Nomad misfire problems - No HRPT this year? - 2 to 4 barrel carb swap on 1976 El Camino

- I've decided not to do Hot Rod Power Tour this year. I try and diagnose a misfire on the 1968 Nomad. I put a Chinese knockoff carb on the 1981 Silverado and do a 2 to 4 barrel carb swap on the 1976 El Camino.

She's a beautiful dog❤️👍💯
Hey Lee..just for curious..I would do a cylinder compression test on each cylinders..if nothing than do a leak down test..just to make sure..hope that will help out.
Can't blame you on the power tour stuff. Nice to see Nikki doing well.👍
Had same problem on 02 ls. tried same as you. carbon buildup on top of piston caused it to detonate slightly early causing misfire. Fuel injection clener added to high octane for next six tanks cured mine. My acceleration was same as yours before I got it fixed. Been here since the first, lovin it all brother!
They need to schedule Hot Rod Power Tour near the fall or towards the winter time when it's cool so we can bring our pets with us..
You got some cool rides in that yerd! Thanks for sharing what you know
Thanks
Love the el Camino throw a couple coats of clear on it, can see in the bed is shiny.
Nice Camino, it should rip good with that carb and intake now.
The 76 El Camino looks amazing with those wheels! Great stance!
Thanks
He's the one You call Dr feel-good. He's the one that makes your feel alright 💀
God that red el camino sits well .
I really like that a lot
Thanks
When you change the coil and and injectors you've got to bring it to a tuner so they can clear all the old stuff off the ECM r it'll still continue to miss with because the computer thinks it's still has the old part...
That sucks that you are not going on the HRPT, but understandable. It seems my 1st year going, the youtubers that I want to meet are not going this year.
Sweet !
You defiantly have a miss, another thing you can try without throwing parts at it is cleaning the throttle body.that Nomads an absolute gem,😍
drivers side sounds more like exhaust leak somewhere on drivers side
Lee I would try some higher octane in the Nomad maybe some octane booster or the like just for a few tanks maybe ring her out a few times clean up any build up on top of valves just sayin is all and I too have a puppy that I cherish she likes to travel but hates loud noise what do you think about Weatherford man I loved that town lived there a short time but no work.
👍👍👍
Lee, next April, you need to make your way up to kellyville swap meet. Stock up on carbs and intakes.
Ive been to the Tulsa Swap Meet multiple times. Its pretty good and growing
Hey check the number one cylinder lifters … usually stick, if that’s the issues change to ls7 lifters and lifter trays. Also the the car accessories pulley setup might give you a little more clearance in the engine compartment upfront. Good luck 😎💪🏽
Your a GM guy clearly ! lol Throw some new motor mounts on the truck and see if that shaking stops ? Does it have a fuel filter along the frame ? The El Camino runs awesome and with that 4 bbl its going to haul A$$ !
Put a vacuum gauge on the engine and watch the needle for vibration or drop off indicating a valve issue…also u can remove the spark plugs on drivers side and compare them to each other , if there is a mechanical issue you will see it on the spark plug
El Camino looks like a great daily driver. Probably the knock sensor under the intake is going bad on the Nomad. Research the effects of a bad knock sensor. It throws the timing off and the computer tries to compensate but makes the motor miss. Good luck!
If it were a bad coil or injector the miss would follow the part if it was swapped to another cylinder. Compression testing would be on my list but, smoke testing is another way to get it. The throttle position sensor could cause trouble so could the crank sensor but the valves are what i would try and sus out first.
also try doing compression test on the cylinders.
also it could anything like a warped head, warped intake manifold, and its just enough its sucking air a little around the intake, knock sensor... on these new computerized engines you need to determine if its the computer that's causing the misfire intentionally, like if a knock sensor doesn't send the proper signal it will intentially change spark or fuel mix for whatever reason, compensation I spose.. a good mechanic can read your management file and let you now a whole bunch, specially that guy here on youtube found the ground strap on the chevy truck issue... HE IS GOOD
The knock sensors and harness is a common problem , look into that.
I had shake in the engine on my old ford. I chased it and chased it and finally figured out it was a vacuum leak inside the brake booster.
Plug off the vacuum hose to the brake booster and see if it’s still shaking
Texas here / also add more good music in backgrounds
Said it before. Bad valve on nomad. Compression test it and tear the head off. Valve not opening due to a flat cam possibly or it needs a valve. Ive put a few in them 5.3 and 6.0.easy job. Very common. Goodluck
Do a compression test most likely you will find a low one.Yes valve is a good guess, probably exhaust
Take a compression test on your Nomad for a possible weak cyl. or bad valve to find your miss.
Same on the truck.
i had few comes from driveshaft sensor vibration speed and range any way plugs coils wires plus air intake
Did speed not going wow everyone drop like fleas
had the same issue couldn't find where the misfire was at come to find out my battery was weak
Run a compression test you may have leaky rings or a leaky valve.
It might be a bad coil pack not sure if you checked to see if that's the problem!!! 😎
it's not
@@clunkersandclassics Did you figure out what it is? 😎
The slightest vacuum leak near the plenum can cause that.
I do believe you might have a cylinder a going down
Check motor & Trans mounts...if cracked or broken, you'll get a shake in gear cause its on a load......
I was wondering if it had a modulator valve leak.
🗿💨 wander if it bent a pushrod on start up.. valve stem and guide gaulding has increased with current gas.. imo.. ohio is a dumpling ground for stale gas, no state regulation. Regardless, hope you figured it out 👍 thanks for sharing ✌️ Peace
I've gotten into a habit keeping stay bill around to help free valves a bit. Just saying. Enjoy watching your content 👍👍
Sounds like you could have a bad harmonic balancer on the Silverado making it shake
You are a awesome painter cars look good
Thanks
Wouldn't it be more cost effective to clean the dirty intake manifold with a few cans of brake cleaner than buy another one?
it had that egr crapola on it
8 torque screws 3 clips and your air cleaner bolt you can take that edelbrock apart, clean it out with carb cleaner and a rag. Compression test both and it may give you a clue, if your fuel systems are not tainted by time?
I personally prefer to drive the least likely car in the lot to be stolen(rolling junk)
Sounds like a burn t valve very much could be.
Throw the fwd and aft end gaskets away and use black make a gasket.
it is what is just relax get one those cheap ac unit add a inverter keep it straped 110/120 or 1000 watt inverter
just curious. did that motor when in the truck have the cylinder deactivation mode? because maybe the computer in now is either using it or NOT using it. hence when you say when you give it more throttle it felt ok. just a guess there.
It's too old to have the afm
@@longjohn77 ok i mustve misheard what year the truck it was from was. thought i heard 2007.apologies
it's a 2001
Are you sure the coil packs are good?
they are
Drive the GTO man and if you ever want to sell it hit me up
Sounds like a burnt exhaust valve
Cracked spark plug maybe?
no, they're new
You should turn your camera around so people can see the person doing all that restoring on all those cars
You might have a stretched timing chain on the truck u can prob advance the distributor a bit and smooth it out
Sounds like u have a burnt valve or a bad lifter .if u have replaced all the wires coils plugs and injectors.drivi v it on power tour prob burnt a valve driving it on a miss
And I would check the push rods
Never use those rubber gaskets on the end of the intake they are junk just put a bead of silicone much better
make AC great again
