- I start a new build with a 1977 Malibu Classic that has been severely rusted out in the past. It pretty much needs a complete body swap, so let's get started! In this video I weld on the roof and install all the glass.
I also install some new lights in my shop.

There in nothing worse than waiting for someone that doesn’t show up
Por 15 should sponsor this channel , your definitely doing the car justice by stopping the rust, it’ll last forever 🎉
When you are done, I have a feeling Art is gonna call and want to buy his car back
I was thinking the same thing.
Hope that neighbor never needs a favor ! The car is really coming together like a puzzle you get to make the pieces for ! lol
Lee, you should go buy all those odd colour paints. Make him an offer and bring them home. You’d come up with some great paint jobs. Like the old square body’s two tone! Came out great.
I'm thinking about it
Silver would look awesome
Here from Santa's Workshop channel 👍👍
Welcome!!
Lee, get yourself a couple of saw horse kits and put long legs on them with cross pieces to span the car . Suspension the roff with straps from the saw horses., I have built some crazy stuff with that system.
Lee, charcoal grey would look awesome on that car. It makes the chrome on it pop! Just my opinion of course.
Black Car with red pin stripes!! Just like in the day "77"........
Kudos on that roof installation!
My vote for color is go back to silver like original. I remember seeing a lot of 77-78 GM cars in silver with the red/maroon interior back in the late 70s.
Thanks
Yesss! So glad you are considering going back silver. Over the red interior that wlll look bad ass.
🏁 Awesome job Lee!! 🇺🇲🏁🏁🏁😎🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁
Thanks
Don’t worry about camera angles, the content is fine as it is. I find the videos informative and entertaining. Like the wide tires and Cragar wheels on the black Malibu.
Thanks
Hey chatty Kathy u do awesome work😂
Dang Lee. Don't hurt yourself. But man. What a great job👍very impressive 💯🙏
Thanks
Cardboard for package tray may burn with the heat out there...Try masonite or 1/4" plywood & cover with piece of thin rug.....looking Good!!
Hey you have a good show and I like the fact that you paint the cars and not do the patina crap so thumbs up from Texas
Thanks
Painted a two-tone top half silver bottom half black I think that would look good like watching your videos❤❤
Thanks
Man I thought the Nomad was a lot of work but you got this Good Stuff 👍🏻
Thanks
Also on the quarter glass if you’ve got one of the parts cars with the stainless door edge guard you could cut it to fit that edge. I think it would work.
Fast becoming my favorite channel! The fact that you do these rebuilds as cost effective as possible and that you do realistic builds where you use what you got. Most people would just part that old girl out but when you got a parts car and a lot of ambition, why not attempt this type of build? Keep up the great work!
Thanks
You are doing a great job on something that most people wouldn’t even attempt. My opinion is black. Keep up the good work. Stay safe.
Thanks
Enjoying this build Lee. That is a ton of effort you are putting in. Looking forward to the next episode. Thanks for taking us along! ..BTW still voting for silver
Thanks
Mine was the same as this one, without the rust, same rims same interior and I had a 400 small block Chevy motor she was a beast. I'm lovin this build.
You could use cardboard for the headliner backing if you’re careful I think. The package tray I’ve done that cardboard with oriellys trunk or toolbox liner gray they sell in rolls glued over top in gray it does amazing and looks good and is cheap. I don’t comment much but that is a very hard job you’re doing and that will make a good solid car !
Built, not bought, indeed. :D
I was anxious for you after you cut the roof off. It was kind of the beginnings of a bad ass looking Mad Max style convertible. Great work, as always.
Thanks
Amazing job putting that roof on. To be honest I would never attempt that. It’s looking great. Can’t wait for the next video!
Thanks
Thanks for keeping the classic cars surviving. True inspiration to the trade as well. Right on , man.
Thanks
My mother owned a beautiful blue 77 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme all loaded like this car with a white vinyl top. What a car that baby was until my brother took it for a joy ride when he was 14 no license and side swiped an 18 wheeler the dink. Moving right along nicely Lee, you're a badass! 😉✌
Tell the kids to throw away there plastic cars. these were what real cars were made of.and it takes real bodymen to bring em back.peace...
