Try and have a conversation about gender with someone and how sex and gender are different, which for the record they are. However, the people who generally talk about this keep interchanging what they mean, like they suggest what everyone else does. You cannot have a discussion when they can't keep their own story straight.

(Even though despite what you add/remove, you can not change the DNA). A more in depth BS description can be found here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sex_and_gender_distinction
A great example of virtue signalling celebs like Taylor Swift complaining about gender can be found here:
      www.breitbart.com/entertainment/2020/06/27/taylor-swift-only-male-and-female-gender-options-on-census-form-a-brutal-erasure-of-people/
Taylor - bless her little heart, was unable to read & decipher plain English on the census form as it did not ask about gender but about person 1's SEX - not gender.
Ahhh but they mean the same, nope as @mrtalos mentioned, they redefine/alter/change the differences and definitions of gender, proclaiming they are not the same thing...
SEX = biological sex embedded within your own DNA
GENDER = what a person identifies as, though that person can not accept their own biological sex within their DNA, which to some people might seem to be a symptom of having a psychological issue/disorder

Not everybody's perspective is valid. Only those grounded on some sort of objective reality, not myth, majority opinion, feelings or any other internal or subjectively generated external souce. Race is a culturally constructed concept based on no scientific evidence that isn't preceded by the term 'pseudo'. Cultures aren't static entities they are dynamic and evolve over time and they certainly aren't connected in any way with ones skin colour. There is no such thing as Black or Black African culture - go ask the Tusti and Houtu. Their conflict is described as 'class' warfare and it is. Between the haves and have nots. in terms of wealth and power.
Maybe in a predominantly white country a poor white will have 'white priveledge' over a non-white, but whilst the poor on both side are fighting over the crumbs and squabbling over petty difference it keeps attention off of those with the cake, wealth and power and that's how they like it.
check out www.forbes.com/billionaires/ and you'll see that 134/200 are 'white' who only make up 11% of the world population. They are the Tutsi we should ALL be looking at.

This is me. I've been a leftie since I was a teenager and still am but I just feel lost now in a sea of pretentious bullshit and have become less and less involved with politics. It's a mixture of the bullying, intimidation Jonathan describes plus pissing competitions with everyone trying to prove how ideologically pure they are ("Look at me! I'm the best socialist because I care more about Palestinians than Ukrainians!") plus just stupidity. How did we get to a point where we are imitating the far right by denying science and labelling facts as opinions and calling unprovable convictions facts? And how hard have we worked to convince the white lads on the Durham estates I grew up on that we hate them because they're male and white. My theory is that it started with the downfall of the unions when left wing politics moved from the factories to the universities.

He really hits the nail on the head regarding mob mentality (either online or in real life). Not only is it in essence bullying, but it's a perpetual circle of shaming anyone diverging from the agreed upon "correct" opinion. I don't see how we can live in a society that doesn't tolerate differences of opinions and the civil discourse that it normally implies. That's not healthy.
And before anyone starts doing violence to their keyboard to reply; no, that doesn't mean advocating for racism, sexism, etc. But at some point, we must recognize that we're all different, don't have the same life experiences, and don't draw the line on some issues at the same place. If we factor everyone, we get a balanced middle ground. But if instead we pathologically shame and censor, that becomes targeted oppression.
Trying to reach uniformity of thought (real or perceived) is absolutely dangerous.

Having inhabited left wing circles in my early days, I can tell you there is no "agreed upon" opinion. By definition in "progressivism" anything agreed is merely temporary until you make "progress" by finding another grievance/resentment which, inevitably in some way, conflicts with your previously "agreed upon". e.g. LBGTQ+ vs. Islam
(This constantly shifting ground is what usually drives intelligent left wingers away from the left to sanity and more solid ground i.e. conservatism.)
There is in fact, bitter competition among left wingers to be, and very much more importantly, be seen to be more "right on" than the left winger next door. It makes the bourgeois activity of "keeping up with the Jones's" look positively tame and compassionate by comparison. It also drives the ever more absurd left wing claims - a sort of left wing version of the Four Yorkshire Men.

