You might take a look at statistics involving warranty claims. Less than 10% of people will make a claim under warranty. They also send out a refurbished unit with a 6-month warranty thus for ending your warranty. Keep in mind a lot of the other vacuums and on the market have 7 and 10 year warranties.
the only reason I even own a shark is for the collection. the power lift away is really nice as you get the convenience of a canister in an upright form factor. really wish other brands would adopt this type of feature. also PLEASE in a future video use the studio microphone and just lift a shark up and then lift a sebo up by the handle. the shark creaks constantly. also thank you for the help, I decided on a sebo e3
Was just on the line with shark. I know exactly what's wrong with it and could fix it myself but I don't have the right bit for their screw. They said to replace it I need to cut the power cord on a video call with them in order to replace it. Under warranty
I have gone through 2 of these pueces of shite in the last 4 years. There is a little .99 cent switch that turns the brushroll on and off that frequently breaks after 18-24 months of use. I paid 400 dollars EACH for these machines in the last 4 years, and as I write this one is in the landfill and the otherone is headed there.
I repair and then sell vacuum cleaners as a side line and after replacing a cable on a NV601UKT this morning decided it would be the last Shark, Everything was cracked or worn. Biggest reason is parts availability as mentioned in the video but also how time consuming and awkward they can be, Will be sticking to Numatic and Sebo from now on plus any classics like Turbopower II and Juniors.
Mine has a tipping hazard flaw where it collapses flat if the navigation angle is wrong. It hit me in the face and almost took my teeth out. Their service support was rude AF when I filled a consumer complaint. These vacuums are just badly engineered.
I wish I would have watched these videos before we purchased one of these to be used in our church. Front brush got bound up and has stopped working. Feels like stripped gears on the drive. Was going to consider repair, but just don't think it is worth fixing. Thanks for the information.
Please do a bag vs bagless video. It baffles me how so many people believe the 'bagless=better' PR. I swear half the dust ends up on the floor, on me and in my lungs any time I empty a bagless vac. I switched to a shop vac with a HEPA filter bag and have never regretted it. Makes switching between vacuum, blower & wet pickup so easy. It's also kind of nice when the inside of your vac is so clean, and the outside doesn't get covered in dust every time it needs to be emptied. That wet/dry shopvac with a blower was the cheapest vacuum I've ever bought, and the best by far. I only bought that one because it's a canister vac with a BAG! It's annoyingly hard to find these days, unless you buy workshop vacs or high end canister vacs. My cheapo little shopvac with double hepa filters somehow still has stronger suction than my commercial spitwater canister vac with a thin bag shaped filter (no bag) and a motor the size of the whole shopvac. My disposable hepa bag even took on some broken glass, and still holding up strong.
Hi i just bought a Shark Navigator lift away. And it dims my lights and it has tripped the breakers. Shark customer service told me I need to call an a electrician to check my house electrical panels. They said it was my house that needed to be fixed.
Thanks for warning me when I should make a choice for buying this model of vacuum. So many things or wrong. And for that amount of money I can buy a much better one. ( I own a Kirby since 1993 ) More American brands are available in The Netherlands, since Amazon has arrived in our country.
I was thinking about getting a Shark vacuum but when I went to Walmart the other day to see how they feel, the vacuum was so flimsy and it even toppled over. I couldn't find Dyson at Walmart so is that a good vacuum?
The biggest design flaw in all shark hoovers is the cooling of the motors they have absolutely no cooling what so ever when I tried to fix my old one the motor is wrapped in felt and this is terrible for cooling and there is a seal so no air is travelling past the motor for cooling
This You are right, and I read that before we bought..I can feel when too hot so I take a needed hour break for myself. Sit in my recliner sip on cold water and think about things important to me. Like paper plates, toilet paper, lube my wheel chair etc. Also collect some humor for my next birthday when I turn 81.
I wish I would have seen this video before I spent $400 on a vaccume that has a non removable roll! The bright engineer who came up with that should be FIRED!
