Been trying to decide between the 14 and 16, this sealed it for me! I’ve found the old 15” MacBooks a bit unwieldy so the 14” seems like a sweet spot, it looks as portable as a 13” but without the limited screen size
Came from a xps15, got the 14 on a great sale, super small yes, but ended up spending alot more to get the 16. Size is roughly the same as my old 15, but screen is easier to use. Getting older, and video edit, so the extra 2" makes a big difference in fcp.
the 14 inch appeals to me the most as well. It is definitely more portable and should be enough to learn web development as well, not to mention that you can always connect it to a monitor in case you need to.
In real life how much difference does 14in make to a 15in screen ? Coz currently using a 15in screen windows laptop. Don’t have budget to get the 16in MacBook
Being my primary device I’m going with the 16”. More screen real estate, better battery life, better thermals (less fan noise), larger trackpad and better speakers. The 14” is a great machine for sure but coming from the 13” touchbar pro, I don’t feel the size difference would change my experience much and I always wished I went to the 15-16” size

I actually like the 16" more, it's like a portable computer, I mean a laptop is technically a portable computer, but like the 16" has that bigger screen which feels more like a desktop kinda vibe.
Well, but even the 16" isn't big enough to give a desktop experience, so anyway, you'll need an external monitor. In that case, the 16" will be worse in everything.
I’m in the same boat as you. I wonder what I’d regret more: not having something lighter and less expensive, or not having the larger display. If you don’t have a separate monitor to work with, I can see the 16 inch making sense.
14 inch Laptops are also my go to, they are much more convenient to fit in all sorts of backpacks for on the run. They also don't compromise on performance much which this MacBook Pro lineup proves, it is perfectly capable. 14inch screen estate has been a sweetspot for production for me and if I did need the more screen estate for being a power user I would hook upto a monitor but have the advantage of having more portability.
For me the 16" Screen is just too big of an advantage over the 14" I love how glorious it is to just doing everything on it and I'm very impressed with it overall.
Thanks you!!! I searched a lot for an answer to this question, and you answered it within first few seconds!!! Rich content, thanks you again. First channel to enable all notification for.
I’m leaning towards getting the 16” since I wont be getting a desktop computer anytime soon, and I definitely want a bigger screen especially for editing my videos.
When I think about 14" vs 16" for my next Mac, I remember how much I enjoyed my old 17" MacBook Pro. It died a few years ago and I miss it. I miss that display real estate. It weighed about 6 lbs. I think I'll be OK with a 4.8 lbs 16" MacBook Pro. The 16" MacBook Pro doesn't seem all that big to me when I compare it to some of the clunkers from the past.
Finally I opted for the 16" one since in very demanding large processes there is a difference in fan noise compared to the 14" one, I hate the fan noise
I agree with choosing 14" over 16" and the reason for me is portability and that is exactly what I did. After two months of watching reviews like your channel, it helps me a lot to decide to get the 14". Thumbs up!
Thanks for the comparison and analysis, Ella! Was originally thinking of getting the 16 for the extra real estate, but have a feeling that I'll get more benefits with respect to portability and comfort with the 14 inch.
Even through the two are essentially the same in performance, I always go for the bigger size. I just like the screen real estate on all my devices to be larger. Especially since I'm practically blind😅. Great video, Ella!💛
I can understand how nice the 14 inch would be since the 16 inch is definitely a lot more difficult to bring around with me, but that extra battery life and screen real estate is too good for me to deny!
It's not really that large. It's a 16 inch laptop that fits into the same size sleeve that a Razerblade 15 fits into. Laptops are smaller because the screen goes much closer to the bezel than other popular laptops. they fit into a slimmer profile than some windows pc 16 inch laptop (if one exists)
@@sotonin It's not really about how large it is, the 16 inch macbook pro is 1.2 lbs heavier than the 14 inch macbook, which makes a very big difference when bringing it around with you.

Very insightful comparison! Definitely leaning towards the 14 considering that mine would be docked 90 percent of the time and like that the performance is comparable in my used case to the 16
I really like how you review the macbook and it gives the people the idea on what they will have to buy or not. Btw the 14 is more compact for me, I also learned a lot when it comes to gadgets. Thank you Ella ! 💕 Love from Philippines 🇵🇭
Thank you Ella for the great review! I personally went for the base model 16” M1 Pro MBP because with some education discounts it came out to be a pretty good deal compared to the high end 14” M1 Pro MBP… Also, I was worried about how the binned M1 Pro in the base model 14” M1 Pro MBP was ~20% slower in Geekbench multicore scores (though Geekbench only tells part of the story). I definitely agree with your points on portability though! My 16” is a chonky boi, especially coming from a 13” MBP 😢 But for chonk, it makes up in battery, screen size, and thermals :) Tldr; it comes down to whether portability is a big factor for you, and I think you made the right choice for your case!
same here. also went for the 16" - in my backback i dont feel the difference to my 2018 13" - so i am happy with it. more screen. more cooling. more fun.
