" is a bit misplaced, George, since cinema is largely audio-visual, whereas literature is the medium of words. Yes, cinema also has words. Raiders of the Lost Ark, written by Lawrence Kasdan from a story by yourself and Phillip Kaufman, is by far the most literate Indiana Jones script. The characters are intelligent, sophisticated, and there's just enough exposition between action set pieces to explain where we are in the story.
@@kthx1138 my guy, George is using literate and illiterate in their figurative sense, where it is a synonym for knowledgeable or experienced. For example, I have little knowledge of mechanics and engineering, therefore I am not literate in those subjects.
I had friends who were arrogantly and pretentiously trashing the film for it's mass appeal sensibilities before they even SAW it, and even they ultimately admitted that moment was HILARIOUS.
"But it seems like a no-brainer to pay homage to the adventure movies of the 1950s, where it was all about the Red Menace, usually interpreted through a martian invasion of some kind." This one perspective of framing Crystal Skull via 50s martian movies is one I have never considered and has instantly made Crystal Skull a better movie in my mind. Still not good, but better. Thanks!
I re-watched the three Indiana Jones movies again recently (as in, between March 2017 and January 2018), and I felt that Temple of Doom was the weakest of the three, albeit still very enjoyable. I can cite two main reasons why I feel that way about Temple of Doom: The movie constantly shifts between thrilling action and jokes without any real grip on what kind of movie it wants to be (rectified in the next film which is more overtly a comedy), and anytime I tried to wrap my head around the plot it made no sense to me. Don't ask me why I felt that way, I just did somehow. That being said, its failures at storytelling are largely countered by its successes as entertainment. The Last Crusade used to be my favorite Indy film but now it's Raiders. I haven't seen Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in almost four years but I remember it being more average/mediocre than truly terrible. In hindsight I think the film went too far in the comedic direction while forgetting to have a real plot like the previous film did.
Lucas always said Temple of Doom was supposed to be a darker middle chapter like The Empire Strikes Back. For those that don't remember...fans and critics hated Empire when it came out. So many mixed reactions. Now it's considered the best but Temple of Doom still seems to get mixed reactions. I always loved it it. Also Spielberg hates Temple of Doom. Lawrence Kasdan was asked to return to write it and refused because he said it was such a dark bad movie. I personally never understood some of the backlash either but it's hard to follow a classic like Raiders and it's so different from Raiders
Most of Short Round's contribution is hacking his way out of slavery, getting Indy to come back to his senses, and then winning a designated kid fight. Hardly kids overpowering the baddies, or maybe I'm not remembering the movie correctly.
Temple of Doom is my favorite Indiana Jones movie. Also, it's been 10 years since Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, I enjoyed it when I saw it in theaters and I still do now.
Nice! Saw it in theaters as well, loved it the first time, hated it the second time, and now I'm just in the middle somewhere haha, but I still thoroughly enjoy it every time I watch it!
They always argue that KotCS was unrealistic, but I'd say its more realistic than the holy grail, people having their faces melted off because of a box, and a guy surviving having had his heart pulled out.
Some of the effects look really terrible, but a lot of them look shockingly good for a ten year old film. And yeah, it's still the funy Indy that I was hoping for, flawed for sure, but how could not expect flaws after that much time ya know?
Film Radar Not to mention some of the sets were completely insane. I thought some of the practical sets were cg when I first saw it. The prequels suffered from some of this as well.
Personally Temple is ok imo the biggest issue is that it’s a tonal mess and dosnt make a lot of sense when you think about it. I don’t mind the movie being dark but I don’t think it commits to it imo. I feel like Shortround and whilly don’t fit the darker tone that the movie is going for I will agree the last 40 mins are real good though but I think Temple might be my least fav of the movies still a solid movie just not amazing and kinda weak but that’s just me I’m glad other people love it tho!
I am literally muslim and south asian and I never had any issues with temple of doom. I always loved it. People getting offended probably arent even minorities.
Well, not only do you not believe in Kali, but you're not even Hindu. How could you even potentially be offended by a movie about a clearly non-Muslim cult?
@@swampcrypt I'd think anyone would know that, before they came to America and Europe, Muslims and Hindus did not think of themselves as "South Asians," and certainly did not get along. Even when the British imperialists provided them with a reason to unite, they didn't.
@@restlessbohemian26 weird I thought last crusade was better than Superman 3 given there were a lot of memorable scenes Superman 3 didn’t feel like something I would want to watch again and I saw these films on home video
@@watchforever1724 That's exactly how I felt about Last Crusade. I watched it one and a half times after I saw it at the movies because I couldn't believe my reaction to the film based on how much I loved the first two. Only the painted bridge illusion rally impressed me - hadn't seen anything like that up to that time. The script, music and effects felt cheap/rushed - done without love or passion. Was odd to watch young Indy so the movie felt odd from the start. Then they started the horrible current movie tropes that answer questions you don't want to know the answer to. This is where Indy got his scar, his hat, his whip, why he's afraid of snakes. ect. Less is more. Dad was also annoying and they had a bad relationship. Indy was already Grandpa age himself and how he was dragging around a half senile old man? I wanted to see him adventuring with his latest love interest - not two old men bumbling through stuff. "Junior!". "Aww Dad!" Felt really out of place in an Indiana Jones film. After that Crystal Skull also reminded me of Superman 4. Back where the elements I loved - (Marion! Whoo hoo in Indi and Lois Lane in Superman) -- but it was somehow done all wrong. looked cheap and unconvincing and didn't work. I don't want to see the new one. I want to imagine Indy and Marion went on to have a great life together and worked things out with their son.
I still say The Last Crusade is the best movie, just because people don't agree with your opinion, it doesn't mean it doesn't matter. Keep up the good work! :)
CarSVernon because nazis it’s the same? You’re not very good at picking battles because this is clearly one you’d lose. I dare you to write down all the similarities between them and no the villains deaths at the end aren’t even close to similar.