I just bought a Shark the cz351. I hope it lasts. I bought it for one rug, one couch, the kitchen and dusting the the ceiling moulding/walls. The rest of my small 1000sq ft home has wood floors I use a microfiber on. I really hope it lasts
Owning a vacuum store and being a doctor, I don't recommend any bagless vacuum let alone Shark. If a customer brings it into our store, we take it to the back and throw it in the dumpster. We also do this with Bissell, Dirt Devil, and Eureka. Sharks are E-Waste, meaning that when something in the motor goes bad, it will not work, and you throw it away and replace it.
Now this all makes sense to me on why Shark isn't the greatest. Wow I learned something new today! Thank you so much for this video, I didn't realize all these problems.
Great video. Thank you for explaining the technical aspects that are wrong with Shark. I used to have one but then I returned it. I returned it because the cord kept twisting and I just feel like it was a matter of time it will stop working altogether. It twisted terribly, worse than a typical vacuum. What I did like about the vacuum was the powered lift away on a light vacuum. I now have a Sebo Felix, yes it has a lift away but it is a much heavier vacuum. I really wish commercial vacuums were lighter but that’s another subject. Maybe you can do a series “everything that’s wrong with ___”
This video helped point out some flaws. I have had dyson ball and it had terrible performance, very poor seals around everything. The do have a fairly good warranty
My friend has as a Shark and a dog, the decrepit creature (the Shark) absolutely stinks of stale dog odor and has done since its first couple of uses. The filters (including the HEPA filter) are always caked in dust after a couple of uses. I don't know how Shark get away with it.
Bottom line, throw-away vacuums in my opinion. I have never had any of those things for my use. For 25+ years I still own the same Royal commercial upright and Electrolux / Prolux upright. A Hoover Porta-power is the perfect small portable for my use and for when necessary a larger Clark canister machine when a big job presents itself. Granted I may not filter as many fine dust particles but the suction is always at maximum efficiency with standard bags available by the case at reasonable cost and without having to buy any overpriced HEPA filters. 😁
As consumer products become more technologically sophisticated, they become more difficult to repair. This is fundamentally true across different products. See laptops, smartphones, automobiles etc BTW, the bristles on the roller bar were changed by design - so critique the engineering if you don’t like the fins
I have the NV752. I've had it for almost 10 years. (I think?) I've never had a major problem with it. I also maintain equipment regularly. I think people use their house vacs like a shop vac. Then they wonder why it clogs or motor fails....
All of the fine dust goes straight through the first filters in sharks and ends up on the sound deadening, making it even more restrictive, overheating the motor and killing it. What makes its way trough the pre filter and sound deadaning clogs the post motor filter, all of these things add up and slowly kill the motor, and this is under normal use! My grandma has a shark and i take care of it after every use, she thinks it is brilliant but the whole thing is slowly disintegrating, the anti hair wrap rubber strips have split in multiple places making it pointless, also it cannot pick up anything bigger than a grain of rice without it getting stuck in the brush rollers making a horrid sound and also wreking the brush further. they are impressive upon first use but if i was not here cleaning the filters with my benchvac all of the time and making sure it never gets overfilled it would already be broken. not to mention the brush at the front that gets clagged up with shit, shark is a shady disposable brand and the people who buy into there advertising do not have a single clue how to think for themselves.
I find your claims that they hide filters is odd. The instructions tell you about them. The tool caddy is great then tools actually stay in place. I get the idea you jjst do. Ot like them. I had mine for a while andhave no problem with mines.
The majority of customers never read instructions. I can't tell you how many comile in for repair and I show the filter to the customer. Then they're amazed that there is a filter they didn't know about.
