I returned this camera after a month of use. The tracking was “jerky” and delayed (most people were only recorded at the end of their movement within the detection range). This could be a PIR limitation but the other issue was mounting. I ended up using the strap to mount to a gutter downspout after trying to mount upside down in an eve due to my house having rock walls that I did not want to drill into. The issue with mounting upside down is the limitation of adjustability in viewing angle while upside down (you are limited in the tilt down). On the plus side, the spot lights are bright and better than the other Argus models.
I wish Reolink had a priority override on their tracking, like if it's tracking a vehicle, it switches to people tracking if someone exits the vehicle.
One of somethings I thing dislike with Reolink cameras is the company releasing them for sell when they still have performance issues and reliability problems. Reolink can’t convince me that they don’t know their cameras don’t have the same issues as their customers do when they purchase them some of them. Example I am wondering why they offer this camera for sale with only one type of mounting position or the other performance issues that were shown in Hacksters videos. I guess I will continue to purchase them from Amazon and keep returning them over and over if there is something in my opinion that isn’t right with them . I had purchased 2 Track mix cameras and having gone through my time and labor installing them only to have them not work properly and myself spending hours on support my time is worth something to me. The first reolink camera I purchased was the Argus Pt when it first came out about five years ago - it pretty much a basic camera compared to offerings today. I just like the camera in todays video with a cheap mount that Reolink knew it had issues with its cheap mount yet they sold it anyways. If Reolink really cared about its customers and its reputation it seems like they would make sure their cameras are worth selling before offering them to its customers. Until then I will continue to purchase the cameras I migh like and then returning them if they have various issues which has to cost them money and their reputation through reviews. Thank You BTW The newer Argus Pt Ultra is a very decent camera that so far after 2 months I truly like most everything about it - it’s a keeper. I install security cameras to my customers but I also offer them a money back warranty if they have issues with them.
I purchased one of these about four months ago and returned it because of mostly the same issues you tested. Then about one month ago LOL I received one for my 78th birthday from my adult grandkids and I didn’t have the heart to return it. My grandsons installed it for me LOL basically using the same holes I had made to install the one I had returned. Must to my surprise I actually really like this camera now with most if its issues it has being resolved. I had some concrete work done on my front sidewalk with six men working on it. It was fun watching the video from the camera trying to determine which person it should watch. It actually did a very good job following the guy it has originally had started to follow. If only this camera had more mounting options something I still can’t figure out Reolinks lack of thinking about it. I have four cams all Reolinks in the front of my house and my favorite one is the Argus Pt Ultra with this Trax being the second out of the four. But I still like the first Argus PT I purchased about six years ago now that over the years it’s had upgrades to make it better but still not all of the fancy things. Thanks
thanks for the detailed review! I think the license plate test needs to be done for night time as well for bothe coloured and infra red mode. My Argus 2 usually can't read the license plate at night because the IR lights bounces off the plates I think. I was wondering if Reolink has improved this through software. Even thought the hardware has improved, I am disappointed that the software and capture start time hasn't improved by much. In fact, as you've shown, it has regressed, like the time it takes to view the camera feed on the app is longer compared to Argus 2 I feel. The direction control of the camera is laggy or unresponsive as well.
1. Could I wrap this around my rain downspout? 2. Can you use full wall power instead of the solar panel if you can make it work? (as in, if you could run direct power and just use that instead)
Always informative reviews, you do a good job. Only minor criticism is as I live in the UK during the winter when temps where close to 0 Celsius I had a Reolink 2k battery dual which was solar powered and worked within spec. My battery Trackmix however wouldn't charge unless it was at least 12 Celsius outside even though specs say 0-60 due to battery protection. Guess the dual was better insulated from the elements? I understand your Texas right? You don't have to give the temperature a second thought. Personal problem in my case I guess but just thought might be worth a mention as you have a world reach 👍 keep it up, your the main source when I was looking for home options.
I always recommend if you live in an area when temperature goes down, any battery device is not going to work reliably if it is going to work at all and not just cameras. You remember the Tesla charging fiasco a few months back? Wired or plugged in is the way to go.
@@LifeHackster sorry might have missed the reference. It's funny as every other product has had no issues before and even when it was below still charged. Just this Trackmix caught me out I guess. Electric is the future 😉
Thanks for the review. Very helpful. Quick question. - Can this cam used with a local NAS? - Can it be set-up and used when the the router disables internet access?
I think I will stick with the Trackmix battery one because that 110degree comes in handy . I don't want no blind spots UPDATE: I have the Argus Track to monitor my front yard and it is amazing for the purpose. Night vision is good as well as the spotlights .
I bought a TrackMix and was considering getting this for my second one, but after this review I'm curious why someone would buy this over the Trackmix?