CarSVernon While Raiders and The Last Crusade both involve a Jones fighting against a group of Nazis trying to pillage powerful Abrahamic artifacts, these movies are still very distinct from each other. Jones is much more familiar with Nazis and Abrahamic relics which are very tied to Jones’ past and thus feel significant and are effective. The Last Crusade also focuses on the relationship between Indiana Jones and his Dad with the anti-Nazi message being demonstrated even more prevalently. As long as you can make something work well, then repurposing old ideas can become a strength instead of a weakness
@@willvermillion1025 I simply didn't like the plot. Some seen to like the Christian mythology Indy movies, I like the Black Magic cult/aliens more. So Last Crusade is the one I rarely watch
All of my friends hate them and I spent an entire day arguing with my friend so we could watch Indiana Jones, but he said: “I don’t like old movies. 2000 is the minimum”. Many of my friends also have never seen Star Wars or any classic franchise. Sometimes I wish I had a friend with whom I have something in common, but I’m one of a kind apparently...
I love these movies, all of them. I haven't been paying attention to the Indiana Jones fandom, and though I did realize that the 4th movie got a lot of flak, I didn't realize that people hated the Temple of Doom. Why?? It's great. Pulp action and adventure at its best (in my opinion). :)
When it comes to the Crystal Skull, I remember many didn't like that there were aliens. But that actually wasn't the first time Indy met aliens. There is a written story I remember as a kid that had UFOs blasting Nazis. That's pulp! :D
Spoilers from industry and other whispers ...i hear the plot is similar to most movies Indy gets kidnapped a recast son has to track him down On the way he meets another long lost daughter of indys because as you know it's all about the ladies these days Harrison Ford will be 80 by time the movie is released and the character will die in this movie and the daughter not the son will go on to have her own franchise
I still to this day don't understand the hate for Crystal Skull. When ever people criticize it they just point to short scenes, like that's film criticism.
I enjoyed the movie up until the alien reveal. It kinda took me out the story because the other movies had a supernatural element not a sci-fi. It's definitely not what most expected. I do need to rewatch it though, it had a lot of fun action.
There are no "bad" ones. Temple of Doom is good in a way different than "Raiders" and "Crusade". Temple of Doom is a batshit insane "Indiana Jones goes to hell" kind of adventure. Crystal Skull is just kinda dull, and doesn't even come close to any of the previous 3, but it's definitely watchable and enjoyable.
I love Temple of Doom, it's my favorite in the series, funny how I had no idea it was considered inferior to Crusade and Raiders until I was deep in my teens. Crystal Skull is a fun movie, definitely the weakest, but incredibly watchable.
It flips back and forth between Raiders and Temple for me, honestly it just depends on my mood. I had the same thing, growing up I just loved all three equally, it was only in high school or so that I heard all of the hate towards ToD and I've never understood it. Crystal Skull has issues for sure, but I totally agree, I always have a blast every time I watch it.
@@daniel_netzel You said in the video that Last Crusade was a retread of Raiders. I've noticed a few people say that and I think the word you guys are looking for is refinement. Sure Last Crusade is much more similar to Raiders than Temple of Doom, but everything good about Raiders was improved in Last Crusade. Indy had far more chemistry with his dad than he did with Marion and there's just a larger variety in set pieces.
I’m still only young but I’ve watched these movies since I was a little kid. For me the most important scenes In these movies are the exhibition scenes in which Indy explains the mystery surrounding whatever artefact they are after (the meeting with the government in raiders, the explanation of the village’s ‘dead’ nature in temple, the party scene in first crusade, the bar scene in crystal skull). All four movies feature a scene like this and they all filled me with excitement and wonder. That, in my opinion, is what makes a great adventure movie; a proper setup in the ‘campfire’ kind of way.
Temple of Doom contains my absolute favorite scene. When Indy and Willie are in the Trimotor and she asks “Can you fly?” and Harrison Ford who is a pilot in real life looks into the camera and you can see this little glimmer like he wants so desperately to say “Baby I can fly anything.” Before he remembers his line and says “Uh No” Just hilarious to watch once you look for that moment
I feel like the accusations of racism for Temple of Doom could’ve easily been avoided if they’d had a scene where Indy pointed out that no Hindu would eat any of the stuff at the banquet - the film could’ve done a better job of clarifying that the scene was never intended to be making a statement about Indian culture as a whole. I never got the vitriol for Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, though; I genuinely enjoyed everything about it.
ya I thought the whole point of that scene was to make everyone feel uneasy like "something isn't right here" and "expect danger" especially with the snakes everywhere while the cult is just putting on a show of normality with the British officer inspecting the palace
@@CarSVernon Yes. If it isn't pointed out as being not something Indians normally do then a lot people will think this is how everyone acts. It leaves an impression that Hindu's worship evil gods, eat bugs and need the 'loving' British to save them.
Short Round will always be my favourite sidekick. When I was a kid, I could always imagine myself as Short Round, having adventures with Indy. I love you Short Round!
When i was a kid, i loved the first 3 to death, and when indy 4 was announced, i was more than excited. After it came out, i loved that one too. Now, looking back at them, i can admit that it doesnt hold up to the original 3, but i still enjoy all 4 movies nonetheless
I fucking love Short Round. One of the only child acted characters in film I enjoy. He’s hilarious and has great chemistry with Indy, he fits the film and he never feels out of place like how other child actors his age would, he holds his own on screen.