I really only bought my shark vacuum because of the brush roll design- not getting hair wrapped around it…the rate at which the motor turns does make me think that because of this, those motor brushes are going to burn out much quicker… Also, the Shark vac. Company probably wouldn’t like how well I take care of mine because it most likely will last very long opposed to the shorter life span they expect of a consumer 😏
If only that was true. The nozzle designs one of the worst on the market and differently traps lots of hair. Here's what happens after a year of light use. th-cam.com/video/b_XMhOR-UKc/w-d-xo.html
I just love SEBO Felix uprights. For me, nothing else comes close to it. Shark can keep their machines away from me. Dyson plastic fantastic are just damn awful creaky nasty flimsy machines that I really do not like at all.
I remember when Shark first stated out and the owner of the company was hawking them on infomercials. I thought that they were a junk product immediately based on contrivances and they’ve only gotten worse.
It is amazing how fast shark moves through there model lineups. Their current models still have all the problems that are talked about in this video. House of vacuums did a great write up about that here:th-cam.com/video/27gdmUkWmnw/w-d-xo.html

I agree with everything you said, these are just awful, I know some people adore these things and will get all pissed off if you say it is garbage but it is truly trash, they seem to be even more popular than a bissell powerforce helix at this point but they are really bad, I could use a $35 vacuum and have better performance than one of these things.
Great review, it was right on the money.... I have this same model and now it's already not running anymore due to the brush head. Would you ever make a tear down of this model's brush head? That would be useful for all of us that have this terrible model... I tired and this thing is hard to disassemble if not impossible without breaking the plastic parts.
Sharks are great if you never need to use the hose and attachments and like dumping the bin and cleaning the cheap foam filter every 10 minutes. Lift away might have worked if the people designing the attachments weren't drunken cavemen.

And your correct on the 9.5 roller brush it's a deal breaker for me
If they are trying to shorten the lifespan why do they offer a 5 year warranty?
That… seems bogus
All my vacuum wishes to you
I have gone through 2 of these pueces of shite in the last 4 years. There is a little .99 cent switch that turns the brushroll on and off that frequently breaks after 18-24 months of use. I paid 400 dollars EACH for these machines in the last 4 years, and as I write this one is in the landfill and the otherone is headed there.
THANK YOU !
and what an eye-opener!
I spent several hours watching videos made by house cleaners mostly recommending Shark vacs.
I've watched hundreds of reviews you can't get an honest review on any of them
@@johnmitchell2741including this
I repair and then sell vacuum cleaners as a side line and after replacing a cable on a NV601UKT this morning decided it would be the last Shark, Everything was cracked or worn.
Did you clean under the brush like it tells you multiple times in the manual?
Another reason to side eye Dyson. 🤷🏿♂️ 😪
We empty in bag less in the can in the garage. Any time we empty the bag on our tristar dust does get everywhere.
Hi i just bought a Shark Navigator lift away. And it dims my lights and it has tripped the breakers. Shark customer service told me I need to call an a electrician to check my house electrical panels. They said it was my house that needed to be fixed.
I had the same think happen. Electricians could not find a problem.
Well made me rethink getting a shark :(.
Back to the drawing board
Your right about all this. Shark is not improving on any of there quality. I would spend the extra money and get a dyson.
Thanks for warning me when I should make a choice for buying this model of vacuum. So many things or wrong. And for that amount of money I can buy a much better one. ( I own a Kirby since 1993 ) More American brands are available in The Netherlands, since Amazon has arrived in our country.
Good job wasting money on a Kirby
I was thinking about getting a Shark vacuum but when I went to Walmart the other day to see how they feel, the vacuum was so flimsy and it even toppled over. I couldn't find Dyson at Walmart so is that a good vacuum?
If Shark fans found this video they would probably flood the comment section.
luckily Shark doesn't have very many fans.
I have an apex and if there were anything to complain about it’s that they make the hose way too short. So that makes the lift off be almost pointless
so your saying dyson and other manufacturers have MICROSWITCHS available on their website??? dont think i saw one when i was shopping for my vac
Yes . But through wholesale distributors.
Like Essco and steel city vacuum.