I totally get being a “one man show”. I run into the same situations myself. Have to schedule a time with my son or whoever just to get 10 minutes of help once in while. Sometimes you just can’t do something yourself and it sucks having to come to a standstill just because you have to wait for a helping hand. I feel your pain buddy.
It’s coming along nicely you surely have your work cut out but I love you tackle jobs most people don’t want to try great job ill keep watching
Thanks
Really enjoying this build Lee!! Very interesting!!!!
Thanks
Lookin' Good Lee!
Thanks
Lee I'm glad your rebuilding Arts Malibu instead of the gold one...
Good afternoon from Cape Cod ⛵ you certainly are doing some fine work Lee, I think black will look fabulous. Keep up the great work and the awesome content 👍✌️🇺🇲
Thanks
I also think two tone silver and black
You sure aren't afraid to take on a major rebuild, If I attempted that I would have to have custom windows made to fit the new spaces. I agree the Landau is worth much more than the plain model. I would just go back with black if it were me. A friend of mine had a '73 Laguna that was black with tinted windows back in the 80's, It also had Cragars with a little rake and it was a nice looking ride.
UPS brown! I’ve always wanted an old 70s Camaro in brown!
The Malibu will look amazing silver with the red interior. If you don’t have enough silver, perhaps some black stripes would leave you enough silver? Or a two tone black and silver?
it would look good silver
I'm glad to see your pretty casual about this build. The camaro kinda seem to get to you. This is awesome watching resurrection of a 70s car that some would have crushed. I actually enjoy this style and the old school wheels. Your cruisin on this build man!!! You have my attention!!!👍👍👍💪🍻
Thanks
Keep up the good work would look right going with black and new tint later when time allows
Great job Lee, im really enjoying this build its a big one! I think a dark silver would look classy on the old girl 👍 keep up the good work.
Thanks
Really looking great that top fit on really well!
Thanks
You can take the balist out of your shop lights wire nuts the wires together. Buy l.e.d bulbs. Easy to do.
Awesome job! That thing is really coming along. I’d definitely love to see it in the original silver, but if you’re doing black jambs you might as well do the whole thing in black
Thanks
Dammit i think you saved that car! Love your practical work!
Thanks
Looking great Lee ! Actually that car would look good a black urethane paint, maybe add a little metallic flake and clear coat in the last couple coats. 😜
I love those little back windows on that car. When I was a kid in 80s I would stare out those little windows sittin in the back seat with the 80s music my mom would have on.
You are such a motivated person LEE!! Make me not to give up on my projects 👍🏻 I love these body styles my dad had one brand new with 350 four speed factory 🤘🏻hugg to Nikki ✌🏻❤️🎶🎵🏁
Damn that would have been neat and definitely a rare car nowadays
Thanks
Ok man you are doing a great job as ALWAYS next video i don't miss not a one SIR GO AT GOD,S SPEED
Thanks
One hell of a big job, looking like a ca again. I used to have a 75. Keep up the good work.
Thanks
Honestly, I like everything you do... Keeping the original paint, jam and everything out in a different color is a total pain in the ass. But if you want to change colors, that's your prerogative.. The only people you'll ever offend will be the purest. All the time that you have involved and just this project alone.. is massive cutting and sectioning. The only people that appreciate any of that is the people that have done it like myself. Only thing I have to say personally... Is my wrist start hurting as soon as you pull out a paintbrush.. you need to get yourself a couple of weenie rollers and roll all that paint😂
Gutsy move, changing that roof... very impressive. A couple of shipping containers would make a huge difference in organizing your shop... maybe someone down your way would wheel and deal you some. Really enjoy your channel... I love seeing the old hopeless cars brought back to life. Thanks!
Thanks
Thanks.
I know you’re a perfectionist. The Classic Malibu. Will be just like a new one.Not going to tell you your business. Because when it comes to body work. There’s no one any better. Thank you for showing the progress on your car. To top it off we have light !