There just isn't a convenient 'pc-like' label with which to collectivise such actions. Though the indiscriminate use of 'fascist' seems to have gained ground. Unfortunately, whilst we're all arguing about what is, essentially, the peripheral issue of pc and identity politics, all the really important issues are being ignored. Economically, for instance, we've moved so far to the right, in recent decades, following the totally bogus and debunked ideology of neoliberalism, that most people haven't even noticed that the rich and their political chums, have been taking a larger and larger share of the economic pie, at everyone elses expense. Nor that it doesn't 'trickle down'. Wealth and income gaps have grown to their largest since Victorian times. The 'centre' has shifted so far to the right that anyone suggesting ANYTHING outside of absolute neoliberal dogma, is instantly labelled a 'radical', a 'loony', a 'commie' or a 'marxist', no matter how mild the policy or reform. As for 'anti-semite' it's now applied to anyone giving even the mildest criticism of Israeli policy. Even when stating pure facts.

People just need to stop being so damn sensitive. Judging history by todays socialist censored values. Discuss differences in opinions instead of shutting them down. How the fuck is someone supposed to change their opinion or even think about changing it if people don’t provide argument and reason as to why they think the opinion is wrong. Challenge opinions, debate, discuss. If at the end of that both parties are in agreement, great. If not, agree to disagree and move the fuck on and get on with your life. Stop being so damn sensitive.

He is right, we are going backwards. We aren’t saying we are all in this together, we are all the same, all human... No, We are separating people, assuming so much about entire groups, dividing people on race and gender and setting everyone against each other. The worst thing is the world is okay with this, it’s like they’ve accepted a mentality of segregation and inherent guilt, a mentality of zero responsibility or self determination. We are creating a society of weak weirdos who can’t function properly because they might cry if someone says something they don’t like. It’s almost like a religious cult.

      @desoliver9712 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@giantWario *You know when they were at an all time low? The 90s/early 2000. Where was cancel culture back then?*
      *
Correlation is not causation. 'Cancel culture' as it is known is a phenomenon unique to social media. Hate crimes have been steadily on the rise and saw a surge around the time of the referendum alongside the increase of nationalism and anti-immigrant sentiment as a political tool to galvanise certain groups in UK society. Similarly in the U.S with the Trump phenomenon, the *mainstream* support of BLM groups were in response to Trumps "anti-other" rhetoric.
      *
It's worth noting that reporting and data capture of hate crimes have become much more sophisticated and so part of the rise can be attributed to this, also given the shift in attitude it has become more common for victims of hate crime to come forward, and for their crimes to be treated more seriously.
      *
Economically, the 1990s was a relatively prosperous period, with extensive improvements in social welfare. The tipping point where tensions begin to rise is after the 2008 economic collapse, the impact of which has been wage stagnation for almost a decade, and a rise in poverty.
      *
*Where did you see people losing their job or being put in prison for racist comments or obvious jokes back then?*
      *
Your question conflates two different things. 1.) Companies have long had the right to terminate people's employment based on actions the employee commits outside of work hours which bring the company into disrepute. What's changed is that civilians are engaging in very public displays of racism, or lewdness which comes to the attention of the company in a much more exposed way, which is difficult for the company to ignore.
      *
The Crime and Disorder Act wasn't introduced until 1998 which might be the reason why fewer people were convicted for acts relating to hate crime. And again, much of the examples of hate crime that make the headlines tend to be related to social media. The rise of social media occurred circa 2006. In the case of Markus Meechan, (who was not imprisoned but fined £800 in breach of the Communications Act 2003) his defence team failed to convince the court that the video was only intended for his girlfriend as he claimed.
      *
*Putting people into groups even for the purpose of ''positive discrimination'' will always end up dividing people*
      *
What are you basing this opinion on exactly? Less than 10 years ago the department for work and pensions commissioned a study to explore racial bias in the job application market. They created CVs and application forms that were comparable in qualification and experience, half with names like "john smith" and "Ian brown", the other half revealing the ethnicity of the applicant i.e. African and Asian names. They sent out over 1000 of these to a range of companies across a broad spectrum of industries. Their findings revealed that for the minority applicants to receive the same level of callback they would have to send out 75% more.
      *
This study is one in a literal ocean of peer-reviewed research across an array of areas from housing to the criminal justice system. Nuffield college, university of Oxford conducted a similar study (this time over 3000 CV/applications) comparing their finding to several decades of field research going back to the 1960s-they found through a similar blind test that the numbers were between 75-90% depending on the sector and ethnicity.
      *
Companies which make efforts to 'diversify' their staff are under no obligation to do so-enforced positive discrimination is illegal throughout Europe, so the idea that companies have to have quotas is a fictitious lie drummed up, most likely, by right-wing media. Institutions which make efforts to ensure equal opportunities come no-where close to undoing the pattern of racial bias indicated by the studies. The case of the U.S is somewhat different because of their complex history with legal segregation and the continuous efforts to reintroduce it by far-right groups.