I wish I would have seen this video before I spent $400 on a vaccume that has a non removable roll! The bright engineer who came up with that should be FIRED!
Love it! You said it like it is! I'm going back to old school bag vacuum soon. Thanks for sharing.
Dyson is the worse, I clean houses and Dyson been a nightmare, worse thing is rich people go back to that expensive bad one DYSON
Man this guy really hates shark, also he’s a gravity believer :0
🤣 these have been my favorite dis comments so far.
Great information thanks for putting this video together.
As consumer products become more technologically sophisticated, they become more difficult to repair. This is fundamentally true across different products. See laptops, smartphones, automobiles etc
BTW, the bristles on the roller bar were changed by design - so critique the engineering if you don’t like the fins
Did you watch the video?
My aunt recently bought an nv752. I wonder how long it’ll take the filter to clog up. I think she’s the kind of person that doesn’t wash the filters.
your aunt sounds like me, but i don't recognise your name! 🤣🤣🤣
I have the NV752. I've had it for almost 10 years. (I think?) I've never had a major problem with it. I also maintain equipment regularly. I think people use their house vacs like a shop vac. Then they wonder why it clogs or motor fails....
pretty bold claim of having lead in the plastic. any reputable sources or a lead test that proves this?
It states it on the vacuum itself when you unbox it. They have also had several recalls related to the subject.
How do I fix a loose wheel?
It's a shark you don't . 🚮
When did you get a DC17
Late last year actually.
He posted a picture in discord.
Join our Discord Link in the description above we talk random vacuum stuff there all day long.
I really only bought my shark vacuum because of the brush roll design- not getting hair wrapped around it…the rate at which the motor turns does make me think that because of this, those motor brushes are going to burn out much quicker…
Also, the Shark vac.
Yeah for $400 I'll just rebuild my Kirby G4
I just love SEBO Felix uprights. For me, nothing else comes close to it. Shark can keep their machines away from me. Dyson plastic fantastic are just damn awful creaky nasty flimsy machines that I really do not like at all.
I remember when Shark first stated out and the owner of the company was hawking them on infomercials. I thought that they were a junk product immediately based on contrivances and they’ve only gotten worse.
The best advertisement for a vacuum cleaner is trying out one at a vacuum store and they will convince you that bags are better.
This vacuum review is a little dated. How about testing out the newer Shark Stratos and forming an opinion about it?
It is amazing how fast shark moves through there model lineups. Their current models still have all the problems that are talked about in this video. House of vacuums did a great write up about that here:th-cam.com/video/27gdmUkWmnw/w-d-xo.html
It tips over because sooooo badly balanced! I have had two and both burned out after a year.
What's a vacuum tech?
Somebody who works on vacuum cleaners for a living.
The Dysons is so heavy. I’ve tried a few and I feel like my shoulder is coming out of the socket to push it!
You should try a canister vacuum and ditch uprights all together if weight is a concern.
This dude literally used a vacuum to clean a vacuum
Yo Dawg I heard you like vacuums.
@@PerformanceReviews What are you talking about?
Hi on your video there is a small hole at the bottom on the unit, on my shark that is where all the suction is, this makes my shark unusable. Would you happen to know how to fix it please?
So glad i seen this video now I'm definitely not get one, no Shark Vac for me! 🤣🤣🤣🤦🏾♂️
Finally, found an honest video. Been racking my brain all day researching vacuum s!!!!ty ty !!!God bless!
The head of the vertex is pretty good sized.
Hey Performance Reviews what about these Shark's Preddeseccors, The 700 Series Euro Pro Fantom Twister Uprights?!
I had forgotten about that trash glad those are all dead and gone.
@@PerformanceReviews Hey Actually There were Commercial Versions Of The 700 Series Euro-Pro Fantom Twister Uprights So That's why I say they're Even Better than any Dirty Air Upright That You've Tested Because The Metal Brushroll In The 700 Series Commercial Fantom Twister Uprights are even better than The Metal Brushrolls on any Dirty Air Upright!
