Peter Gabriel masterful lyrics during a real difficult time for him. Imagine he poured alot in the lamb with the combination of original line up of extraordinary musicians in Genesis
Bingo. I know I'd never have discovered them if it weren't for their later stuff in the 80's. What a shame that would have been! Greatest band to ever have record, IMO. No matter who the front man was. More of my favorite tracks are from the Gabriel years, but it's all amazing.
Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks do such an amazing job on this to recreate the original sound. The 1999 version with Peter Gabriel on vocals is one of my songs.
This has always been my favourite Genesis and Phil Collins song. But man I have been loving Gabriels solo work all these years as well. His recent remake of 'Blood' is quite enjoyable.
@annbelcar65 It's from "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway." At this point in the narrative, Rael (the protagonist) has encountered, a hall with red ochre decor. The masses assembled are slowly crawling through a thick carpet towards a spiral staircase, which leads to a chamber of 32 doors (which only one leads to the way out). There may be more to it than that, but "The Lamb" is a very cerebral work to begin with.
Normally it'd be Mike Rutherford and/or Darryl using the Moog Taurus Bass Pedals, but on this instance I think Tony's playing the bass parts with his left hand while playing the arpeggios with his right hand, like he did back in the 70s.
I wish that the band never did that last domino tour oh I know full well why Phil did it? As his latest divorse had him needing to "top up" as it were? But his voice was nowhere like it was here! And those ticket prices?
He skips around in the lyrics, seems to omit the "lamb's wool under my naked feet" passage altogether? Then he pads it out by repeating the "get in to get out" lines to the point of wearing them out, exhausting their meaning. IMO. I suppose it's done to get this most wonderful melodic phrase into people's ears post-haste, and then to continue to twang on it for the duration. I'm not a Phil basher, just saying. He's sung this beauty far many more times than Peter, he's earned his place with it. His apres-Pete renderings of this in the 70's were not as careful to preserve the beauty of it. He does an admirable job of it here.
Watching this,I know why I love Genesis so much❤
😢😮😊😂❤
Even though Gabriel sang it on the Lamb, over the years Phil made this song his opus. This may be the best live version.
Lets be clear on this, Pete not only sang it, he wrote it, thats some amount of credit miss.
Also Phil never sings the first 10 lines from the studio version--- not good.
I love that we have two versions to go to. pete and phils. it's such a unique gift from a rock band. They both sound great on the old material.
@@nordicoriginthey skipped those first lines in the ‘82 reunion too.
A far cry from the 500-seat theater where I first saw Genesis in 1973.
x 1000!
Daryl never gets the credit he deserves. His playing on this is every bit as good as Steve Hackett
Non penso proprio.
He is Daryl, not Steve. I like them both. One is a hired gun, the other a creator. It’s only knock and know all, but I like it.
Masterpiece of love! Wonderful Performance! Perfect Concert! That's why I love you, Genesis Band! ❤️🎼🎶
We ‘ve just say goodbye to my best friend that passed away a few days ago , with this song at the funeral.
And i’m still crying.
Thank you Phil.
The last song in the last concert, the end so perfect.
I could listen to this a million times and not tire of it. The universe blessed us with Genesis.
They performed this at Saratoga Performing Arts Center in 1978. Genesis was the first concert I ever went to.It was awesome
Que cancion sublime y hermosa❤❤❤❤❤❤
Lady in the crowd, carry all the light.(from Jujuy,Argentina)

Peter Gabriel masterful lyrics during a real difficult time for him. Imagine he poured alot in the lamb with the combination of original line up of extraordinary musicians in Genesis
We got to get in to get out
I love the 1999 version of the song. Can’t beat the bombastic atmosphere this version creates.
Beatiful, unforgettable. I miss you / Phill Collins . Please come back again!!!
@@THAISCRIS316 hermosísima canción me encanta la letra y su música espectacular
saw the show in manchester, and previously twice in leeds (87 & 92) and once newcastle (also 92) - one of the all time great rock bands, no question

Thank you. I had no idea how much I needed this today 🥰
One of the great live concerts of all time. Up there with their Wembley gigs in 87, Queen in Budapest, Who in Leeds
One of my favorite Genesis songs. It's so damn eerie and sends a chill up my spine every time I hear it.
Couldn’t agree more !
Always makes me cry.
For all the right reasons!

Good to see Phil taking it seriously again. Great tunes given the proper respect
This is just beautiful! Thanks for sharing ❤

È vero sono fra di noi
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
love this, can someone explain what it means though(i know im a bit thick)
I suspect that we are both lowering the average IQ.
You have to listen to the whole album. See @annbell65 comment from 13 yrs ago...It's a long story...
It's with @qdHazen's comment re Rael
@TyrInfinite can you help me understand it?
Oh Yes - 2007 and Peter Grabiel is sadly also being old, and the 70’es and 80’es was epic…. and the “times are a’achanging”… sorry the spelling
Io c'ero fantastico
I got a good question here... Who's playing the bass? It sounds way too natural to be the pedal, so I guess someone off-stage is playing it, but who?
Normally it'd be Mike Rutherford and/or Darryl using the Moog Taurus Bass Pedals, but on this instance I think Tony's playing the bass parts with his left hand while playing the arpeggios with his right hand, like he did back in the 70s.
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm
phil...
Awww man no PG :(
I thought he was singing “my old man and superman” not “mild mannered supermen”. 😊
Tony Banks song

This is the end of Genesis...
Its a tad before Hotel California...I always see the ripoff.....Its Peter's best and Phil and Genesis pays homage...Fucking love this song
Era meglio cantata dal mitico....
Con in sottofondo le chitarre di......
You mad bruh? He's 100x better than MittfuckRomney, but that doesn't matter because both are terrible compared to Gary Johnson.
It lacks Gabriel’s edginess. Some songs they should leave alone. This is one of them.