Wait. Why are these films not works of art? I have to seriously disagree with you here. Theres a problem with a lot of filmgoers that movies have to be either entertainment or works of art. In reality all movies are art. But art can be entertaining. Which is why they are both entertainment and works of art. These films are masterful creations and should not be seen as throwaway entertainment in my opinion
I meant for those who want to pick apart every tiny little thing about Temple of Doom and Crystal Skull. I agree that they're incredible cinematic achievements, and I'M a fan through and through. But this whole video is mostly directed at those who wanna put Raiders on a pedestal but talk shit about Temple and Crystal Skull.
I think people have come around on Temple of Doom, and personally I think it's almost as good as Raiders or the Last Crusade. As for Crystal skull....the best I can say is it has a handful of good moments and I frankly thought Shia Labouf totally held his own with Harrison Ford and they had a pretty fun dynamic.
I certainly hope so, I still see the Temple of Doom haters around the internet and occasionally in person, but I feel like after Crystal Skull it gave people a better appreciate for Temple. I think it's still a total blast, better than most of the other popcorn stuff coming out these days. Is it perfect? Hell no. Best Indiana Jones? Not even close. But it's still a hella entertaining movie in my book.
Theres no such thing as a bad indiana jones film because the movie itself isnt about aliens or an evil cult its about how indy finds himself to do the right thing and how he grows throughout the movie. In the temple of doom at the beginning all he wanted was laos diamond and seemed to stumble in to something more than he asked for, it was a turning point for indy when he decided to actually follow on the village elders quest of retrieving the lost stone and saving this children, and you can see him change when he first arrived the first thing he did was try to get directions to his original destination, this has carried through throughout the indiana jones films and by the crystal skull you can see Indiana Jones’s original self the young boy he once was trying to do the right thing by getting the cross of Coronado, realize how in every movie he never gets to keep the artifacts. This even shows you the movie isnt about some glowing stones or the skull of an intergalactic space being its about how indy changes and these 2 specific movies are turning points in his life.
THE TEMPLE OF DOOM is my second-favourite Indy-movie, after RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK. LAST CRUSADE is great, but it´s not serious enough for an adventure-film in my opinion. Also, CRYSTAL SKULL is much better than most of the crap that is in movie-theatres nowadays...and, also, Harrison Ford never looked sexier in any of his movies !
@@bobbyferg9173 maybe I didn´t chose the right word ( sorry, being from Germany, English is not my mother-language... ) - for me LAST CRUSADE is simply moving too much towards comedy, especially from that point when Connery enters the movie. BUT, anyway, LAST CRUSADE is a great movie...but I prefer RAIDERS and TEMPLE OF DOOM.
I loved Temple of Doom and Crystal Skull Despite most people not liking them as much, I found them (and still do) to be an exciting and tense Indiana Jones adventure For example the parts that I loved in Temple of Doom were the Spike Chamber Scene and the Rock Crusher Fight. Both were exciting and had last minute saves The parts I loved in Crystal Skull were The Warehouse Escape, Nuketown Escape (because how else would he have survived if he didn't choose the fridge?), Jungle Chase/Fight (yes even including Mutt swinging on the vines because how else would he have caught up to his friends?), The "Big Damn Ants" Fight and the scene where Indy and his friends were running down the steps that were being contracted into the wall after removing the stone obelisks.
I was under the impression that Temple of Doom was the best of the series in a way that the original Star Wars trilogy was rated with the first film being a defined classic, the second far superior and the third not perfect but still enjoyable enough to stand ground.
You'd be surprised. The tides have definitely changed, but for a while there it was absolutely hated, and even Lucas and Spielberg largely disown it now as a result.
As a kid, the end of Raiders freaked me out in a big way, and I rarely watched it...but Temple of Doom? THAT was like candy to a Caucasian/Chinese kid like me. I could imagine myself being Short Round, in fact, I think some kids probably liked the 2nd film better because they could see Shorty as an 'avatar' for them being on these adventures. I have a few friends that are also in the ToD boat with me, while most just find the film hugely annoying (though I think my Mom would be as freaked out as Willie Scott in these situations, given my Mom was more of a city-girl).
The Last Crusade is my favourite because it’s got the most personal depth. I was under the same impression, only with Temple of Doom taking the role of ROTJ as being lesser than the other two but still fun in it’s own right.
Temple of Doom was always my favourite growing up, which I think is because the pacing of it is probably the best of the series. There’s no wasted time and the dialogue is so delightful that nothing is ever dull. Also I’m never gonna forgive the nuke and the fridge.
It was always between that and Raiders, I just loved them both equally. I think so too, it's honestly crazy how well paced it feels to me, literal non-stop fun. Sigh, I know. I mean, they couldn't have just hid him in a bunker? Or why not use that super fast rocket vehicle(whatever the hell that was called) to get him out of there. I feel like it was just so unnecessary and ridiculous. Watching it bang around like that and him just walk out? Yeah, that scene is pretty dumb.
I've always loved that the darker tone from Temple of doom it's actually my favorite from the series and I actually love kingdom of the crystal skull it came out when I was in kindergarten and I remember all the hype for it and to me it has great value
Me too, my mom love Indiana Jones, and we went to watch the Crystal Skull and we had so much fun, we always enjoy Indy, and I was veey littke when I watch it so it was pure enjoyment
This video explains very well how Indiana Jones is a homage to the Saturday morning serials, and that's why the CGI in Crystal Skull is so jarring. The live action effects, dodgy models and genuine stunt work of the other three match that aesthetic. The charm is you can see the joins but also marvel at the guy actually being dragged underneath a truck. Crystal Skull wholly lacks that kind of fun and feels very cynical in supposing it can be replaced by CGI.
Spielberg didn't even want to direct Crystal Skull. He thought the saga should have ended after the *Last Crusade.* *George Lucas* is the one who doesn't know when to leave a masterpiece alone and insisted on doing more until people got sick of it like Star Wars.