    • @desoliver9712
      @desoliver9712 4 ปีที่แล้ว

In fairness though, this is much more complicated than he made out. Though people (e.g. Maxime Peake) may not *intend* to say something bigoted (in fact I'm sure she didn't), they do so without realising. It's not that people in her situation are bigots consciously, it's that they have SUBconsciously said a bigoted thing without even realising it. This is really the lesson of the Inherent Association Test (IAT) - perfectly normal people have biases (racist/sexist/homophobic) which they are not aware of, and which materialise between the lines of what they say.
Even though the intent isn't there, I think it's still okay to criticise. I think it's quite reasonable to draw attention to the words people use and what they mean (throwing aside their intent or justification). I might (naively) say something racist - and just because I didn't intend to be racist does not grant me immunity from criticism. If confronted by that, I'd hope that I would be like: "Yeah, you know what, I shouldn't have said that - it's a bit worrying that that passed me by!". But instead often people react defensively (and are in a sort of denial) when confronted with these 'accusations'... and because they remain stubborn in the face of evidence, suddenly the act is no longer subconscious... at that point the bigotry *is* conscious. So the assumption holds.

I went right 10 years ago when all this started getting really out of hand.I couldn't follow the "Oppression Olympics" of the left because i believed in egalitarianism, i believed identity politics would just further and further fracture our society and was branded "far right bigot" for having an opinion on sensible immigration reform or my wish to have the UK leave the EU.
I've seen nothing but the escalation of cancel culture, just think how bad its got, all manner of comedy and tv shows partially or totally axed along with people who had "the wrong opinion"
Look at how our media tells us "27 police officers being injured is a largely peaceful protest" whilst a protest defending statues where 23 were injured was blanketed with the claim "far right" (albeit a small portion were)
And to be clear BOTH sides should have been comdemned, reported on and had the full weight of the law/police thrown at them-but i ask you, which group didn't ? The answer we sadly, already know...
Look at how when it was for the "right causes" Covid disappeared, the rules about distancing, gone....but when you protested the lock down (before BLMs protest) or the protested the destruction of statues (by the right and those who saw how dangerous destroying history was) and suddenly the media and police "remembered" we were still in lockdown.
    We live in dangerous times.
The politicians, the media/social media and police all try "outwoking each other" but are caught in a feedback loop which is destroying social cohesion for the ironic reason of fighting racism yet are facilitating its growth.

Dispite being white. I always lived my life that " your life matters" and give everyone 5 minutes of my time. Black white Asian trans male female and Ghostbusters. If I see a human needing help / drowning / car crash I always stop to help. I like to believe that most people live by this value. So the way the world has gone is totally messed up to me. I no longer understand the moral values of the world. Do I carry on giving people 5 minutes of my time or do I just ignore people now as I don't understand what to base the morals I always treated them with. Given up on humanity it's failed as people used to be people free to be who they are rather than being labels in a catalogue of types of people. You can all learn something from each other if you only listened to the people with different beliefs than yourself. It's how we used to grow as a people. Totally terrifying that everyone hates anything differently thought of. And it's a stagnant situation for us as the human race as it leaves us doomed to make the mistakes of the past.
