I love the pioneer woman fabrics. They are no longer available at my Walmart. Last year I bought two different lines. I have so much fabric to make several quilts. I’ve made a couple of charity quilts. The money I used to buy the pioneer woman fabric was a refund from a fellow in my zoom Bible Study group. We went in on a school supply project together last year and so he sent me a check to pay for his part of it. I took that money and bought fabric at Walmart. You can imagine how how far his money went. Fast forward to this year, his wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. So I made her a quilt out of the pioneer woman fabric and got it into the mail to her. Oh my goodness, what a surprise that was, and how appreciated.

Waverly is NOT a Walmart brand of fabric. The company was founded in 1923. It was purchased in 2008 by Iconix Brand Group. It's a family of brands, which includes Waverly Inspirations (available at WalMart). I have been purchasing Waverly fabric for well over 40 years. It's only been in the last 10 years or less that I have seen it at WalMart.

I don't go inside Wal-Mart very often, but I do curbside grocery pickup at WM every week. I love that I can include thread, basting spray, etc., with my grocery order without going inside the store or making a special trip to JoAnn. I do a lot of charity quilting and I use Waverly Inspirations solids for backing. Affordable, 100% cotton, feels good and comes in a myriad of colors. One of the WM stores in my town has bolts of fabric, and once in a while I'll pick up backing fabric there. However, the department is usually unmanned, and getting someone to cut takes a long time. If I don't need the fabric right away, ordering online is a better solution for me, by-the-yard or in pre-cut yardage. I just have to plan ahead and wait for the mail.

Was in our local Walmart Thursday and was told they were going to stop selling bolt fabric. He said all they would be carrying precut only and that was suppose to be by the end of the year. He cut my fabric and it was already on clearance. I reminded him they tried this years ago and it didn’t go over and he said yes but this time they are planning on removing the cutting table. It took 3 people coming by and calling for someone to come to the fabric table. He made asked if I had hit the button and I said no , because they had removed the help button while he was off. He then stated well they’ve started already. So I figure we need to let Walmart know we want to keep our fabric by the bolt.

Enjoying this video; however, a word about the packaged Pre-Cuts…, jelly roll specifically. Do not buy the jelly roll strips - period. They are poorly cut and they are bowed. I managed to make a table runner, but it was challenging and had a lot of waste. The same holds true for the JoAnn’s store brand for jelly rolls. The fat quarters and yardage, pre-cut yardage fabric are pretty good and I agree with you on those. About the thread, it’s okay thread, but be aware, you might need a slightly larger machine needle because it is a little thicker thread and will add bulk. Ask me how I know. That said, if that’s all you can afford, go for it. I will say, that I do use some of the fabric from Walmart as well as JoAnn’s. Walmart has come such a long way with their fabric quality overall. I hope you’ll continue to talk about places where you can purchase affordable fabrics and supplies. Thanks!!

I do buy the Coats and Clark thread at Walmart when they put them on sale, got 10 white and 5 black for 0.50 each. I would NOT buy the "bundles" of multicolored sewing thread at Walmart again; I did get some and they kept breaking in my machine. Coats and Clarks is not expensive but great quality. I purchased the entire bolt. You mentioned Pioneer Woman items, I found mugs for 50 cents each. I love the price checker on their app. Love your videos.

My local Walmart has a larger fabric and yarn section than yours. Also, note that you can order larger yardage amounts on line if you make note of the fabric specifics. Their cotton batting is a great price and I have purchased it on many occasions. Also, their upholstery foam forms are great price too. They sometimes have wide backing fabric on the bolt as well. Pricing is generally competitive or cheaper!

The ROM, especially the dinosaur exhibit is a big hit with kids. The St. Lawrence Market on a Saturday morning for a Carousel Bakery Peameal on a Bug for breakfast is a satisfying and reasonably priced breakfast. Follow that with a stroll along Front Street westward to see the Flat Iron building and behind it is Berczy Park with it's famous 'dog fountain'. Watch for the cat, watching the bird easter egg. Easy afternoon, is a trip to the Beach/Beaches, walk the boardwalk, take a swim and then wander up to Queen street (a block away) and have a dinner on a patio. (This is my neighbourhood so I can tell you that there's plenty of decent places to eat). Unless your heart is set on it, then skip the CN Tower and if you're coming by or have access to a car, Niagara Falls is an hour away, Niagara on the Lake has the butterfly conservatory and peaches/corn are in full swing in the next few weeks. Anything else you want to know (cuz I just stumbled on to your channel) hit me up.

I have always quilted my own quilts. I put on a walking foot and do a straight stitch between all blocks horizontally and vertically to stabilize the quilt sandwich. You cannot see these stitches if you use a thread that is neutral like a cream or beige. Then you can remove some pins and quilt however you are going to. I even do this is straight line quilting. I don’t get tucks on back or front when I do this. Good luck!

Hand quilting can be a beautiful way to finish your quilt! It adds a personal touch and allows you to enjoy the process. I recommend trying a simple running stitch or even some decorative stitches for added flair. a lot of people "quilt by check" and mail their tops to a longarm quilter to finish for them 💕