I've learned how to speed up the process, I don't fiddle around as much as I used to. But believe me, it's definitely not been easy uploading this regularly, but this seems to be the only way to succeed on TH-cam. Truth be told, I'd love to sit for a few months and make something immaculate, but it's just not feasible on this platform.
Yeah, Willy Scott can be irritating at times, but I do understand her situation. Plus, she doesn't always scream and complain. She helped Indy on the conveyor belt and she did throw a punch, causing one of the pursuing minecarts to crash.
Temple of Doom has a really great 90-minute cut buried somewhere within it, all the actual plot of the stone and the cult are great, but all the “comedy” coming from the Willie character could be cut to my great relief. It feels like they plugged a Looney Toons character into a horror/thriller.
Am I crazy or was Mutt actually a great addition? Shia came out of that movie with a surprisingly affecting performance and his relationship to Ox was touching. Seeing him break down realizing that his father figure went insane was impactful
I grew up on all of those movies and I loved and still love every single one of them. Indiana Jones is probably my favorite movie series of all time even thought it isn't perfect.
Indiana Jones has always been a favorite of mine, at times even more than Star Wars. The Mummy movies were cool until Dragon Emperor, but now whenever I'm jonesing for some Jones I play the Uncharted games or watch the movies again for the millionth time.
I like the change of pace that Temple of Doom brings. It's less formulaic than Last Crusade and since it came out between Raiders and that film, it kept Crusade from feeling stale. Not a huge fan of Crystal Skull but I don't think it's unwatchable or anything.
Crystal Skull as heavily flawed as it was still at least felt like an Indiana Jones film, and I’d even dare say that the Star Wars sequel trilogy still felt like Star Wars films too. A lot of people like to trash on the newer films they don’t understand or are not familiar with simply because it often isn’t replicating the standards they already know and have been used to. I can’t even tell you how many people *hated* the Star Wars prequels even less than ten years ago, literally *nobody* liked those movies for the most part even after The Clone Wars shows. It’s clear that newer films for both Star Wars and Indiana Jones is very much a generational thing, the only differences now being that those opinions voiced are now louder with a larger platform reach. I don’t 100% agree with his opinions, but someone like HelloGreedo fits my overall stance on fandoms entirely. Most if the discourse zoning in for a negative vibe is just mindless garble. (Not all of it since there are genuine criticisms to go through for *all* the Star Wars and Indiana Jones content, but it’s not the majority, especially with how hugely popular they are) Nonetheless, I prefer to see the positive side in most things, and honestly, o think all of the positivity that the two franchises have brought so far outweighs the negatives for me. Yes I even loved The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, (For the most part) and I’m tired of pretending I do not. I grew up with the prequels myself, so you’d think I’d be a part of that same sequel trilogy hate train as well, but nope. I have matured and realized that no matter what you do in live, some things are inevitably gonna end up not being perfect, and that’s okay. I’m genuinely surprised to hear that people have negative things to say about the original Indiana Jones trilogy though. Some criticisms sure, but outright disliking them? That’s ludicrous. It’s like saying that the original Star Wars trilogy likewise is also "bad" just because of its own sequels. All six of those films are still a technical, acting, and sounding marvel to behold no matter how you feel about them. I’m also for example not much into horror, but it still doesn’t make me appreciate the effort of a film like or Psycho any less. Jaws is actually one of my favorite films of all time and that also counts as a horror movie of sorts, so I don’t really care about the categorization and labeling of things as long as said things are good if not great. I don’t think Crystal Skull, the prequels, and the sequels are "great", but I at the very least think they’re good or decent. They’re all just movies at the end of the day, and even if you don’t like what some other movies did, they still aren’t ruining your enjoyment for going back to the others. Same thing applies for games as well, I don’t like Halo 4, and I *hate* Halo 5, but they aren’t going to prevent me from liking the other previous games. It’s all mostly a matter of subjective tastes I guess, and I’m usually up for any conversations with conflicting opinions for fictional things as long as they aren’t being toxic and too serious about it. (Keyword is "usually" because having so much discourse after everyone is trying to irl politicize everything for basically no good reason is absolutely frustrating and dumb, especially when real world politics in of itself is all dumb) You can like stuff and you can hate stuff, but please don’t be an asshole about it. Move on to something else if you’re genuinely *that* upset about the thing you’re talking about no matter what.
7:02 Actually on the tv series The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles there was a freaky as fuck campy episode that was centered at a haunted house with a villain that was basically Dracula, so they did end up getting to explore that adventure!
Temple of Doom has some of the best scenes, and Short Round and Willie Scott actually end up blending to create a nice mix for sidekicks. I wouldn’t even call Willie a sidekick, as she was brought along for the ride completely unwillingly. Love this movie it’s honestly one of my favourites for its utter simplicity
My only complaint is we didn't get more of them. It really is a franchise with lots of potential for different stories around the world. Wish they would have gotten to some of them before Harrison got so old...
Kingdom of the crystal skull is great aside from 3 things imo. 1. The Mutt vine swinging 2. The fridge scene 3. Indy feels a little too over powered at times compared to the other films The alien thing seems to be the main reason people hate the movie. but to me its no different to having the ark shoot lightning or the grail give eternal life. Its real history with the myths behind them made to be true for the movie.
1. that was stupid 2. that was INSANELY stupid 3. aaaand you point out the reason why this movie sucks: old idiana jones doing all this cartoonish shit with a lot of dated cgi. Its kinda like the new terminator movies with anorld doing dumb cartoon shit he cannot do in his primer because they keep using cgi insted of practical effects.