I have a Reolink TrackMix wifi solar. Which is the better camera, the TrackMix or this slightly newer camera? I'm looking to replace 2 older cameras and need advice which is better. The locations will be wall mounted.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on the new refreshed Lumus 4MP. I just replaced an old Lumus with this new one and it is incredible by comparison. Hope you do a review of it soon.
Good review I think I'll wait until a newer firmware is available to fix any minor issues before giving this cam a try. Looks like it It shouldn't have the set point drifting problem.
I have the Reolink-800b8 camera system and I need to add (2) wired cameras at my gates. I have two entry places that I need great quality night time coverage. What do you recommend?
It seems you've got a bad unit, mine is working normally, since a month and it seems reliable. But indeed, the wifi signal need a better firmware, some problems with that part. The tracking/zoom and speed are a joy, to compare with other ptz cameras. This camera can be installed as designed but it's quite a specific position/angle. So, I placed mine exactly how I wanted, with simple tricks, to have it horizontal, for exemple. I thought this was a regular cute ptz but I'm pretty sure it's an advanced generation. It goes back precisely to its positons, for exemple..
Hi, your review is good and I am your long term viewer. For each review hope you can do review for night time maximum distance detection performance with how long notification takes to pop up on handphone. As I also concern about night time surveillance performance.
With PIR based cameras or battery powered ones, detection range should be the same as in daytime because the sensor doesn't care if it is day or night and it should be around 20-30 feet.
You should do a review on the tracking modes because there is a big difference between them. Pan and tilt first allows the zoom camera to stay zoomed in on the target everytime its moves where as the digital tracking first resets its zoom every time it moves.. camera looks better compare to the trackmix but thats my opinion but id definitely get a poe version if there is a poe version
Your reviews are always informative and fun to watch. Ultimately I decided to go for the 823A because of its very good night performance. Now I was wondering if it is possible to use a larger Micro SD card than 256GB. I know that Reolink officially support a maximum of 256GB, but many devices such as dashcams also appear to work well with larger cards than specified. Has anyone ever tried a 512GB Micro SD card in a Reolink camera?
I've an Arus Eco first generation for a few years now still works like new I call it old faithful it's never failed me. It's to the point where I bought the latest Argus Eco Ultra to replace it but I don't wanna say bye to old faithful lol. But overall I would recommend the Argus 3 pro. Currently have 2 of those for a years now still running strong.
Great video Lifehackster. I have a question for you have you heard anything about the Eufy Cross Camera tracking becoming a Premium feature. I noticed I have an invitation to try it out with my S330 cameras. However , wasn’t it a big selling point as part of the E330 cameras and now they may lose the feature to a paid premium subscription. I have the E340 spotlight camera and it would be great to use camera cross tracking with my S330s cameras. Perhaps this is a video worthy topic to discuss?😊
I heard and saw that it will become a paid feature. Personally, I don't see the use of it because you are not able to download the stitched footage. You can only view it in the app.
Is there a camera like this with multiple pir sensors that can look 360 degrees with WiFi, solar and battery? Looking for a good remote option, I do have WiFi but SIM isn't out of the question. Perhaps I'll need a plug in camera that uses a standalone battery with solar, just not sure what's the best option.
does the camera continue to record on the SD card as long as there is movement? I find that on the Argus 2, it usually records for 30 seconds to about 1 minutes 30 seconds and then stops recording even though there is still movement outside. It's about 2 years old now and sometimes it doesn't even detect any movement at all even though the post man's van is just outside.
Does the track mix physically move to track people who go past the wide angle shot or does it only digitally zoom in to track what is in the fixed position?
Does anyone happen to know why we can’t use Reolink cameras motion detection with Alexa similar to the Amazon blink cameras? They can link to echo show but they don’t seem to support an audio announcement of motion is detected etc. which would be good to use with any Alexa speaker. Any opinions on this please?
I was waiting for this review.. its still a cool camera for what it does vs Ring radar nonsense. 4k video quality is good and Audio is very good.. I have the trackmix and i think its one of the best Ptz cameras i bought.. I think I will stick to my Reolink Trackmix until they do a update on this which i'm sure they will.. The odd thing is Reolink keeps pumping out cool stuff Yet Ring has not put out anything worth reviewing or Mention for years.. usually in the spring they put out new products from ring.. and Nothing.. You lose your enthusiasm for Ring cause of this. Reolink isnt perfect but its in the top 3 of Homeowner security system. I also notice you may have the Eufy solar camera Mounted on your pole not too far from Argus. will there be a review on that soon?
We always watch your channel before buying any security cameras, but our experience with 2 separate Reolink Cameras has been terrible, their products are of poor quality and their customer service is well aware of that. This is the reason why their customer service will just do lip service asking you to try this or that option so as to prolong the communications & they wait for the warranty end date to arrive fast.
That's the one thing that I don't like about reolink camers is because it takes forever for the feed to load on the battery cameras, I don't know about POE or the other ones but the battery ones they take forever.
How do you only have 224k followers?!? Very underrated.

