So one thing that annoys me about Skyrim's daggers (excluding Mehron's Rzaor for edge lord reasons) is that the hand guards all point up. While there are some sword breaker weapons that will angle up, typically you want a guard to deflect away from your hand - especially with a dagger.
As far as asthetics, I largely agree. However, the iron dagger does have one thing going for it: it is light. For weapon enchanting utility, carrying swiss army iron daggers is one of the most effective ways to have every offensive magic effect available. Some builds don't need this variety, but I enjoy it.

I think Keening in Skyrim is actually not a fake. The aforementioned broken enchantment (can’t be recharged) is likely a bug, but most don’t know that BEFORE you complete the quest with Arniel, Keening inflicts an ability called Mortal Wound on the Dragonborn, which drains all stats. I think that was Bethesda’s attempt to show that it harms the user, as the legitimate Keening would. Perhaps the Last Dragonborn, as an extremely unique character with both the ability to communicate with EVERY daedric lord, some divine gods, the obvious Dragonborn abilities, and also documented evidence of time travel, we can assume that Keening would not impact them the same as others
As for the best in game play, Valdr’s Blade is my favorite. The chance that Mehrune’s instant kill effect is so tiny to not be worthy, but the 25% critical hit chance of Valdr’s Blade is achievable numerous times and it does sharpen well.
The seax is a famously unhilted knife, it was used extensively in Scandinavian and Saxon cultures both in daily tasks and combat. The ancient nord dagger is a fantastical tip of the hat to this century spanning favorite.
The glass dagger is probably meant more for tearing open wounds. The small ridges along it looks sharp and jagged so it is probably most definitely meant to make it hard for someone to close their wound after being stabbed. As the tissue would get severely torn and damaged inside.
You should definitely do a list like this on the armor. That's always an interesting topic in the game since everyone's list with armor os very different a lot of the time.

Knives are more general purpose weapons/tools used for cutting, slashing and chopping. The shiv is a perfect dagger bc it’s just a metal spike.

if you believe it daggers are meant to be bigger than a knife smaller than a short sword but bulky like a tiny sword so for that realistically dwarven dagger is PERFECT for that description of being a dagger
The iron dagger can also help with the enchanting skill tree; super easy to make, so you always have something to enchant cheaply for getting that leveled up…and gold selling them all. Yeah, it is trash, but think outside of the box and even trash can be useful. Ask any modern artist.
