I've had two shark vacuums over the past 5 years and both had hoses that cracked right after the two year warranty. I can't see myself falling for that brand again. Tempted to just get a bissell.
Had two Sharks and both had the swivel heads break on them. Won't buy another Shark again. I finally broke down and spent the money on a Riccar and don't regret it. That machine is amazing and out works the Shark and Dyson by a mile. They are a bit heavy but maneuvering them is so easy.
I hated my Dyson ball vacuum. I was not impressed with the suction for the price. It was heavy and hard to maneuver. I returned it after a week. I am ready to try a Shark!
I got the Shark Stratos Duo Clean upright just a couple weeks ago, an I really like it so far. The suction it's actually unusually strong, it's very maneuverable, and perfectly sealed. The only minor gripe I have is that the hose for the handheld attachments is far too short, and could be at least a third longer. The main issue I hear about all new vacuums including Shark are that the hoses degrade and tear. I'm researching the material they are made of and how to take care of it. I'd imagine there is some treatment they can be cleaned with to keep them from drying out and becoming brittle, yet treating the insides would be another issue. If they are removable maybe rinsing them out every now and then would help.
I have the Stratos and the Dyson Ball 3. Occasionally you can get the Ball 3 (Costco Version) for under $300 which makes it cheaper than the Stratos. With that said I like them both. If I need to clean my stairs I tend to go for the Stratos. I love the suction power of the Dyson and am amazed after 3 iterations they havent done anything with the hose. The Dyson does not stand up well when pulling on the hose and I find it very clunky to use. I would have no issues recommending either though.
@@ModernCastle i have a riccar prima canister with a full sized power nozzle and a sebo G1 upright. both are exceptionally well made machines, they perform extremely well and are durable units. the bissel, dyson, and shark are all very poorly made and disposable units
But how does it do in medium pile carpet? Does it pick up sand? I'm use to a rainbow, which after 25 years finally died. Finding a replacement that is more affordable is a challenge. I live on a farm and there's lots of sand everywhere. My rainbow was great at getting it out of the carpet. how do any of these rate?
Just echoing that Sebo, Riccar, and Lindhaus should be included next time as these brands are produce fantastic uprights that are superior to most on this list. Sebo is a German brand, Riccar is American, and Lindhaus is Italian but all three are available in the US at authorized dealers and online. I would choose one of these all day before a Dyson or Shark. In the budget category, I’d include Simplicity’s Allergy Upright and the Hoover Complete Performance Advanced Bagged Upright.
@@corvettetexan I’d say longevity is the biggest benefit plus the long warranties. They are serviceable, and they’re also fairly simple. The customer can disassemble and maintain most of them, particularly Sebo. All can last 15+ years with little maintenance and filtration and suction will not decline with age. They’re solid vacuums that you can keep for years beyond what you’d get out of most in this video. I’m not a vacuum salesman, I’ve just love a good, reliable product that keeps my home clean.
The video quality is stunning. But the list of vacuums you tested is outdated. All 3 Hoovers and the 2 Bissells are old and discontinued. The Oreck XL is the commercial model and not the newer Oreck Elevate models.
Thanks! I'll see if we can get some new Hoovers, Bissells, and Orecks for 2024. Maybe there's a model out there that's more impressive than the last ones we tested.
Just because the hoover wide path tempo is old and out dated doesn't mean that the new vacuums are much better because the tempo is way better than the new hoover bagged upright and hoover went down hill they took away the steam vac and that was way better than the power dash pet they are fire hazards and their vacuums are shit a old hoover is the way to go even the hoover elites are better too they never make good vacuums now
I find it strange there were no bagged upright models tested as those seem to be better at overall filtration. Also next year do you have any plans to review popular canister vaccine such as sebo Miele or kenmore?
Most our viewers seem to strongly prefer bagless over bagged, so we've tended to focus more on those. Though I do agree, when it comes to filtration and keeping everything contained, a bagged unit is typically better. Unfortunately, I don't think we'll be doing more testing around canisters. We just haven't seen nearly as much interest there as with others types. We did test the Miele C1 though here - moderncastle.com/vacuum-cleaners/miele-classic-c1-review/
@@ModernCastlePeople prefer bagless because they just pull a vacuum off the shelf at Costco after skimming the box art and do no research at all into what makes a good vacuum. Only too have their disposable shark and Bissell shit the bed a year or two after purchase.
Its a shame theres not more high end bagless upright vaccums out there. If you dont want Dyson or Shark you either have to go to cheap models or buy super expensive bagged vaccums that lack modern features. If those super expensive vaccums like Riccar and Meile innovated and made better stuff for hard floors and went bagless id pay almost anything.

Mine just broke.
Got a new nv356 and floor setting broke in 2 weeks… crazy had an old version for 7+ year and bought it used never one issue 🤦🏽♂️

A little research goes a long way. I have sold countless Riccar and Sebos to many happy customers.
Shark is my favorite vac brand 😂😂
I have a Dyson animal ball from 2008. Still works great. I’ve only replaced the brushes and hose to wand. $40 total

Awesome video and great roundup! Would love to see best robot vacuumes for 2024
We are shooting that video early next week! Ideally it'll be out before the end of January.
I'm surprised Riccar wasn't in this list since it is expensive upright vacuum. I'm curious how it holds up against the dyson animal 3
Riccar isn't one we've tested, but I'll see if we can get one this year for testing. Thanks for the suggestion.

We didn't test medium pile.
The sugar tests should be similar enough to sand.
If you have a Rainbow that you already like why would you switch?
Where did you get those goofy looking shoes shown at about 9:12 into the video. Theyre hilarious.😂

Bagged vacuums are far cleaner. You need to test the amount of junk that is being flung back out