Temple of Doom is a difficult film to critique for me because it's one of those movies that does deserve some historical context as to why many people weren't fond of it when it was originally released. This was one of the films that led to the creation of the PG-13 rating - the other big one was Gremlins. Prior to that, there was no rating between PG and R which is why every once in a while you'll watch an older more adult-themed film and wonder why in the world it's rated PG. I guess one could conceivably argue that a family-friendly film this controversial had to be released at some point in order for PG-13 to exist considering that the rating gap was vast even back then. People, specifically parents who were sending their kids to see the new Indiana Jones film, were extremely upset with this film when it was released because it was marketed as an action-adventure, family-friendly film but turned out to be much darker in tone compared to Raiders with much more overt sexual undertones and some not-so-subtle disturbing topics. It tainted the film's reputation almost immediately and that view of it has followed the film ever since. I've always found it ironic that the Indy film many consider to be the worst still has a very prominent place in film history. That being said, I don't think it's a perfect film and it's still my least favorite of the original three - I haven't seen Crystal Skull enough to comment on it. Personally, one of my biggest gripes with Temple of Doom is that it feels like it takes forever to get to the actual meat of the story. I know there are exposition scenes when he first meets the Indian villagers and the infamous dinner scene but every time I watch it, I find myself becoming extremely bored by the time we get to the palace. It takes a long time to find out what's actually happening. It just doesn't feel as tightly written as Raiders or Crusade - especially Raiders - but again, that's just a personal preference. I don't mind Willie but I do understand why people don't like her. She is my least favorite of the Indy girls cause I just find her the least interesting. I do wish they had cut out some of her screams because no matter how many times I watch this film, I do find myself getting annoyed by her. At least she has a good scream though. I think some of the criticism with that comes from her screaming during moments that feel like it isn't warranted. There are some moments in the film where her overdramatic behavior works really well. Some that come to mind are the bug scene or her running around screaming at everything in the jungle while Indy and Shorty casually continue playing poker, it makes for a great gag and I laugh every time. I'm also just not a huge fan of the shoe-horned love story. I have never understood the hate for Short Round either. I've never had anything negative to say about that kid. He's probably the only reason I watch this movie sometimes and he gets more cheers out of me than Indy does in his own movie.
I actually preferred Temple of Doom and Crystal Skull over the other two. I come for the adventure and action and not the digging and deciphering. All four movies are awesome though
I just recently re-watched all the Indy movies, and Temple of Doom is honestly my favorite of all of them. It's a classic Indy Adventure and since it's technically the first adventure we get to see him on, it's a great representation of who Indiana Jones is and what he deals with
I'm old enough to have seen them in the theater, and I've never thought of Temple of Doom as bad. People who say it's bad are either pretentious film geeks, or super sensitive weenies. It is very exciting, has an interesting story and setting, and some great action sequences. The only thing annoying about is Willie's incessant screaming for half the film. The only one that was a bad film was Kingdom. The new one sounds terrible too, but apparently they're doing a ton of reshoots trying to fix it. Honestly, they should've brought back Short Round for the newest one and then used that build a franchise around his character as Ford is too old to continue with more Indy films.
There are no "bad" Indiana Jones movies... All four films are absolutely great, unique, and special in their own way. I can't wait until June 30th, 2023, when we will then have FIVE GREAT films to enjoy! My personal ranking of these four classics is: #1 RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK (10/10) #2 TEMPLE OF DOOM (10/10) #3 KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL (9/10) #4 THE LAST CRUSADE (9/10)
Temple of doom is my favorite because of its dark turn but still stays true to formula of Indiana Jones. I believe it has a unique set up compared to raiders and last crusade. And because it is so unique and has its own spin on Indiana jones, that’s why I believe it is the best in the series.
Absolutely love The Temple of Doom. Just because it sets a much darker tone than the other Indy films, at least I were much more taken by the story. And the Thugee theme is so good. When I saw this film in the eighties I remember that I were so frightened by those "rip-heart-out" scenes. That deadly theme gave the villain such power. You were genuinly afraid of who he was.
I'm gonna get in trouble with some for this but I don't care I'm sick of complaints, how about just be happy we got another Indiana Jones story in 2008, and also I completely agree with the maker of the video, if you understand why these were developed the way they were then it should hopefully change your perspective. I belong to an Indy fan group and some were surprised. However they did not criticize me when I put the Indy movies in my order of my favorite to least favourite, now don't misunderstand me, I love and cherish them all but... 1) temple of doom 2) last crusade 3) crystal skull 4) lost ark Just my personal enjoyment in the order they spoke to me... Here's hoping Indy 5 is grrrreat...
Don't forget the influence of the Tintin graphic novels by Hergé. Spielberg admitted this and viewed in that context all four films feel like the real world representation of such classics as Prisoners of the Sun along with the campy humor, violence, and adventure.
Why is the Star Wars franchise still a multi-billion dollar industry and not a classic set of films relegated to film history? Answer; the fans. There is, undoubtedly, a vocal minority that represent some of the worst elements of society, but there is in any fanbase. With all due respect, simply villianising the fanbase is a simplistic and knee-jerk reaction at best.
Very well done my friend. This definitely makes me want to reconsider ToD. But not so sure about Crystal Skull! :) Glad you’re getting nice views/comments.
Thanks so much Adam! You're not alone on that one haha. Yeah, me too! For the most part anyways, but you know how it goes, no TH-cam comments section is without its meanies.
Nice work. Made some great points. I've never been as much a fan of the Indy films as Spielberg's other pop classics (Jaws, E.T., Close Encounters) - because as you say they are glorified b-movies. So I don't see a huge vacuum in quality across the first 3 films. If you haven't already, you should check out Pauline Kael's near rave review of Temple. She loved that it really went all out with the zany, at times slapstick style - a more successful attempt of what Spielberg didn't quite pull off in '1941'.
Fair enough! All great films for their own reasons, but there was always something so mesmerizing about the globe-trotting adventure of Indiana Jones. I'll have to do that! I always like hearing what people have to say about the film. I never saw 1941, but I've heard it was a bit of a mess, not one that's required Spielberg viewing by any stretch.
