I wouldn’t say Ray sounded like Peter on this, he honored Peter’s version but really put his own stamp on it. Just a wonderful and passionate performance. Mad respect - hope to hear more classics in the future!
Yeah, Nad has the 1970s PG vocal style/tone going on- Ray really puts one in mind of the older PG tone.

Hmm, I must admit, this version is great! Concerning The Lamb, I am usually on the side of those in awe of the studio performance. However, I think Wilson, here, does credit to what was originally intended.

Steve Hackett has chosen the vocalists for all these re-workings of classic Genesis extremely well - This guys voice is totally suited to this song. What an amazing song - an excellent rendition.

Saw Genesis play Carpet Crawlers twice, on the 6-7th March 1975, in "Pavilhão do Dramático", Cascais, Portugal (a couple of months before Gabriel left). It was M-A-G-I-C-A-L. I still think that of ALL Genesis songs this is the one where other interpreters seem to be left further away from the truly eerie, ghostly, magical, extraterrestrial feel that Gabriel used to give to it.
I really liked the Calling All Stations album and Ray’s vocals on it and I’m blown away by how well Ray’s vocals work on this song just wow
Sadly ..fans never took to him after Phil Collins departure ...I would loved to have see him develop with genesis. maybe they would never have went "pop" and still remained Classic prog Rock
The album was a No 2 in the UK and the European tour was very successful. It was the lack of interest in America that ended things.
So I guess there were fans who were willing to give Ray a chance.
In all fairness, Phil's solo albums weren't selling that well in the States so even if he did another album with Genesis, it would never have had the same impact. Changing times regarding music.

It really is not such a bad album, but Genesis without their star member in 1997 (a point at which Genesis could not have possibly been less fashionable), the album really never stood a chance.
Maybe the most beautiful song ever, and Ray did a great job on this version. You just have to love the mystic feeling of this song, and the epic lyrics.
For me Carpet Crawlers and Hacketts guitar work has always been the epitome of prog Genesis
They are a smart breed of musicians who can play beautiful soft songs (Carpet Crawlers..), and hard songs with soft passages (The Knife, The Musical Box). Steve respects Genesis and vice versa. That is rare and so cool. Sad, I don't ever see Steve performing with Phil, Mike, Tony, Gabriel anymore, and that's cool; I still have all there recordings and memories.
This guitar play and arrangement by Steve is the most beautiful thing I have ever heard . And know music very well

I listen to these wonderful pieces of music and am instantly transported to early 1970`s to the time of my youth where at about 15 years old I first listened to Genesis, I have tears in my eyes with the recollections.

Quite a few years ago I saw Ray Wilson performing as Genesis frontman in Zurich and he was very good. With Steve Hackett he sounds even better. Imagine a global Genesis reunion, featuring also these two guys. A bit crowdy, I know, but how great it would be 🤔

Watching Steve perform here really brings into perspective just how much he brought to the band. The Carpet Crawlers... An all time great Genesis track. Some say their very best. The music of which I belive written by the only 2 that never left, Banks and Rutherford. Yet it's Steve's genius guitar that makes the music what it is. Those long never ending notes.... It is fantastic to see Steve keeping Genesis alive and bringing in top talent to join him, including alum like Rey. Rey does great and deserves no hate for his roll in Genesis. They were in a weird place then and to bring it all full circle... The writers for the music of this all time great were not able to pull it off when putting together calling all stations. I I know this video is older but... Now here we are in 2021. If you compare what Hackett is doing live vs Tony Steve and Phil this year, 2021... Well, Steve is stealing the show!! That being said, I love them all and would love to see Steve and Peter work with the rest of them again at any level....
I saw Genesis with PG in Earl's Court, London in 1975. This is one of the most beautiful songs that have ever been written.
One of the things not covered by other comments here: Because the song had always played by a 5-piece up to this point, there was never someone available to do the bass part properly, so it was always very basic bass pedal work by Mike. I find it very nice to finally hear the bass part from the record.

Poor Ray never got the credit he deserved when performing for Genesis, but strangely when he's doing his own/guest appearances people are ok with it. I honestly would want him back for some shows/songs. The Calling All Stations era is a very intriguing last chapter for them, and I'd like to see all past members do some sort of jam together.
His Calling All Stations with Stiltskin is one of my all time favourites. Definitely better than when he did it with Banks and Rutherford.

Well by that point almost everyone on the planet equated Genesis with Phil Collins, I don't think a Phil-less Genesis in 1997 ever stood a chance at being successful. Not Ray's fault at all and I feel bad for him that the whole thing collapsed so fast, but I can also see why Tony and Mike would want to pull the plug and call it a day. If they would have called it something, anything, other than Genesis, it might have stood a better chance, but honestly the general public don't know who the hell Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford are.
Back in 97 I was really mad about the calling all stations album. I thought that it had destroyed a perfect tapestry. years later when I went back to it I realized the songs were much more in the vein of classic Genesis than anything really off we can't dance with the exception of 'fading lights'. The songs were much darker. I think the album could have used a little bit more on the existing songs.
I never equated Genesis with Phil Collins. I was one of those guys who got angry when people said it's the same thing. I didn't really slag Ray Wilson but it was hard to accept a new guy after all that time.
Now looking back, I really like that album and feel it is a much stronger Genesis album than we can't dance. In many ways it is more of a pure Genesis album.
I always liked Calling All Stations. Not only is it without Phil Collins, but it's also without Daryl Stuermer and Chester Thompson. I'd rather listen to this than to the godawful I Can't Dance or Jesus He Knows Me.

Gotta say Ray does this song pretty well. Had honestly never heard anything he did with Genesis.
I saw Genesis in 1997 with Ray Wilson and he did really well on the older Gabriel era material. He didn’t do too well with the newer material. His problem was that Banks and Rutherford were not really invested in the new band, especially Banks whose parts/playing were distinctly ….meh. Poor Ray didn’t stand a chance.