Very balanced and unbiased review, well done brother.
Much appreciated!
Omg so happy we're in the era of battery motion tracking cameras, thx for giving the heads up on this tech 👍🏾
Thanks for watching!

If you want to a wall powered cam you might as well get the Track Mix POE version.
1. Yes, it includes the strap.
2. If you can plug this in, go with a wired or POE Reolink. It is more reliable than battery powered one.

love your work! would you say this works good in closeup, if you use it as a birdfeeder camera for example?
I enjoy your videos very much. Really looking forward to the comparison with single lens reolink cameras.
So what is a better choice for outdoor 4G LTE solar camera?
I have a Reolink TrackMix wifi solar. Which is the better camera, the TrackMix or this slightly newer camera? I'm looking to replace 2 older cameras and need advice which is better. The locations will be wall mounted.

I suppose you could install it on a wedged shape mounting block so the camera points downward towards the ground for a better tilt angle?
The mount itself already has a downward slope and the camera when right side up can tilt down 50 degrees.
Very good review like always! top Quality. the firmware of the cam like the app software looks very messy and buggy IMO
Thanks for watching

LH! If you had a pick 1 reolink camera to buy to try out (I use eufy mostly) which model would you recommend? Non POE.
I've an Arus Eco first generation for a few years now still works like new I call it old faithful it's never failed me. I’ll go with any of their wired WIFi first like trackmix WiFi or Duo 2 WiFi. For Battery power, their Eco Ultra or Argus 3 Pro are good choices.
Would this camera work with the ReoLink App on PC also?
Thank you.
You're welcome!

Reolink Argus Track vs SoloCam S350 who is best for video quality?
I need a pole mounted tracker but it needs to be POE. it would be out of my wifi range and I want a hard copy recording of it.
There is the PoE Trackmix or the 823A.
What is their highest FPS camera?
@lifehackster does the sensor lose tracking when is recording at night with NO spotlights on? I can see the issue with spotlight on.
With spotlights ON like on the footage that I have shown in the video.
does the camera continue to record on the SD card as long as there is movement? I find that on the Argus 2, it usually records for 30 seconds to about 1 minutes 30 seconds and then stops recording even though there is still movement outside.

Wondering what’s the real detection range of this camera?
Does the track mix physically move to track people who go past the wide angle shot or does it only digitally zoom in to track what is in the fixed position?
It moves
I wonder if this product can mask some images because my neighbors don't want to be photographed.
Thank you for your review, i almost bought this camera and now i know it is useless for me to check up on my cat when she sits on the driveway.
Can you review the new reolink rlc 823s2?
I have to check it out.

does this have continuous recording
Can I add it to the reolink nvr?
Not NVR compatible???

Wow it doesn't come with the solar panel... They can keep it😢
It does come with it.
It comes in the bundle.
Reolink lost me at 105degrees
15 fps and max 128 gb sd card support is joke.
yea, they have 4k recording with limited storage space
horrible wind noise in recording
Battery cameras sucks badly, there is a big delay in waking up
I’ll pass on this one. Needs some work
Mount seems weak. I could rip that camera off with one hand.
That's the one thing that I don't like about reolink camers is because it takes forever for the feed to load on the battery cameras, I don't know about POE or the other ones but the battery ones they take forever.
is there a setting to record at motion detection only? To save on battery life.