I actually think that if "The Last Crusade" didn't have IJ's dad, my favourite would be "Temple of Doom." I enjoyed it's darkness, and as you said the triumphant freeing of the slaves. As for "Kingdom of the Crystal Scull" I think it is much more flawed. My main beef with this movie however is the use of aliens. I know that since the series of movies have allowed for the supernatural it would be logical to also include aliens, especially thinking of the era it describes. But I just couldn't accept it being anything else than something from human mythology and this planet. The aliens made it loose the feeling of the other Indiana Jones movies, and took away from my overall enjoyment of the movie.
I still consider Skull a bad Indiana Jones movie due to the high standards of the franchise but as a movie in general, I would say its an average or slightly below average movie ... What makes it bad as an Indy movie is the CGI, the kiddish goofyness such as monkey swinging. Mutt himself as a character feels rather pretentious like that kid in school who tries too hard to be cool but ends up feeling cringy... its a poorly written character, I don't hate him like a villain but I feel cringy watching him ... The whole movie just has a lower level of sophistication in its humor, story plot, villain characterisations, cinematography etc .... its really feels like the kind of things that plagued the later Star Wars Phantom Menace is infecting this Indy episode too, the George Lucas becoming senile disease. I won't change my mind like some people who are kinder to it over time. I was already a mature grown up when I watched it, I still maintain my dislike of it .... its only enjoyable if I lower my standards of taste in movies to be completely uncritical which I occasionally do .... that says a lot about its low quality .....
I love Temple of Doom. The action is ridiculously over the top (escaping a crashing plane in a raft!) and that opening starting with the musical number is fun. Lots of gruesome deaths and gross out humor too. I think it helps that I saw it on the big screen when I was 12.......
I love it too, and virtually everything about it. Nice! It was out before I was born, but I remember watching it around 11 or so and loved all three of them.
I would have loved to see different stories lines in Indiana Jones like the haunted house and maybe 2 or 3 more movies about different and wacky stuff!
Wow, this a first! NOT ripping apart the sequels - each one of them had parts that worked even if the majority of it didn't -EXCEPT, as you mentioned, TLC, of which I'm in the group that likes it best.
putting in my late 2 cents, Temple Of Doom is my personal favorite because of the well made shift and it's characters. We start out in a busy city where everything is relatively goofy (Like the chase for the Antidote/Diamond) and everything stays pretty lighthearted until we get into the temple itself. There I found such an amazement how it went from bright colors and outdoors to where the rest of the film is spent under in these tunnels and mines, at the end as they make it out I felt like taking a breath, the outside felt fresh all over again, and the tone was so dark, the look in indie's eyes as he became a sort of antagonist felt so terrifying, it was a different kind of adventure similar to the end of National Treasure as they went into the catacombs, the same feeling came over me. The characters were fun! and I loved shortie, he was so awesome, and I couldn't help but laugh at his witty comments, or even cheer when he had his moments of victory, I teared up when he told indie who had just slapped him across the face, the he loves indie. the themes felt more real but in an underlined darker sense that brought these strong emotions of being separated, or the fear of being in a helpless situation, all in all best movie incredibly well done :)
5:38 don’t think you should’ve shown face melting for that one, I think that looks quite good. Should’ve shown the green screen sky during the same scene instead
Film Radar I'm so with you on TOD. I enjoyed KOTCS enough to not dislike it. It's a great fun ride.
Wait, people actually dislike Temple of Doom?
Less and less as time goes by it seems, but there's still a fairly large group out there dissing on it for the reasons I mentioned in the video and more. I just remember as a kid all the way up until Crystal Skull came out, everyone who had seen the movies that I ever met always HATED Temple of Doom, and then Crystal Skull gave them something to hate more. Kind of like how a lot of people hated Return of the Jedi until they saw Phantom Menace.
I know weird, right?
Short Round's my favorite character.
Tanner C SAME
Lojika1 Majik I’m hoping it’s mutt. He’s indys son!
Even “bad” Indiana Jones movies are still better than most movies! I enjoyed both Temple of Doom and Crystal Skull and left the theatre in each case feeling good
Couldn't agree more. Every Indy film is a total thrill ride, with action and laughs packed from end to end.
They are like amusement park rides, not movies.
Agreed. I think their reputations suffer from getting compared to Raiders and Crusade that are two of the finest films ever made. As stand alones Temple and Skull are solid popcorn action movies.
If crystal skull didnt end the way it did it wouldnt be horrendous
@@jnnx Wow, Dudeis this Martin Scorsese
I do think people need to recognize that even the worst Indiana Jones movie is better than most movies. Few movies are as much of a damn good time as all the Indy films are!

I watched it as a kid, even though im not asian, i still related to him and really enjoyed his role
I grew up in a city with a decent Asian population and not a single one of them complained about him only non Asians ever say he's a "stereotype"

me too. It's a great fun thrill ride of a movie with some really great set pieces (i.e. the crushing chamber, the mine car chase (excellent) the bridge scene at the end etc.
i know same here, i dont understand why people hate it, or crystal skull
There is no “bad” Indiana Jones film.
Raiders is the best, Temple of Doom is a great classic action flick, Last Crusade is great, and Kingdom of The Crystal Skull is a good flick. Again, there is no “bad” Indiana Jones film.
UPDATE in 2023: Dial of Destiny was depressing, painful to watch, and downright bad. Congrats Kathleen Kennedy, you made the first and only bad Indiana Jones film.
Travis Starr
I mean I have fun with all the movies, but it's okay to like something that's not good.
To each their own.
zachanikwano if the Indiana Jones movies were school assignments, the “worst” movie would get like a B-
Fleer Ultra if you search up Crystal Skull the first reviews you see are either ok or good. Rotten tomatoes gave it 78%.
