@@Gorilla-r4g First of all, people would always like having modding on a older game even if its equal, for curiosity, because they cannot play the newer release, etc. And second, the OG CTR is different to the point some people actually prefer the OG, like the controls, different mechanics, artstyle, etc.
@@Gorilla-r4g And this is personal, but i think Oxide is way more intimidating in the OG due to its size and voice. In the remake for me at least it doesnt feel too special to use, he feels like another racer.

I tried so many fake cheat codes from the internet to unlock this guy as a kid, and was always so sad he wasn't playable. This is like a dream come true.
Polar pass, Cortex castle, Oxide station racetracks are a little too demanding in Time trial mode if you use a Nitros Oxide character. If all 3 (enemy ghost, your ghost + you) use a Nitros Oxide vehicle and hit certain points on the track at the same time (Geometer flashes pretty well) (Polar Pass level even froze once with 4 hours of testing) (I also used the 60fps mod v2 thing at the same time with that oxide patch. )
We can fix that by overriding PrimMem and OTMem to allocate more memory. We left it as-is for now, to keep ordinary consoles at a reasonable FPS, and yes we have memory left over for that

Man I'm so glad the myth, the legend, the one character you couldn't play as in the PlayStation Original CTR is now playable thanks to ROM Mods and Hacks. I wonder what his Victory Animation looks like? Since I don't recall him having one.
The oxide fix has, as of today, partially been converted cross-region for 5 versions of the game, including PAL. There will eventually be an oxide fix for all 5 versions

one of biggest dreams came true but what are you planning for new characters? I mean you'd need new sounds too and these need to be compressed and in an optimal file format so the game can read them is taking sounds from nitro fueled and compressing them to the needed quality so og ctr can play them an option? or the other way around - can this game play hd sounds? I know it'd need more processing power and it's gonna weigh more but is that possible?
We dont have a plan for audio yet, character voices are XA audio, which we have experimented with (see restoration of unused voicelines in a previous video). XA is limited to the standard format of quality.
Thanks for the mod, I like it! Is there a way to control which racers you race against? Except for the boss races and the purple gem cup, you'll always face the default racers. Is there a way to customise that?
There is a mod that randomizes the CPU racers and also include the unlockable characters as part of the opponents, I uploaded a video on my channel showcasing it, so I recommend checking it out

@@goshapodkova3545 As darkraiser said, by default we left the stats as the developer intended. But that doesn't mean it should be permanent. TheRedHotBR already made an engine swap feature in his practiceROM mod. I also have personally finished an engine select mod (which hopefully can be combined with Oxide mod). So you can totally change his stats on the go!

For now it unlocks instantly, we "could" change it, but after all the internet trolls telling us to type a hundred fake cheat codes, it's best to make it easy, at least in the first release
It's amazing! thank you Niko for the hard work. I tested on Popstarter Emu and unfortunately its not working. Game stays at “Sony Computer Entertai …” screen with background sounds. Do you know if there is a workaround to fix this in popstarter or why its happening?
Does this happen in popstarter when the mod is not installed? If so, that's an IRQ fail, which is why many emulators can't boot CTR (old PCSXR, WiiSX, etc). A workaround is in the "testing CTR in PCSX2" video, we dont have an official fix that can be installed or patched in, but we could potentially make one in the future. If this bug is specific to the oxide mod, reply and let me know

What happens is similar to what you say happened to pc emus in the past, so I thought maybe there is some way to make it work. Thank you very much for answering me I really appreciate the effort you make and hopefully in the future it can be compatible with popstarter too. To be specific I describe the problem tested on Ps2 Fat, model SCPH- 50001, POPStarter 2019-06-05 (USB Device) latest version ( I also tested popstarter compatibility modes with same results) 1. The Ps logo screen appears (then fades away). 2. A horizontal line made up of several pixels appears at the top of the screen (after waiting about 20 seconds fades away). 3. Then the "sony computer..." screen appears with the sounds in the background and stays that way.
@@geddd Interesting, there are updates coming, so we'll investigate this. Either it's mad at us for abusing kernel memory, or we overwrote something in RDATA that it needs. The mod works on real PS1 hardware. Either way we might have an anti-IRQ patch in the future that can be applied universally on top of an existing mod, so that might help later. If an update comes out to Oxide, and the IRQ workaround isn't out, please remind me

