All the details are wonderful and so necessary to know. I knew about the problems with light (even bright light such as with indirect light from the sun), the burn tests (yep, definitely fun!), and other info bits about fiber from having sewed for many years plus having learned to weave (really need to get my loom up and running again or the spinning wheel). I haven't tried growing and processing my own flax to make linen; small yard but I might try a small patch anyway. I was interested to hear about foam core board usage. I've always wondered if it was really worth using or not. I'd rather have my stitching rolled up in a basket rather than risk outgassing from that. So many modern synthetics are truly incompatible with natural goods. I do wonder about how artificial lighting affects textiles and fibers. There are so many types and it's hard to know which is better or worse for textiles. For instance, if I hang my samplers in the hallway where no sunlight reaches, which type of lighting will not cause damage to the pieces. Is LED better than incandescent (near impossible to get)? I do remember viewing the First Ladies Inaugural gowns at Smithsonian Museum many years ago in the 80s , I think, (when it was a choice of incandescent or florescent lights) and they used very low wattage incandescent lighting. No cameras were permitted to be used in that display because someone would try to take a picture with a flashbulb. All the gowns were in climate controlled glass cases. I also have questions about the products we use to create our works. Will some that are more processed like overdyed goods not last as long as simple naturally dyed items? Or does modern processing even become a factor because it's the care after creating a piece that's the defining factor? Oh, I have so many more questions but it's unfair to post them all here. I don't live far from Mount Vernon, Woodlawn or Gunston Hall. I could go there and quiz the staff.
