Ebony isn't actually a metal. It's the crystallized blood of Lorkhan, and has very different properties from metal because it's literally just dried blood for a primordial being. Keening is an interesting one to consider for material because Dwemer metal is known for being significantly more durable than steel and immune to rust, while the blue crystal is unspecified but is most likely raw aetherium, sharing an almost identical look with the many blue crystals seen mainly in Blackreach, which just happen to be unnamed and come from the place aetherium supposedly was found, also rarely appearing anywhere else. Being such a special material makes sense considering Kagrenac would be given access to what he wanted and such a powerful and innately magical crystal likely had properties useful for what Keening was made to do. It's also fair to consider that it wasn't actually intended as a weapon and was a tool made for a very specific purpose. I don't know where you'd get the idea that the dagger is a fake, but everything included in Skyrim AE is officially accepted and that means we know why it works differently when we first get it. It somehow got weakened over time or because of what the Nerevarine did, and can be empowered again in one of the added quests.
As far as asthetics, I largely agree. However, the iron dagger does have one thing going for it: it is light. For weapon enchanting utility, carrying swiss army iron daggers is one of the most effective ways to have every offensive magic effect available. Some builds don't need this variety, but I enjoy it.
Putting Steel so high was a beautiful flourish of cloak-and-dagger tactics: luring us in with the milder takes then BAM! Steel! I agree with your takes, but as a overzealous mall goth I am feeling a little TOO called out on Daedric....
Funny thing is that daggers cut on both sides and are mostly symmetrical. Lot's of ''daggers'' in skryim are actually knives. Which counts for the ebony, dragon priest, elven, orcish, deadric, blade of woe and nordic ''daggers''. They still look good though.
You should definitely do a list like this on the armor. That's always an interesting topic in the game since everyone's list with armor os very different a lot of the time.
As for the best in game play, Valdr’s Blade is my favorite. The chance that Mehrune’s instant kill effect is so tiny to not be worthy, but the 25% critical hit chance of Valdr’s Blade is achievable numerous times and it does sharpen well.
The seax is a famously unhilted knife, it was used extensively in Scandinavian and Saxon cultures both in daily tasks and combat. The ancient nord dagger is a fantastical tip of the hat to this century spanning favorite.
So one thing that annoys me about Skyrim's daggers (excluding Mehron's Rzaor for edge lord reasons) is that the hand guards all point up. While there are some sword breaker weapons that will angle up, typically you want a guard to deflect away from your hand - especially with a dagger.
The glass dagger is probably meant more for tearing open wounds. The small ridges along it looks sharp and jagged so it is probably most definitely meant to make it hard for someone to close their wound after being stabbed. As the tissue would get severely torn and damaged inside.
Fang of Haynekhtnamet was one of my favorite additions of the anniversary edition and just had a good feel to it and it felt more like a knife than a dagger but that leant to roleplay but i understand how people may not like its proportions and look

This is me being a nerd but my biggest problem with most of these daggers is that they’re just knives.