Unfortunately, Lucas displayed he was literally illiterate after writing the Star Wars Prequels.

Finally someone understands the pure comedy gold of the
" we are going to die ! " moment
It should be a meme
I had friends who were arrogantly and pretentiously trashing the film for it's mass appeal sensibilities before they even SAW it, and even they ultimately admitted that moment was HILARIOUS.
**spooked face intensifies**
Indy shaking his fist at Willy through the hole when she starts whining makes that scene even funnier.
You're right! That should be a meme. The sincere frustration and matter of factness in Ford's voice in that line is pure gold.
I never fail to wind that bit back and watch it multiple times during a viewing, even when I was a kid.
Thanks!
I don't understand the hate for Temple of Doom. It's different, shift in tone, and isn't like Raiders or Crusade that's what makes it interesting.
Same. Everything that I seem to love about it is exactly what so many people seem to dislike, it's just strange to me.
Temple of doom was actually my favorite.

I absolutely love Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, don't care what anyone says

I still say The Last Crusade is the best movie, just because people don't agree with your opinion, it doesn't mean it doesn't matter. Keep up the good work! :)
crusade is a copy of raiders, and the only movie where the herd decided they would willingly overlook this
CarSVernon because nazis it’s the same?

Totally agree. I think it was just spoiled fans who wanted more of the same and cried foul when they didn't get it.
When it comes to the Crystal Skull, I remember many didn't like that there were aliens. But that actually wasn't the first time Indy met aliens. There is a written story I remember as a kid that had UFOs blasting Nazis. That's pulp! :D
Harisson Ford is already 77 years old. The last Indiana Jones is coming, but they better hurry up.
Honestly I recon they’re gonna have to cast someone as a younger indy, or maybe have Shia come back as his son. Hes too old for all those stunts.

I still to this day don't understand the hate for Crystal Skull. When ever people criticize it they just point to short scenes, like that's film criticism.
It's boring and aliens are dumb, no magic twist, just aliens who don't get any explanation other than they come from another dimension...cool...
I enjoyed the movie up until the alien reveal. It kinda took me out the story because the other movies had a supernatural element not a sci-fi. It's definitely not what most expected. I do need to rewatch it though, it had a lot of fun action.
@@dustinakadustin Well, is there ever an explanation to the ghosts who come out of the arc?
@@yggdrasil3 Yes...the explanation being religious items of great magical power.
@@dustinakadustin Okay, and we also have aliens with great psychic powers. I don't think these movies need deeper explanations than that.
WTF doesnt acknowledge ToD? ToD is the most adventure adventure movie of them all.
Judging by the comments, not as many as I thought! But they're still out there...somewhere...lurking.
Haha, that's a fun way of looking at it, and very apt!
Charles Perry yeah, I never realized how well they explained the backstory and lore behind what there after.
Agreed. The whole telling stories around the campfire to inspire adventure is a great way to effectively set up a story arc.
Temple of Doom contains my absolute favorite scene. When Indy and Willie are in the Trimotor and she asks “Can you fly?” and Harrison Ford who is a pilot in real life looks into the camera and you can see this little glimmer like he wants so desperately to say “Baby I can fly anything.” Before he remembers his line and says “Uh No”
Just hilarious to watch once you look for that moment
Yes, but I always prefer the line "Fly, yes - land, no" from Last Crusade!
I never got the vitriol for Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, though; I genuinely enjoyed everything about it.
does it have to point it out? i thought it was pretty clear as a 6 year old
Wasn’t clear enough for me. It’s an old film anyway.
Some Animal Why does it being an old film matter?
ya I thought the whole point of that scene was to make everyone feel uneasy like "something isn't right here" and "expect danger" especially with the snakes everywhere while the cult is just putting on a show of normality with the British officer inspecting the palace
Short Round was literally my hero as a child.
Temple of Doom has always been my favorite. I even like Crystal Skull to a lesser extent. Indiana Jones has always been my favorite film series
When i was a kid, i loved the first 3 to death, and when indy 4 was announced, i was more than excited. After it came out, i loved that one too. Now, looking back at them, i can admit that it doesnt hold up to the original 3, but i still enjoy all 4 movies nonetheless
Good to know
I fucking love Short Round.
These films are masterful creations and should not be seen as throwaway entertainment in my opinion
starkingbiker B grade art
What do you mean by not serious enough? I don’t think any Indiana Jones can be labeled as an entirely serious movie
I loved Temple of Doom and Crystal Skull
Despite most people not liking them as much, I found them (and still do) to be an exciting and tense Indiana Jones adventure
For example the parts that I loved in Temple of Doom were the Spike Chamber Scene and the Rock Crusher Fight. Both were exciting and had last minute saves
The parts I loved in Crystal Skull were The Warehouse Escape, Nuketown Escape (because how else would he have survived if he didn't choose the fridge?), Jungle Chase/Fight (yes even including Mutt swinging on the vines because how else would he have caught up to his friends?), The "Big Damn Ants" Fight and the scene where Indy and his friends were running down the steps that were being contracted into the wall after removing the stone obelisks.
The Last Crusade is great, but I'd have to agree. It's almost TOO much humor, you know?
Personally, I’ve never thought Empire was superior to ANH. Yeah, it’s a very good movie, but I believe Star Wars is the best in the franchise myself.
Same! I tend to rotate opinions on Crystal Skull between thinking it's great all the way down to mediocre, but I've never outright hated it.
The worst Indiana Jones movies are still way better than most modern movies that come out today.
0:45 “Raiders of the Last Crusade”. Never heard of that film.
"Raiders or The Last Crusade" as in, I didn't feel like saying "Raiders of the Lost Ark and Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade".
