  • CAPACITOR IS WIDELY USED IN INDUSTRY TO IMPROVE POWER FACTOR. BUT CAPACITORS NEED A SERIES REACTOR TO LIMIT THE STARTING INRUSH CURRENT. ALSO THIS SERIES LC CIRCUIT ACTS LIKE A HARMONICS FILTER. THIS SERIES REACTOR IS ALSO CALLED DETUNED REACTOR. AND THE CAPACITOR BANK IS CALLED DETUNED FILTER. SO IN THIS VIDEO WE SEE HOW THE SERIES REACTOR, AND CAPACITOR IS CALCULATED.

    Thanks for the video, I still could not understand how will you check the power factor of a system.
    The required Power factor.. Ok can be assumed but please explain how will you calculate PF of complete system. I mean.
    If you have a residential building of 10 floors with a plant room, which accommodate the pumps and heavy AC system .
    Now for individuals motor the PF will be written on the name plate but when you consolidate into its panel (sub panels), then main panels and substation.... How will you calculate the complete PF of system.. Ultimately the Power factor control panel will be connected to the main panel. Hope you understand my explanation.
    It also mean while calculating the connected load we aggregate the total individual wattage so we have total watts, now to derive a ampere we assume the PF to be some value but we cannot derive the PF from the same as it was assumption.
    Kindly clarify please

    HI, can you please explain why we are using the sqt of 3 in the current equation, I am making a pf corrector for a vfd and I feel a little bit confused with it.
    if we are considering this as a single phase branch so KVAr=I*V without using sqt of 3
    v in this case to be considerd V line to neutral then later VXL sqr of 3 is used, I am missing something here, would you be so kind to explain that in more details.
    Thank you in advance.

      actually the voltage and current are line to line voltage and line current only. if you calculate power with line to line voltage and line current you have to multiply by 1.732. i have videos on star delta system. please watch that. i hope your doubts wil be cleared

      You are absolutely right. This is because inductive voltage drop phasor and capacitive voltage drop phasor are 180 deg out of phase.
      However, one point that this gentleman has missed is the star delta conversion which is the soul to thi design. After you have found out the Xc you need to transfer it to equivalent delta connection. This way delta Xc will be 3*Xc . Please note that almost all capacitor bank in LT system is delta connected. So you have dovthis change.

    In voltage drop across the inductor why (sqrt3) multiply?

    • @pijushdhar7310
      @pijushdhar7310 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is the most relevant query which almost everyone has overlooked. You have all along done calculation on per phase basis. Why suddenly you multiply
      Y the voltage drop with root3. In fact voltage drop is always a phase parameter. But interestingly if you do your calculation strictly on per phase basis you will arrive at the same thing. Here is how the calculation goes
      Per phase voltage drop = 65.61 * 4.37 = 286.71 volts
      Per phase Cap voltage = (6600*1.1/1.732)+286.59=4.48kv
      Per phase Cap KVAR = 4.48^2*1000/62.45=321.38kvar
      So three phase kvar =3*321.38=964kvar
      So even when the line voltage increases to 1 .732*4.48=7.76kv this will work satisfactorily.
      But generally the cap banks are connected in delta in LV network and in that case the calculation will done considering star delta transformation.
      The end result will be as follows:
      Capacitance value in delta connected cap unit: 17micro farad
      Xc = 187.2 ohm
      Ic = 37.88 A
      Voltage grade of each cap unit= 7.76 kv
      Kvar rating of each cap unit = 321.38 kvar
      HOPE EVERYBODY HAS UNDERSTOOD THIS
