    They have an issue of him not having to face the consequences at the end, but the man has spent the entire day with the regret of his actions and the existential dread of the fact that if he cant get his wife to love him again, not only will he die but his kids have no chance of ever existing.

      @@FearlessGamer27Not only that but he'd been clearly bottling all that in for a long time. The longer you bottle your feelings up like that, the messier it's gonna be when it finally bursts out.
      Honestly, I feel the movie should've had Fiona remember their argument, not just so he apologises to her, but so that she can then suggest they take a vacation while they find someone to watch the kids. Burnout is a terrible thing and there's nothing wrong with wanting to just take a small break, even from your family, just to unwind. It's understable that Shrek wanted just one day to himself, the problem wasn't that, it was getting it from a shady person and not even discussing it with Fiona.

    It seems like your guys' biggest gripe with the movie is Shrek not facing consequences for his actions, but the separate timeline is exactly that. Shrek had to deal with the consequence of making a deal to have the life he claimed he wished to want back only to regret it immediately when it resulted in losing his family and friends. Not to mention the looming threat that Shrek and his kids would cease to exist if he doesn't fix everything before time ran out

      He quite literally made a sketchy ass deal with a known scammer no amount of dealing with the consequences will make him likeable because he made a blantly stupid choice to trust a scammer like how am I supposed to feel any sort of sorry when he makes a choice to trust a scammer..
      Hope me reiterating the same point 3 times isn't too annoying its just Shrek in this movie is just blantly made stupid cause any normal intiligent creture would've seen the red flags and bailed on the deal..

The only leeway grandma would get is if she had some mental probelms due to old age or somthing similar but at that point she shouldn't be in control of her money lol
      I would give Shrek more leeway IF it wasnt clear everyone knew Rumple was a scam artist fuckin Pinocchio called him out for his shitty deals in the first few minutes and Shrek has been around enough magical beings to know when somethings fishy pretty sure even in the scene when he signed the deal he was suspicious then it all just went away within seconds of being promised something he deeply wants whitch should have big one big ass red flag and again it would be more believeable if seemingly everyone but Shrek didnt know Rumple was a untrustworthy person. This movie is super underrated, and a way better ending than Shrek the Third. Yes, what Shrek said to Fiona was horrible, but come on. Everyone says things they don't mean when they're that upset.
    This is a story about appreciating what you have. And sometimes people just don't realize what they have until it's gone. As soon as Shrek sees his daughter's toy in his pocket and cries for the first time, he realizes how wrong he was. And he faces the consequences of his actions over the rest of the movie, thus gaining a new appreciation for the life he had. He was redeemed.
    Also, Shrek freeing the Ogres was NOT manipulation, it was a selfless act. He realized he'd never win Fiona back, so he figured the least he could do was free her people, at the cost of never seeing her again and, when the sun rose, his life. He had no idea about the "all ogre" loophole.

      I didn't understand calling the thing Shrek did with freeing the other Ogres manipulation, because on one hand you can kinda see it as technically manipulation, but then wouldn't every nice thing someone does be considered manipulation by that standard?
      It's only manipulation if you do it with malicious intent by trying to win someone over to benefit yourself, but Shrek didn't do that

    So you really have to pay attention to the wording the villian uses because his deals are very much like monkey paw/genie rules, where there is some twist or purposeful manipulation of the language. The deal he made with the king and queen, was for their 'problems' to disappear. Well if they no longer exist, they don't have any problems... See what he did there?

    • @itsthekyle8841
      @itsthekyle8841 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The way I look at it, I think his wording of “all your problems will fade away” was referring to the fact in the end they were the problem. THEY locked Fiona away in the tower, and THEY chose to keep her there until someone could break her curse. Fiona is the same person both as an ogre and a person, so it’s not to protect anyone. And they easily could have hid her away at night and nobody would have batted an eye, but they made the choice to lock her in the tower despite a world of other options. The King and Queen were the cause of their own problems, thus, they were the ones to fade away, rumple has his kingdom, and he never ended Fiona’s curse because of his crafty wording. Also we have a king and queen here, they could organize a wedding for her daughter to marry a prince, and if we are to believe whatever prince saved her was her true love as Fiona claimed, then it would essentially work the same.

    Can we all please appreciate how good of a Villain Rumplestiltskin is (sorry if I spelled the name wrong)? He never outright lies to anyone, and uses vague contracts to get what he wants. Like for Shrek signing the contract, he never lies to Shrek, he outright tells him he will give him his old life back, if he removes one day of his life, but never specifies which day. So having the day he was born be removed, removes many things from the OG Timeline.
    1. It removes Shrek saving Donkey, which leads to Donkey being enslaved.
    2. It removes Shrek saving Fiona, and since no one came for her in time, she was a permanent ogre and was exciled.
    3 (the best one). Since Shrek doesn't exist, there is no reason for the King and Queen not to sign the deed to Far Far Away, which, thanks to Shrek's absense, Rumplestiltskin now rules Far Far Away. It's such a good plan.

