      My duo clean apex head broke almost as soon as I purchased the vacuum. I had to buy specialty tools to fix it myself. Then the clips that keep the brush roll lid in place broke less than 6 months after purchase and the vacuum is designed not work if the clips are not in place, the vacuum lights blink and the rolls won't spin. I had to rig the vacuum head to work because the head is designed to be replaced, not fixed. It's $100 to replace the head. The vacuum is not made to last, and at it's price point it should. I finally threw it out and purchased a $50 vacuum to use in the interim while I research a more expensive vacuum. The $50 vacuum has now outlasted the length of time I had my apex duo clean without breaking and has been more trouble free and cleaned well enough for me to wonder if I actually need an expensive vacuum.

    Did you guys ever have a problem with a apex because we had ours for about 5 years and it started to lean forward because of the big block of plastic that is supposed to snap into the wand to make it sit. But it was a beast and the only issue we had with it other than that was that we had to cut hair out of the rollers about twice per year. We bought a cordless stratos but I liked the apex more and the stratos keeps getting anything bigger then a piece of hair stuck and above the rollers. The apex is my favorite and I wish they made one that was cordless with a huge battery.

    I brought a shark and it was the best vacuum I had used. However, I wont buy another shark. After about 3 month of normal use (ie: used once per week on 160sqft of carpet along with maybe 20sqft of hardfloor) the maintenance was significant. Also and parts and servicing is a nightmare to find/do. Also, it doesn’t take long before you have a major problem with the vacuum. I’ve had cheaper and same priced units that have lasted for over 16 years whereas the shark motor died after 2 years.

    One major issue, especially with expensive vacuums, is that companies like Shark are worse than smartphone makers in that these manufacturers deliberately design, engineer and sell their vacuum cleaners (and introduce new, redesigned models rapidly) that are increasingly and consistently more difficult to repair (and the manufacturers make increasingly fragile parts that break easier, and they also do not make or stock spare parts) so that cleaner owners will simply go out and buy a new vacuum cleaner regularly. Our family recently got burned on Shark, so no matter how effective the machines are, we will not patronize the company again.

    In all of your videos; you talk about the lights as if they're for using the units at night... You even make sarcastic remarks about the feature as if it's useless.
    That's not what they're for. The lights cast low level light across the floor so that you can see smaller bits of dust and debris that you may miss otherwise.

    • @vacuumnerds
      @vacuumnerds  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some LEDs work better than others. Personally I don't think most help much in illuminating dust. The Dyson laser head does a great job, but I think these LEDs are mostly not very effective. I'd love to see more manufacturers follow Dyson's lead because they could be a lot better than they are. Just my 2c!

      @@vacuumnerds I'm simply saying that the purpose is there. Whether or not they work as good as the dyson doesn't mean that the lights are not for that purpose.

    Just a tip, Amazon, Woot, and Walmart tend to sell refurbished vauums as well. Obviously a harder buy since the vacuum has to be in stock, but you can get many vacuums there for typically 40% or more percent off MSRP for the new prices. It mostly depends on what kind of hair the household has. Like the corded Shark AZ1810 Vertex (which is the modern Apex) is $147.95 there. Crazy deal to beat.

    • @CorntChowder
      @CorntChowder 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Be careful with the refurbished vacuums on Amazon because they usually come from third party sellers that do not have the same return policy as Amazon. I had a bad experience trying to return a refurbished vacuum to Amazon. I thought I purchased it from Amazon warehouse, but it was a third party seller. The vacuum did not work on arrival, and when the seller received the return they claimed I had damaged the vacuum and left hair in it(not true). The seller only offered a partial refund. I had to argue back and forth with the seller and get Amazon's involvement. It was months before I was fully refunded, and it was by Amazon not the seller. The seller had many bad reviews that contained the same type of feedback as my experience, but they are still selling on Amazon.

    Pretty good video, but there were not any true high airflow vacuums or bagged vacuums what are WAY better than any of these. My main problem with these are that they need a lot of filter maintenance. Bagged vacuums need bag change about once a month and you are never going to be inhaling the dust. Also bags are just couple dollars a month and filter maintenance is once a year deal.

    I purchased the Shark (AZ3002) Stratos Upright Vacuum with DuoClean PowerFins for our home with all solid surfaces flooring and it really is amazing! I will say we got it on sale (for $399) about 2 months ago and I understand that is not exactly inexpensive, but it has been worth every darn penny so far. If anyone out there is looking at an upright vacuum for mainly solid surface flooring the Stratos is definitely one if put on your list to consider. 😊

    WTF? A comedy skit at best and it's poor. None are repairable. So, be prepared to replace them quite often or not. My Broom has continued to work over the past 20 years! No more vacuums. My Shark is less than 6 months old and has stopped suction. All filters clean, no blockages. Motor works except no suction. Buh Bye Shark!

      Thanks for you comment Paula. We don't test long term reliability, only our initial experience ) or longer if we choose to use the vacuum in our home). Consumers Reports has the resources for long term testing. My understanding is that Shark offers a 5 year warranty. You might reach out to them.

    Thanks! So, my Kenmore 32150 died about 6 mos ago, and I landed on a Cirrus CPU4T, with which I ALWAYS use my (-24db) headset…the EXTRA(+++) noise is a real bonus balanced nicely by the lack of a headlight…this thing is an astrophysicist’s dream: Dark Noise! Subject to viewing your wisdom, I am now going to swim The Big River, make an Apex purchase, and upon receipt, banish the “cloud” to the garage where it can keep the concrete floor clean, and where I store my headsets for use with

    • @vacuumnerds
      @vacuumnerds  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Most of the ones I've tried with a retractable cord don't seal the canister very well and so dust gets out. They are definitely convenient, but personally, I prefer a sealed canister. You can also consider a canister vac which has a retractable cord, but great sealing like this Kenmore amzn.to/3HM4OUW

    Well made video I really like your composition. But you guys made a few errors, so as a nerd I'll point them out.
    1. You mistakenly point to the sponge filters and call them hepa filters. The washable filters are not the hepa filters.
    2. The Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Turbo's Smartseal Allergen System is not a hepa filter which is why it failed the fog test.
    3. While I understand why you recommended the Shark Rotator and Shark Apex neither is sold by Shark so they are the older discontinued models.
    Again nice video. I hope you'll test some really epic vacuums like the Sebo Felix and Miele C1 Cat & Dog.