I’m not ready!!! But am very open minded!
From one tech to another baby Shark is a joke just like those robot vacuums. Funny to show customers a real vacuum compared to those lemon sharks
😭😭😭....I just got a Shark vacuum. I thought I did my research now I just feel dumb
Thanks for the video. Did you do a similar one for Dyson's?
No but the history of Dyson should explain that :

What would you recommend for a couple living in a 39 foot RV full time? We currently have a V15 absolute. Works great but with 3 cats I have to empty the bin 2-3 times; vacuuming 1-2 times per week.
Have a mini Central Vacuum installed in your RV.
Its exhausting listening to you breath! Get some oxygen!
We don't have any up here 🤣
See FAQ video
Interesting video with some interesting points, though it seemed quite loaded/biased to me.
BTW, I absolutely HATE Henrys! The worst domestic vacuum cleaner ever, regardless of it's suction power.
What do you hate about it?
Great video. So, is there one or two recommendations you can make for a 2.,000 square foot house with hard flooring and 2 or 3 throw rugs?
Miele C1 turbo,SEBO K2 , Henry Xtra 160.
Frequent brush roll clogging is why I’m looking to replace our Dyson upright. After watching your video I will avoid the Shark line, but can you recommend a vacuum cleaner with a tangle-resistant beater bar? We have one Newfoundland shedding machine and ten people living in 3600 sq. ft. Thank you!
SEBO and Miele are the brands I would look at right now.
I'm interested to know what you ended up getting, the cost of it and your thoughts? Thanks
You should do a review or everything wrong with on an older shark duo clean like the apex or apex zero m and maybe compare the newer design with the newer one
Thanks for watching. Good luck finding one of those for me to review.
Agreed on this video but is there a better alternative for those that don't have the space to store a full on bagged vacuum cleaner with a stalk?
He might tell us the Sebo Felix
@@laurenrichardson9748 Only issue is the crazy money for any Sebo
The brush roll indicator is red please need help.
If it's under warranty call the 1-800 number and demand a replacement. Pass the warranty dispose of it in the proper bin 🚮
So... not going to buy a Shark now. Problem is... what vacuum do I go with? What would be considered the best upright/corded/bagless vac? Was even tempted to buy a bagged vac... the Riccar R40P.8 if I can justify the cost.
I would recommend the SEBO Felix or Dart if you're looking for a similar future set. The vacuum cleaner read it also has some great options if you want to post your over there and ask some other experts as well.
Thank you very much for this video after watching tons of videos I always come back to this one cuz it's the most informative. I will view the rest of your videos thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
I agree with everything you said, these are just awful, I know some people adore these things and will get all pissed off if you say it is garbage but it is truly trash, they seem to be even more popular than a bissell powerforce helix at this point but they are really bad, I could use a $35 vacuum and have better performance than one of these things.
What's a vacuum you would recommend for mostly carpet under $200?
th-cam.com/video/YgLmDqbgIeo/w-d-xo.html
Great review, it was right on the money.... I have this same model and now it's already not running anymore due to the brush head. Would you ever make a tear down of this model's brush head? That would be useful for all of us that have this terrible model... I tired and this thing is hard to disassemble if not impossible without breaking the plastic parts.
Thanks for watching! Subscribe and hit that Bell notification and something might just happen today 😁

I wont buy another shark again
Spent 199.99 on the shark navigator with pet brush. It's garbage. My 48.88 3 year 9ld bissell is better..
Sharks are great if you never need to use the hose and attachments and like dumping the bin and cleaning the cheap foam filter every 10 minutes. Lift away might have worked if the people designing the attachments weren't drunken cavemen.
What's the best whole house antiallergan with hepa filter lightweight vacuum to buy? Thank you
A MD central vacuum.
Better off going to big lots and buy a $70 Bissell blows away shark.
What vacuum brand do you recommend that is less than $600 then?