    So just for some clarification, on why Shrek was acting a bit different could be from his own relationship with his parents. One we found out Shrek's father tired to eat him at one point. (in Shrek one i think) Also is Shrek the musical which gives us Shrek's backstory we find out his parents had him leave their house at the age of 7 so he had no true loving parents with him he has been on his own the only way to live was to be scary. IN a comic story we find out that Shrek's parents told him there was no place for any non terrifying ogre in their family. So Shrek's mentality was because he was raised to be terrifying through and through but never to be a loving father. So that's why that fact that he was not scary anyone messed with him so much.

      Following the success of Shrek 2 in May 2004, then-DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg revealed that the Shrek story had been outlined into five films almost from the beginning. "Before the first one was finished we talked about what the whole story of Shrek is, and each of the chapters answers questions about the first movie and gives us an insight," said Katzenberg. "Shrek 3 and 4 are going to reveal other unanswered questions and, finally, in the last chapter, we will understand how Shrek came to be in that swamp, when we meet him in the first movie."[11] After the release of Shrek the Third in 2007, Katzenberg announced that the fifth film would be released in 2013.[12]
      In May 2009, DreamWorks announced that the fourth film's title would be Shrek Forever After, indicating that it would be the last in the Shrek series.[13] Later in 2009, that was confirmed by Bill Damaschke, the former head of creative production at DWA, with him saying: "All that was loved about Shrek in the first film is brought to the final film."[14]
      Josh Klausner, one of the writers of Shrek Forever After, explained in 2010 the script's evolution: "When I first came onto the project, it wasn't supposed to be the final chapter - there were originally going to be five Shrek movies. Then, about a year into the development, Jeffrey Katzenberg decided that the story that we'd come up with was the right way for Shrek's journey to end."[15]
      In February 2014, in an interview with Fox Business, Katzenberg hinted that a fifth film could still be made. "We like to let them have a little bit of time to rest," he said of the characters. "But I think you can be confident that we'll have another chapter in the Shrek series. We're not finished, and more importantly, neither is he."[16]
      On June 15, 2016, after NBCUniversal purchased DreamWorks Animation for $3.8 billion, NBCUniversal CEO Steve Burke discussed plans to continue the franchise, as well as other DreamWorks films.[17][18] In July 2016, The Hollywood Reporter cited sources saying that the fifth film was planned for a 2019 release.[19] In September 2016, Eddie Murphy confirmed that the film was expected to be released in 2019 or 2020, and that the script had been completed.[20]
      The story for the film was written by Michael McCullers, based on his own idea.[21][22] When asked about the script in March 2017, McCullers said it featured "a pretty big reinvention" for the film series.[23] On November 6, 2018, it was reported by Variety that Chris Meledandri had been tasked to be the executive producer of both Shrek 5 and Puss in Boots 2, with the cast of the previous films potentially returning.[24][25]
      In April 2023, Meledandri revealed that a fifth film was still in talks with the original cast expected to return.[26][27]

    Here's why I think Fiona didn't get saved:
    In the first movie Lord Farquaad sent other knights to rescue Fiona and bring her back to him. My guess is they probably all failed and he gave up and looked for another princess. And Prince Charming didn't rescue her because at the beginning of this movie Fiona's parents were losing their trust in the Fairy Godmother (who was Prince Charming's mother). In the second movie it was shown that she made a deal with Harold, she'd help them break Fiona's curse if her son became her true love.

      Thats why the movie took the time to show you him relearning what he lost and him paying for it.
      He then reappears as he screamed and the joy and love in his face is the theme of the movie.

But after you guys pointing out why it happens, it does kinda ruin the motivation to root for Shrek. I mean I can kinda get losing your temper and blowing up, but maybe not the specific thing that he said lol. Idk for me this one is depressing and kinda deep, just cause thinking about if you're life was ripped away is sad, but you're right he's the reason it happened lol. It was just as much as his fault as it was Rumple's. It might be crazy, but I kinda get the “looks like a video game” thing, but more in the movement department than anything else. Like they look about the same as other ones, maybe a smidge better, but whenever they move, example Fiona and Shrek sparing/romancing, it looks like it’s missing some fluidity like theres no in-between frames and just key frame 1 snapping into key frame 2. Obviously, the whole movie’s not like that, but it just feels like it’s happening more than it should in the 4th movie of a franchise like this. Either that, or I’m going nuts like the rest of them. It's interesting to think about how Shrek's journey in this movie is pretty similar to Puss' in The Last Wish! Maybe that's why it's so good, at least in my opinion.
    I think for a lot of people, Shrek 4 definitely helped redeem the franchise after Shrek 3. It's the most emotional Shrek movie there is in my opinion (Puss' movies are their own separate things to me).
    But for real, Puss and Shrek both go through their own experiences of mortality and learning to value what you have before it's all gone. And both of which have heavy focuses on earning back the love of their partners (Shrek had to prove his love to Fionna who doesn't trust him, and Puss had to earn back the love of Kitty who doesn't trust him).
    In the end, both Shrek and Puss realize they already had what they could ever wish for, and choose to appreciate their family and friendships over a life of solitude.