Perhaps it's just that Oxide's model is too big but he doesn't feel as fast as the others (even if the speedometer says otherwise). Great mod, nonetheless.
Good mod. Sometimes when I play the mod using a burned disc on my Ps1, the game crashes when switching between different modes. Not sure if it happens to anyone else. It only happens when I pick oxide

Nope, the unlockable characters all share classes Joe, Fake Crash, Oxide: Intermediate (well, Oxide isn't legitimately unlockable, but he's still intermediate) Pinstripe: Accel Ripper Roo, NTSC-U Penta: Turn Papu Papu, N. Tropy: Speed AFAIK, AI opponents don't actually have 'classes' so to speak

If you don't mind, here are some things that would be very good to fix: Oxide Dance after winning a trophy Oxide engine smoke coming out from the wrong place Some voice lines are too low in volume (imo) And the mod compatibility If these thing can be fixed, I would probably play everything again in my 4 file saves, in each memory save. please upload save game you can easily all region like PAL, NTSC-U/C and NTSC-J add character N. Oxide including complete character player races. Thanks
PAL oxide is not an active priority, we've released the oxide mod code, and 90% of the game code in the decompile (including PAL game), so anyone can port the mod to PAL if someone new joins the community, but right now we have other upcoming CTR projects

Same stats as Crash and Cortex. There are only four character "classes" in the game, there are not unique stats on every driver. The only exception is Penta on PAL, who is a fifth class in PAL and J

A combination of several mods is something we're thinking about. As well as custom cups, but there's only so much room to inject assembly. No decision has been made about it yet
@@sebastiankulche Most mods run on vanilla hardware, only the stupid mods where we draw 200 oxides are emu-only. We would also say in the video if a mod were emu-only, like 60fps requiring overclock

The USA version can use a cheat code to change language to the european one, you don't get the voices however.

There is no animation, so Oxide simply wont draw when he comes first on the podium, but this is something we might make ourselves in the future

Have not tried gameshark, but there is a chance that gameshark will not work. Not much need for it when you can just change the game code

Does he play like his boss cpu counterpart? For example the grass at the side just before the finish line does not slow him down in Roos tubes stage
No, he plays like a regular character. Although I'm pretty sure the "feature" you are referring to applies to any CPU racer, not just Oxide himself.

Perhaps it's just that Oxide's model is too big but he doesn't feel as fast as the others (even if the speedometer says otherwise). Great mod, nonetheless.

Good mod. Sometimes when I play the mod using a burned disc on my Ps1, the game crashes when switching between different modes. Not sure if it happens to anyone else. It only happens when I pick oxide

I think, hasn't been tested. Widescreen is probably just GTE plus editing some HUD elements, shouldn't be a problem

Yup, exact same steps, then burn on a CD, and use disc-swap (or psx-change, or gameshark, or a modchip, or PSIO, or unirom) and it will run

That's cause they're fighting for the same resources. Every mod we've ever written is currently being touched up with new research. More news on that will come when a video is ready
@@nprocopi1231 TYSM and everyone creating these mods, we appreciate every single drop of effort you guys put on making these mods, I prefer the PS1 versions of games, and seeing a lot of people interested on fixing (some things in) the game.
If you don't mind, here are some things that would be very good to fix:
Oxide Dance after winning a trophy
Oxide engine smoke coming out from the wrong place
Some voice lines are too low in volume (imo)
And the mod compatibility
If these thing can be fixed, I would probably play everything again in my 4 file saves, in each memory save.
Ty beforehand, if some can't be fixed, there's no problem, we (everyone playing these mods) still appreciate what y'guys do.

PAL oxide is not an active priority, we've released the oxide mod code, and 90% of the game code in the decompile (including PAL game), so anyone can port the mod to PAL if someone new joins the community, but right now we have other upcoming CTR projects
As of now, the oxide mod has been partially converted to PAL. Still a work in progress, but it will indeed happen with time

Same stats as Crash and Cortex. There are only four character "classes" in the game, there are not unique stats on every driver. The only exception is Penta on PAL, who is a fifth class in PAL and J

Combine this mod with character randomizer and nitro fueld(boost) mod then it will be the ultimate ctr it should have done the first place
A combination of several mods is something we're thinking about. As well as custom cups, but there's only so much room to inject assembly. No decision has been made about it yet

@@sebastiankulche Most mods run on vanilla hardware, only the stupid mods where we draw 200 oxides are emu-only. We would also say in the video if a mod were emu-only, like 60fps requiring overclock
