The trouble with comedy at present, and satire in particular, is that reality is actually more absurd and reprehensible than any joke you can make up. So all you can do is to call out the immorality and inconsistencies and downright lies and rank stupidities, wrap it into an angry rant and call it comedy. JP does this brilliantly, but aside from the running gag of him ranting in a break between news segments, what he is doing is holding a mirror up to reality and what is reflected is an unbelievably damning, sad, disgraceful, bleak reflection on the state of democracy, politics and the general state of our country. Just heart wrenchingly SAD!

      Hiya Betty.
I take your point, I really do (or at least I hope I do).
The only people in the country who genuinely want the current state of politics ... don't appear to be the most likeable of types.
(By way of illustration, have a look at videos by Alex Belfield, Jeff Taylor, and Andre Walker ... and then, I suspect, you'll wish you hadn't).
This current government got voted in because during the last election, the opposition got split between Labour and the Lib - Dems.
Cummings's cabinet got voted in by the narrowest of margins... trouble is, that's all they needed.
Just like in late 1920's Germany, the opposition was split too widely to stop the far right taking power.
I put it to you that the rest of us just didn't fight hard enough to stop the rise of the Brexiteneys.
Whether I'm right or wrong, this the clusterfxxx we now find ourselves in.Getting ourselves out of it is going to be a Herculean/Sisyphean task.
Michael Moore also makes the point that it seems to be a constant throughout history, dictators just seem to be more switched on than the rest of us. It's how they hold on to power.
Emperor Bokasa, Idi Amin, Robert Mugabe, Silvio Berlusconi, Vladimir (the Butcher of Chechnya) Putin, Jair ("the Patriot") Bolsonaro, Augusto (lovely fellow) Pinochet
      The list goes on.
You should pardon the hyperbole about the whole thing, but I'm not seeing a lot of evidence that I'm wrong.
      Otherwise... hope you are well.
      Thanks for the reply.

Once an hour you move every child to a new location down a ten foot wide corridor and onto what is essentially a "hot desk" Or do you let them mill about outside while the teacher sanitizes all 30 desks and chairs and leaves the class unsupervised? That's just a simple problem but the tories have no idea because they didn't go to those kind of schools. Excellent Pie!

Yeah, we were told a lot of things that were utter cobblers... I had major reservations about some of the people in Corbyn's shadow cabinet, but I'm in no doubt that we'd be in a better place right now if the election had gone the other way. In fact I think the only thing Trump ever said that I actually agreed with was when he referred to Boris Johnson as "Britain Trump" - that's exactly what he is: a populist buffoon who doesn't know how to take the job seriously and demeans the office on a daily basis.

@@jamesturner2914 tbh, alot of his politics didn't matter. The way he was vilified in the media was outstanding tbh. One of his things was to re-nationalise the railway, so they are better maintained and cheaper. Id much prefer someone whos empathetic than someone whos simply pathetic, boris may not be the buffon he is made out to be but still. I think there's a bigger reflection of media portrayal than anything else. For example, my grandad believed he wanted to privatise the NHS, this is simply untrue. Alot of people I have spoken to that get their news from Facebook and TV - I asked them what sources they used - tended to swing to bojo, a few people I spoke to looked to bojo because of his dad.
I don't think it necessarily matters what some parties politics actually are. Rather, how the media portrays them and who the media supports. Even the guardian, a typically Labour supporting paper put out a tonne of articles on corbyn being anti semetic despite clearly not being so.
Then we also have the ridiculous fact that parliament is set up that leaves different parties without representation. IE the brexit party had 0 representation despite having votes - that's a problem. People beleive its either labour or torie mostly. Did you know that the majority of Scotland voted SNP? The majority of Wales voted Labour aswell. Yet England gets what England wants. The amount of people in my age group who were denied the possibility of voting despite being registered for months. (I'm 21). Also, there's a few small town areas where votes went missing from. Also another town that was in Wales had 3000 postal votes despite only having 1000 residence living there. I can look for the source but I probably won't find it cause its ages ago now sorry!
Also sorry that went very ranty and long. I just think it's not really due to the actual policies that parties have. Majority of it is media portrayal and misinformation that's spread online. Then there's the huge problem of fair representation for smaller parties, fair representation for the countries (I don't think it's fair that Scotland, Wales and Ireland alike are literally treated as second class votes). Then all the problems with voting both in polling Stations and in postal votes. I think alot of it is more rigged then we realise, there's so many problems that contribute to a whole mess and we end up with, well, this government that is a catastrophic embarrassment.
Kier starmer, from what I've seen so far is a good combatent for Bojo. Let's hope it sticks and we don't see a tonne of vilifying papers comming out in the next few years.

Jonathan hasn't yet worked out that the coronovirus data is not worth looking at. The only data of any value is total deaths by country. Infection rates depend on how many tests you do and flawed tests. Death by coronovirus depends on how they are recorded, and flawed tests. This is not unique to the UK btw, each country has it's own hysteria salesmen who can smell a huge chunk of public money coming.

The ONLY thing wrong this this rant is the point about the highest deaths or death rate in the world via covid. The way we class covid deaths is different to other countries. We have it as died with covid, not of covid. Most people dying are on their last legs already, covid flicks them off. Other countries have died OF covid whereby the people mentioned above are not included in the figure, hence a much lower number of deaths but still a higher number of case per death. Thus why the mortality rate of corona seems to vary country to country.
Spot on with everything else tho. This has nonetheless been shamefully handled.

I'd heard something recently tho about how the care home covid deaths were left off the official figures in order to avoid revealing a significantly higher number of deaths. This is anecdotal, coming from me, bear in mind. I can't recall the source, whether it was the BBC or what. I could look.
Just wondered whether you'd heard about this, and whether any thoughts on it?.......
