    This van looks like a good candidate for Power Tour 2025. I didn’t know there was no hood opening on the front fascia. I’ve only seen a few on the road maybe 45 years ago.

    I go kind of original, looking with automatic, and maybe some fat tires in a few extra seats in the back. Make it a boogie van

    I'm no expert on those vans but I think it would be well worth fixing it up. I'd probably do a mild custom on it if it were mine. Could be a cool PowerTourer one day.

    The 1969 Chevy Van 108 sells for much higher than the late 80's van. I'd say this van is worth a little restoration. Go for it. After all other projects are done.

    Build it custom for next year's hot rod power tour. I would do maybe a slightly larger straight 6 automatic and customize interior to your liking and paint and body of your choice but those wheels even look good on it. Normally not a van person but I like that one

  • @CW-user
    @CW-user 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    Interesting find and worth the price. How far to go? Depends how much of a van guy you are. If you do it, I think going for a hotrod look like you did with the Nomad would be the way to go. It does not look beat to heck and it ran, good signs right there. The biggest downer is the manual transmission.

    I’ve owned vans (modernist) for almost 30 yrs. Always had a window in the off side so I can see down the street backing up, This one being a classic I’d be hesitant to put too many in.If I was camping I’d have a van tent set up and live with the doors open. Very cool truck and greetings from Australia

    I have a 73 Dodge van I’ve been restoring since 2021. Giving it a custom paint job myself or it would be done. Should be finished this year.
    Someone rattle canned my van and of course the paint was going to hell. I used paint stripper to get the cheap paint off, then stripped it with a grinder. It would take some time to do the body and paint, but you work pretty fast any way.
    Mechanicals are real basic. You can get parts pretty cheap for it. Stick with the six and 3 speed imo. Just need to get some more 15” tires and wheels if you want them to look fancy. I find used GM 15x4 3/4” mags all the time on FB and a lot of the 14”.
    You have lots of parts vans to take parts from. You need a seat similar to the drivers seat for yours. The captain chairs will only work in the second row.
    The door seals for your van are under $150 on eBay for all of them! Cat whiskers or window sweeps are more.
    I would get some single stage enamel white paint like you have used in other projects and shoot that. If you want to paint some stripes or flames 🔥 on it-you can do that. It’s a blank canvas like you say.
    I never thought I would be into vans until I bought my 73 and started to realize how much fun it was making it my own. Like you said you can do whatever.
    The vans without windows are the most desirable. So I might put a small port hole window in the back, but I wouldn’t stick a big rectangular window in it cuz it just doesn’t fit the era of your van.
    The A/C isn’t a huge deal for an old van. Most of them didn’t have it in the 60s and early 70s.
    Fix it up. You are going to love driving this old beast once you get it on the road!
    PS please don’t Scooby Doo it! There’s too many of them out there. Put some daisies and peace signs if nothing else! lol 😂

Check your cartoons but I’m pretty sure the mystery machine was a Chevy not a econoline .. Them chevys like that one seem to be rarer then the fords of that era . I’d definitely put some time and energy into that one .. when ya gonna find another one ? Matter fact you’re the first TH-camr I’ve seen w/ one that works on older cars .

    Cool old van! It won't be bad driving it without power steering. Vehicles built without powersteering aren't near as hard to drive as vehicles that the power steering has went out. I drove a Ford pickup for 27 years and it never had power steering. That'll be a cool van fixed up nice. 👍

    I owned a '67 Chevy 108 wb van from 1971 til 1977. It was the panel van with a 283 ci V8 and 2 speed automatic. A grt van. It had been converted to a camper with pop top roof, stove, frig, sink & propane heater. Worked very well for winter camping. Wish I had kept it. Rebuilt the motor, the king pin straight axle front end, yadda yadda. Best mpg I got was 19 on flat ground in OK. The small V8 worked great for this truck. Took it cross country many times. Only 'bad' safety feature : yer legs are out in front of most of the structure for any kind of front collision. By the early 70s the big 3 van mfrs moved the front seats back for more protection.

    WOW Lee you're taking me back I had in the mid 70's and 80's several vans I customized. My first one was a 67 GMC looked just like the one you have, with three on the tree and a 283 that got about 50 miles to a quart of oil. Found a 327 in a salvage yard switched them out. Ran like a bat out of hell with the 327. Even opened a little shop called Cincy Street Vans with a friend of mine, Good Times, Good Times. Well have fun with her they were great vans. Oh I forgot to mention the van was 3 or 4 hundred dollars and the 327 I think I gave 75.00. If you do keep her don't put windows on the side instead find someone to paint a mural on the driver side of Puppy and Nikki that would be very cool. Whatever you do keep having fun with your builds and we will be here watching.

    I remember back when I was growing up there was one of these Vans parked at my buddy's storage lot had a custom paint job on it but the best part about it is it had a fully built 327 with two fours on it. When I mean built it was built to the hilt. I never heard it run but the guy eventually just lost interest in it and ended up selling it for 500 bucks. I wished I would have been around cuz it was a real showpiece, it even had custom interior. A shaggin wagon for the 70s.

    I had a same year Ford van, small block automatic, so much fun to drive, it's a totally different feel than anything else. I love the slotted wheels, and as to how far you should take it? I'd say make it run and drive without the help of a gas jug, maybe paint it. Also, where I live, a State Trooper will come out and do the vin for you. Not sure if it's the same where you live, might be worth checking.

    @keithroute8906 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    That van is very cool. With nice rims, tires and a killer paint job and that thing will have value to the right person. It looks like a 69 for sure. I understand the dents, got in to paintless dent repair a few years back, I ended up using it on old cars even though most of the tools are designed for modern thin metal cars. The process is the same, it just takes understanding how to remove dents, I watched you do a job with your machine and that worked great. I think any repair comes down to speed and quality depending on the car. Some cars are worthy of a concourse restoration and 90 to 95% will never be worth that. That van has potential, great year, nice styling.

    I have never seen one of these vans before. In fact, I never knew that Chevrolet had vans in the 60s! I have seen channels working on Econolines, A100s, etc, but never in one of these. Maybe you could rob some parts like brakes, interior, window stripping and other stuff from the vans, SUVs and cars you have in your property to save money on the build? I think this could be a very nice project for your channel.

    I’d paint it hugger orange with a white top and put on some GM rally wheels and RWL tires.

    Puddins fab shop just picked one of those up. It's a flux core against a full fab shop build off. I'll be commenting on his channel to check yours out. You have to build it now.

    The "108" emblem/model, refers to the wheel base. It is a 108" wheel base van. They made a short w/b which was 90" and a long w/b (yours) 108". I had a 68 short w/b 6cyl, 3 on the tree, white. Lots of fond memories. And if you bought this thing for $800, you should be ashamed of yourself for robbing that man blind. Lol