Ok fair enough, but I can't be the only one who's worried about Indiana Jones 5 without Steven Spielburg directing it
Trust me, you’re not. Lol
Wait, there’s going to be a 5th Indiana Jones movie? Your kidding right?
@@baldrickthedungspreader3107 sadly yes
I thought Spielberg was directing it?
Spielberg didn't even want to direct Crystal Skull. He thought the saga should have ended after the *Last Crusade.*
*George Lucas* is the one who doesn't know when to leave a masterpiece alone and insisted on doing more until people got sick of it like Star Wars.
*Im surprised how fast you upload considering how long the editing takes?!*
Film Radar I agree, my editing is no way as in depth as yours, but it takes hours to cut down my raw clips to find the best parts
Yeah, Willy Scott can be irritating at times, but I do understand her situation. Plus, she doesn't always scream and complain. She helped Indy on the conveyor belt and she did throw a punch, causing one of the pursuing minecarts to crash.
I watched these movies as a kid and none of them seemed to be bad. Hell my favourite was the temple of doom as a kid!
You've heard of the phrase "jumping the shark"?
People now say "nuking the fridge."
NJGuy1973 now they say “taming the raptor”
I have always loved Kingdom. I think people jumped on a bandwagon and looked past everything that was so well done.
I know Temple of Doom had it's controversy but I didn't realize people genuinely disliked it
Temple of Doom has a really great 90-minute cut buried somewhere within it, all the actual plot of the stone and the cult are great, but all the “comedy” coming from the Willie character could be cut to my great relief. It feels like they plugged a Looney Toons character into a horror/thriller.
There’s only one bad Indy film, and it’s not Temple.
Crystal Skull is the only bad Indy movie, yeah.
fuck you
Stfu
As a 21 year old who grew up watching and loving every single Indy film, I couldn’t agree more! Temple of Doom is probably my favorite
You said everything I love about Temple of Doom. It's my favourite one. Still is. Short Round is the coolest side kick.
Short Round was my hero as a kid, I wanted to be exactly like him.
Am I crazy or was Mutt actually a great addition? Shia came out of that movie with a surprisingly affecting performance and his relationship to Ox was touching. Seeing him break down realizing that his father figure went insane was impactful
“Say hi to khali for me.... IN HELL!”
God I fucking love temple of doom
I never knew temple of doom was a prequel
They choose not to make more films if anything I’m fine with the first three movies
It's not a bad movie, I just prefer the first 3.
Kingdom of the crystal skull is great aside from 3 things imo.
1. The Mutt vine swinging
2. The fridge scene
3. Indy feels a little too over powered at times compared to the other films
The alien thing seems to be the main reason people hate the movie. but to me its no different to having the ark shoot lightning or the grail give eternal life. Its real history with the myths behind them made to be true for the movie.
1. that was stupid
2. that was INSANELY stupid
3. aaaand you point out the reason why this movie sucks: old idiana jones doing all this cartoonish shit with a lot of dated cgi.
This video needs to be watched more, it really gives good reasons to KotCS being a decent film.
Thanks for saying so!
My personal ranking of these four classics is:
#1 RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK (10/10)
#2 TEMPLE OF DOOM (10/10)
#3 KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL (9/10)
#4 THE LAST CRUSADE (9/10)
Temple of doom is my favorite because of its dark turn but still stays true to formula of Indiana Jones. I believe it has a unique set up compared to raiders and last crusade. And because it is so unique and has its own spin on Indiana jones, that’s why I believe it is the best in the series.
I will defend crystal skull to my GRAVE. Best Indiana movie of all 🤘
Absolutely love The Temple of Doom.
1) temple of doom
2) last crusade
3) crystal skull
4) lost ark
Just my personal enjoyment in the order they spoke to me...
"Fans" are not a good thing.
Especially George Lucas' fans, they're literally the worst.
Film Radar Finally someone admits it
Why is the Star Wars franchise still a multi-billion dollar industry and not a classic set of films relegated to film history? Answer; the fans. There is, undoubtedly, a vocal minority that represent some of the worst elements of society, but there is in any fanbase.
With all due respect, simply villianising the fanbase is a simplistic and knee-jerk reaction at best.
@@daniel_netzel I love all the Star Wars movies, but the fanbase is generally a mess.
Interesting to see you here
Temple of Doom is a god damn cinematic masterpiece and I refuse to hear otherwise.
Today at school I heared a boy saying that he saw a movie with a cowboy and some soviets... I kinda died
One of my easiest subscriptions made in a long time
:)
I don't see anything wrong with temple of Doom, I thought he was just talking about the crystal skull or some other film I didn't know about😂
I never hated Cystal Skull.. Harrison Ford was so watchable that I'm glad I saw it
I still consider Skull a bad Indiana Jones movie due to the high standards of the franchise but as a movie in general, I would say its an average or slightly below average movie ...
"Temple Of Doom is too dark and violent!"
For people who claim to love RAIDERS so much, they sure do seem to forget a lot of the details.
Yeah I know
I love Temple of Doom.
I’ve never ever heard anyone talk crap about temple of doom I’ve only heard praise for it but crystal skull I’ve heard a lot about it
Defending the "bad" Jurassic Park movies
...
Defending "all" the Jurassic Park sequels
Wow, this a first! NOT ripping apart the sequels - each one of them had parts that worked even if the majority of it didn't -EXCEPT, as you mentioned, TLC, of which I'm in the group that likes it best.
I felt that someone should take up the task of defending them :>
people actually dislike crystal skull?
Tons dude, I don't get it!
People actually liked it?
Temple of Doom was not a bad movie at all. It's my favorite, and a lot of Indy fans feel the same.
putting in my late 2 cents,
Temple Of Doom is my personal favorite because of the well made shift and it's characters.
I think that was also a weird one, as the face melting scene is obviously a classic effect, with the hat falling down and everyhting.
