Just looking at some of Genesis's live performances are incredible. Phil Collins voice is truly at its best live, and they are without a doubt one of the greatest bands of all time. I'm just waiting for them to hit the road again. Would be a dream come true. Hopefully someday!

The song is about a prostitute actually... 😅 "Mama" is the name the client uses in his obsession with her. If you don't believe me go check everywhere you like online and you'll find it easily.
Phil Collins is one of the best vocalists ive ever heard...bet its one of the best live performances ever.
It’s ironic because Phil never wanted to sing. Stay behind the drum kit and kick ass. And then he becomes one of the best singers of all time. God had his plan in here somewhere so we could enjoy this incredible writing and playing.

Regardless of what this song is about, it's always been one of my favorites. My mom (who was a fan of Genesis back in the day), introduced me to this song when I was younger & browsing her cassettes and asked her about Genesis. I've loved it since!

Genesis was the first band I remember listening to as a kid. I'm glad my parents introduced me to them.
I was twelve blasting this out, and my parents thought it was a shout out to mothers. I never told them until I got older it was about a man obsessed with a prostitute.
Angel Gd sure is, but I try to think of it as a song about abortion, with the “Mama, you’re taking away my last chance” but the “it’s getting so hard, o-ohhh” is too hard to ignore

Easily the best live version of this song, mainly because the relentless "drone" drum was the exact version used on the album version, despite it being a tone down for Phil's voice.
All previous live performances utilized a neutered version.
+PinkLaffs I agree with you. The only knock I have against it, compared to the early live versions, is the fact that Phil's voice sounds almost too clean. I know its many years later, and a step down is better than blowing your voice out, but there's something about that out of control quality in his voice that gives this song its emotion and eery feel when coupled with the instrumentation.
Nevertheless, this is a great version!

All previous versions had an actual drum machine being played live, which is why it sounded different. It wasn't distorted, like on the album.
Wish they would release this concert and the documentary collection on Blu-Ray
why? None of this looks bad in the DVD format when I bought and saw it.

There’s a slight increase in tempo in the drum loop after every second measure on every single recording of Mama from the 2007 tour. The kick drum is a bit early on the first beat of the first measure after the loop restarts.
Sort of sounds like that’s where the sound file loops and they cut it a hair too short. Great performance none the less though.

I wish Genesis had more songs that were darker like this: this song is so much better than most "dark" songs out there by leaps and bounds.

The exact day after I was born
The moment around 3.30 when the cargo net is raised and suddenly -in the middle of the show- the stage gets bigger and the ambience even more intriguing with the indirect lightning is EPIC. This tour has one of the best designs I've seen in a rock concert, every single light effect and projection made to enhance the songs' impact!
Chester and are Tony are the best
Lowering the key takes some of the edge off of those higher notes, but If he can't hit them then I guess there isn't much else you can do.