❤️💯👊👍
Thanks
Clunkers and classics you couldn't get any better than this total rebuild Malibu Classic it would have been nice to have it silver but like you said hard to find the black is the next best color I think with the red it's going to look great for what you're doing I think rebuild someone else would have to do a complete registration this is dang near a complete registration list I'd like to see when it's finished I think it's going to be great you put all the rust preventatives paint it all inside Trunks and wheel wells all sealed up windows it won't be no leaks this car I'll be around for a long time I didn't know that the Chevelle had to swing out bucket seats I like that that is rare and like for me I'm old that's perfect to get in and out I'll be waiting to see what you're going to do on the sides when you get it painted this will be awesome
Thanks
Lookin good man. You've got a lot done in a short amount of time. Looking forward to watching the progress. Good job so far Lee.
Thanks
Doing great cars coming together quick 👍💯
Thanks 👍
Lee you are doing a awesome job. I'd paint it black and if you want you could do silver stripes opposite of the nova, as far as some people getting things like what we do with old cars they never will. Keep up the good work
Thanks. I think I'm going with that paint scheme.
@@clunkersandclassics good choice! 👍
Lowe's has the ballets for those fluorescent lights. I was just there and saw them in the lighting section . I believe they were in the first aisle of lighting.
G'day mate awesome lee go the black paint mate will be heaps better. All the best buddy 👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺
Thanks
I would go black with met red rally sport stripes. then put 2nd gen camaro rally wheels on it. just a thought.
I've seen these Malibu's in well kept condition in the Silver Metallic color, it looks awesome! Should you choose to paint the car that color anyway. Like you I am having to work on my 81' out in the elements, Still have yet to finish my own patch welds, something went wrong with the Urethane Primer I used and I am having to spray can Filler in area's I am smoothing out. Last few days have been super hot and windy, either one of these is mostly my hold up from painting, though I am close. Watching this build, it's building my Motivation back up for my own project.
Great jab as usual man, love the work you do and the hard work
you are never afraid to to take it all the way. I wish I could afford too buy one of those beauties! 😊
Thanks
I get it. I totally get it.
Wow …really coming along …nice to see Art’s car looking good. Your going to have to show him his old ride after your done 👍🏻
Thanks
Awesome no other word for what you do
Thanks
Looking good
Thanks 👍
Looking good.👍
Thanks
Great job lee
Thanks
Nice work. Keep it going.
Thanks!
I love it go weigh
Good job!
Thanks!
Nice work thank you
Thanks
Man I like your videos, it can't get any more real.
Thanks
I really dig how your doing this man u have vision my brother and some mad skill god bless
Thanks
Sweet ! 🧁🧁🧁
Paint it brown and the trim that goes around the corner window they had them and not just because they had a vinyl top you should put them on
Awesome!🔥🔨🔩🔧🛠
Mr. B. Here ! 🍩👀☕️😎👍
I don't think there is any project you won't tackle.🙂
Silver
Lights are good but if you painting cars there dust will settle on them. Get a extension pipe on your air hose and blow them off before painting and you move car in.
Seen a guy weld hooks on and pull out dents. No fancy tool needed.
Maybe make a fast convertible out the gold car. It runs. Put quarters back on. Summer cruiser. But when it’s 95 you need cover.
I get it, the Gold car was bare bones...nothing special. What gets me bummed is the window clips. So it's kinda a hope purchase..you hope they fit for what they're for.
Where do you get the confidence to tackle these projects?
I've been doing this a long time
I think it would look very good silver and is it a landau if it doesn't have a vinyl top?
I’d paint it British racing green. Silver boring. Black needs to be perfect. Gold old fashioned. White plain Jane. Green the way to go.
Don't you just love having to rely on people...!!
Body by fisher now body by Lee ask for a lift from sponsor even small 2 foot could help you
Good educational video as always. Are these cars worth the effort ? It’s a lot of work….. I agree that they look good though.
Man you need A leg, I built a pocket set A leg so I would have 100% movement side to side, used a 10” beam and 2.7/8 pipe and slid 3” pvc pipe over pipe so I don’t scuff my doors when getting in & out. Best 100.00 I’ve ever spent building it
they discontinued the ones for mine years ago.
It's all fun and games until you realy just need a hand. I can't help but wonder how many other cars have the same sweet dune buggy potential hidden under their skin.
paint it black.....it would look good with red interior
If there is still time, paint it black.
I enjoy watching your and I know about working alone but as you are videoing I see you have a engine hoist why not use it to pick up the top.
wouldn't be able to get it high enough
Hey, Lee where's Nikki and the kitties ?
