    Something to add for college/grad students, as machine learning and data analytics are increasingly emphasized in study/research, a strong Nvidia GPU would be a big plus for a laptop; it can run CUDA-supported linear algebra libraries and ML frameworks like Pytorch and Tensorflow.

    So I found 2 laptops with the exact same specs, the Dell Vostro 3401 and 3501; the only difference being the screen size. My priority is upgradability and performance over portability. To help me decide, I read a few articles, which said that upgrading a 14-inch laptop vs 15-inch would cause more heating due to the compact design. Further, I read that an FHD screen looks better on a 15-inch rather than a 14-inch, in terms of text and image sharpness. Do you agree? What would you pick in this case? Please help.

    • @w2best
      @w2best  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In terms of upgradability dell usually has more upgradeable parts in the 15" but the last generation of inspiron 14 has extra SSD slots which is pretty amaizing. When it comes to screen I think 14" is much better because of the reason you say. Full HD is better in 14 than 15 because the bigger the screen the bigger the pixels and the more pixelation you might see. But I have a full HD 15" and you really get used to it. Now I'm trying the Quad HD 14" Matebook 14 and that's when you realize what you've been missing out on! :)

      @@w2best thank you very much for your response. Yes, I thought the same too. But I find that text appears a lot larger on the 14" on browsers and stuff. On the 15" that I was using earlier, I could zoom in and out to resize text to my suitability, but I find that I'm unable to zoom out on the 14". Have you experienced this? Also, I find that the extra sharp display with PWM could hurt my eyes since I use it for long hours.
      Apologies for the trouble.

    • @steaksauz
      @steaksauz 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you have any thoughts on the heating of the device? I think there is a notion that the larger the size, the cooler it would be, just because of the space.

    • @w2best
      @w2best  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@steaksauz Oh I think this is due to windows scaling? This you could easily change! My laptop came with 150 and I now run it at 125% which is much better imo! Try it out!

      @@rafailjosef7693 Hi, because the aforementioned ASUS model has a numpad implemented in the form of a screen in place of the touchpad, which is unacceptable to me, and most of the software that is tied to working with the numpad will probably be interpreted incorrectly by such a touchpad. And for me it is important correct position of a touchpad, on the right, the buttons are full-fledged, physical. And another important nuance: a numpad should not be truncated, consisting of three columns (789). Previously, these were constantly used by the same ASUS and Acer. I just can't accept the 14 inch laptop (my work t490) and can't wait to go back to my old 15,6 inch 1366x768p laptop at the end of every work day. The ONLY reason I can convince myself to change this lapop is because of this old, low nits, low res screen.
    First, there is no number pad on the 14'' and even though I use the num pad less than 5 times a day, it pisses me off when I don't have it. Also, for the 14'', you will have to increase the scalling anyway, so you end up with a smaller screen for similar resolution. Too bad the 15'' laptop is getting snubbed by manufacturers producing popular AMD laptops :(

    I think 720p is fine if you just want to do some office work and browsing. A 14-inch laptop would suit you better though if you do go 720p. At least the pixels won't be as noticeable as a 15.6 with the same resolution, though barely. I use a 15.6-inch laptop with 720p resolution, and it fits me just fine for the work that I do on my laptop. I renegade gaming and content creation on my main PC and just use the laptop when I need to do some mobile typing work (and the occasional media streaming on hotels and stuff, though it's a less-than-ideal experience).

    Hi everyone! Any recommendations to me?
    I'm a final year university student, need a new laptop for one more year of studying then I will enter the workforce and I want to continue using the same laptop then. I do tend to have about 3-4 windows open. My lenovo ideapad 15"6 is quite heavy and so I want a 14-inch laptop.
    Sometimes I do use softwares such as QGIS or IBM SPSS which is data analysis, but that is rare.
    Also dont want to always carry the heavy charger, so USB-C charging would be great.
    I do not game at all or edit any videos or pictures. I want my laptop to one that has a smooth experience.

      @John Michaels yes I agree.
      But Envy 15 is too costly in India. More than 1lakh INR.
      Whereas Legion 5 with Ryzen 5 can be bought for 70k INR, Omen is slightly costlier but less than Envy 15.

Also there are so many brands in Amazon I didn't know which one to trust and I went with a popular brand and a basic hub to be safe, so this is an interesting research right there!! :)
