I own a 1976 912E Paid 10,500 for it in 1983, It handles great, railroad tracks you could not feel and turning sharp it did not throw you sideways. The only thing it needed was a stronger clutch and at about 112mph the fuel pump could not keep up with the engine and the doors were leaking out the seals from the pressure build up, maybe I should have my venting set on recirculate, I bought it for its look and because I could not afford a 911. Best investment I made, now it is worth 2 times what I paid for it. Mine never smelled like burnt oil, oil leaks are not inherent in them so i don't know why a guy here was saying they all smell like oil. It got great gas mileage and was multi port fuel injected when most all other cars in 1976 were not. It was fast enough for me but then I had a 350hp 327 68 vette for racing. I never regretted buying this porsche.
It's 2019, and the prices on these Porsches keep on going through the roof!
I sold my 912e to an automobile museum in 2004, it had 50,000 miles on it. it was fun to drive but almost every Toyota 4 banger could kick it's ass. Buy one if you find one, good investment!
$30k for a semi restored paint and engine but it has a salvage title. Is it worth it???
This is all very good but, I am more interested in how Eddie worked on this car. There's no link to this video which can lead me to see how the final car has worked out to be.
Looks of a 911 with the performance of a 356 as it was designed to be. I drove one with a weak clutch back in '90. I could have had it for four thousand, Instead I purchased a '77 911S that was a very good car for around twelve thousand. Yes, it had the mag engine but never gave me one issue. Lost it in my divorce.

You would buy one rip the pathetically underpowered engine out and fit a 911 turbo lump and suspension plus brakes

912E a sheep in wolfs clothing. Ive owned 3, that all smell like burnt oil inside. Lack luster performance. That 'gee wiz' Porsche looks has worn out, the old guys that like them are in their 60-70s.. Classic car bubble is about to burst.
cmscms123456 Hopefully it does. I for one would rather buy an older 911 and have a proper driver’s car rather than the mush crap on the showroom floors. Let the bubble burst so another generation can enjoy these things rather than just the super rich having a Sunday driver
If you had 3 912Es that smelled like oil it was because you had an oil leak, the heater is air blown over the hot motor since it is not water cooled. Sounds like you did not maintain them right, that is not the fault of the cars design, it is the lack of maintenance. if you bought 3 you must have liked something about them. Old guys huh, I guess I was old at 27 then because I liked the cars look, just needed a whale tail, I did not want a hot rod, if I did it would not be an expensive to maintain 911. Buy a new car and watch it depreciate, your comment about the classic car bubble bursting will never happen, too many people value cars that are not being made anymore and take you into the past. All cars anymore feel the same.
Your post is two years old and the bubble hasn't burst yet.
Mine smells like leather, but then I maintain it so the tubes that shield the valve push rods don't leak, the intake for the heater is in the engine compartment so I can understand that happening, not a problem ever for me but could be modified with a hose from the intake to the cabin.
He sold his 912 recently for $75,000. A few years from now it will be worth $100,000+
I don't like the 912E. It's the engine.
These cars. All 911 and 912s are fucking overhyped, overpriced, and overrated.