    I have mixed feelings about this movie, mainly because of the reason for why events unfolded the way they did. This all basically started because Shrek missed being a feared and monstrous ogre. But isn't that what he use to hate being, back in the first movie? Yeah he enjoyed scaring villagers every once in a while when they came knocking at his door, and enjoyed the solitude in his swamp. But in that same movie, he specifically told Donkey how he didn't like being hated and feared and misunderstood by others simply because he's an ogre.
    "They judge me before they get to know me." was the exact line he told to Donkey in the first movie, and expressed beforehand what his lifestyle was like and how he seemed to dislike it; constantly being feared and hunted, people hating him simply because they thought he was nothing more than a monster. And clearly, as we've seen, he's more than that. So I don't understand why he suddenly wants to go back to such a life. I get he wants peace and quiet, even if for a little while like a vacation or something, but he shouldn't have to be alone and hated again just to get that; especially since it conflicts with and contradicts his whole character.
    And it feels like my point is made even more prevalent when Shrek apparently stands by what he said to Fiona, about wanting things to go back to the way they use to be BEFORE he rescued her from the Dragon's Keep. Like, what?! He's basically wishing he had never met his wife nor had a family with her. Yeah ik, people say horrible things in the moment that they'll immediately regret. But for someone to stand firm by those horrible things said after saying them? Especially someone like Shrek with all he's been through? That's not right nor makes no sense.
    Sorry for the somewhat long comment. Just wanted to throw my thoughts in for some constructive discussions, or simply to air it out.

    • @indie_gamer7
      @indie_gamer7 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I think it's more or less how he misses when he wasn't know by everyone and didn't had to have responsibilities, we all feel like that were we think "man i wish i could go back in the day" because we think things were somehow better before, without thinking.
      Maybe he liked the tranquility of it all, maybe he liked just doing a little bit of trolling every once in a while (in Shrek 1 and 2 we can see him running and spooking people for fun)

    • @StargazerZ99
      @StargazerZ99 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@indie_gamer7I don't think it was ever about responsibility in any way.
      But I get the idea of "maybe things were better in the past at some point". But to wish to go all the way back before you met your significant, let alone before having kids with them? And even telling your significant other that to their face?? That's just messed up and doesn't really fit well here, at least for this character and the previous stories told so far.
      And I get wanting to mess around with villagers and other people from time to time. It has been shown in 1 and 2. That part's fine. But the whole thing about being feared, hated, and misjudged is something i remember Shrek in the first movie had expressed about. It seems like the theme of the first movie was "Don't judge a book by its cover", which obviously makes sense for Shrek but also quite a few characters in the first movie.

      @@StargazerZ99 I mean, he did this wish after getting angry, while in anger you say things you don't actually mean or want things you don't mean to, I had that and saw people who said similar things to people and wished them in anger, but after a while felt bad and apologized.
      Maybe if Shrek had taken longer to think he would l've gone back and apologize when he calmed down, but Rumpen went to him while he was in this angry state.

      @@indie_gamer7 I'm aware of that and I get he was upset. And sometimes, when someone says something out of anger or whenever their emotions get high and tense, when they say something they don't mean, they don't immediately realize what they said. So it would take a bit of time for them to realize what was said, and regret it and apologize for it later. But there has to be a line drawn here for that, like an extent to how far things can be said by someone before they realize they messed up. Like, idk how Shrek didn't immediately realize how horrible what he said was and immediately regretted it then and there, and apologize to Fiona right after saying it. Idk, that's just me I guess.
      You are right though, if Shrek had just taken the time to think things over, I'm sure he would've gone back and apologized to Fiona after calming down, and realize how wrong he was for what he said. And yeah, Rumpel took advantage of the situation right away.

      @@StargazerZ99You seem to forget that Shrek is not good at expressing his feelings or apologizing and he's also very stubborn.

      A lot of people enjoying it doesn’t mean we have to. Sometimes we just don’t like things, not like we’re telling people they still can’t enjoy it