I’m still concerned about the thermals though, I absolutely hated when the fans kicked in on my old MacBook Pro and I will have this hooked up to a 4K 144hz monitor that supports Thunderbolt 4 so I don’t know how well the 14” will keep up in clamshell mode pushing an external monitor like that.
Strongly agree with you on everything; though, never knew the reason for an 16" Mac laptop, it didn't have a numeric pad nor were too powerful enough (until now) to run power hungry/heavy programs or games.
Your logic seems unsound. Not sure what the connection is between a numeric pad and having a larger screen which is a actual benefit. Whether the macbook is powerful enough to run demanding programs is a function of its CPU/GPU annd ram configuration not with the screen size. If you’re looking at playing games then mac were never built for this purpose.
@@saulgood2366 You do know the definition of "pro" right? Though a numeric pad might be a insignificant thing to some people, but it's definitely a huge thing for professions such as an architecture, accountant, engineer, etc; but if you think that pro is exclusively made for content creators or devs, then there's still a problem due to overheating issues (based on your CPU/GPU statement) and the lack of ports (until now)... they would've been better off with an 14" if it was basically the same as an 16" (or an iMac if they really need the power)... But I would like to know your opinion about what a sound logic would be for an 16" MacBook pro.
I feel like since the performance is so good on the 14inch I would go for that one too over the 16inch. I'm starting to really value portability for my devices. Good luck to everyone who entering the giveaway!
I always thought bigger was better. I got the 14-inch M2 Pro with the idea I'll probably exchange it for the 16. However, I fell in love with the 14-inch. I don't edit videos or code so it's absolutely perfect for me.
I used a 13 inch macbook and was really in love with it ☺️ the screen size really was enough for the basics. If I had to choose, I would choose 14 inches, because 16 is a too large laptop and a smaller one will be more comfortable
was planning to get the 16" without question, but now I am leaning toward the 14". Before I had the 13 inch and always thought the bigger monitor would benefit me alot, but I can always have the 2nd 4k monitor instead and consider this a portable, much more accessible laptop instead. thanks for the review :)
I've been struggling on whether to buy the 14" or 16" so this video was very much appreciated. As a fellow cs person I loved the review for coding, as I thought the bigger screen would be better
Thanks for your comparison. I was trying to decide between the older intel 16 vs the new 14 M1 MBP (tempted by the new 16 as well). This video pointed out all the key points I wanted to know.
Those are very good points. I ordered the 14" and was debating my decision. But having owned the Intel 16", I agree with everything you mentioned. There are definitely diminishing returns and downsides to the 16", at least for my use.
With the 16 inch you could literally work all day with just the computer. The battery life is incredible and the larger screen is very comfortable on your eyes. The 14 inch battery would run out and your eyes would get very fatigued on that smaller screen. Sure, if you have a desk setup with an external monitor then they are both the same. But then just get a desktop computer. If you want the best laptop to use as a laptop, nothing beats the 16 inch.
Two inches more?? And only three hours more battery life. Great battery life on both models. I came from a big ass laptop so I'm worried about portability. I didn't take my 17inch laptop anywhere it is too big a beast. It all depends on the persons needs of course.
@@Parallelthinkers Not sure what 17 inch computer you had but the Macbook Pro 16 is very portable and sleek. I take it with me everywhere and have no issues at all. It fits in any backpack. I have used it on a plane, in my car, on the couch - everywhere. It doesn't get any better than the 16.
The fact that she’s using a base model and not just showing off, instantly makes this channel better than iJustine’s in my opinion. Much more practical advice here.
For my workflow, the 14” M1 Pro provides all the power I need and then some. Additionally, I really enjoy the smaller form factor and how much more portable is compared to the 16” model. Cheers!
2 things for me....: For one, I want the 4 external display offered by M1 Max out of the box. The 16" has proven to be a better enclosure for cooling the Max chip without the fan noise kicking in. Secondly, I want the 64GB ram in addition to the bigger screen real estate on the 16" given that I want to use a one pc setup for my livestreaming/online teaching. These made the decision easy for me but yes, at the cost of an arm and a leg lol
i always thought the size really matters when it comes to portable stuff, the physical specs of the two MacBooks is just too significant not to notice and for a normal student like me who always have to carry my mac around '14 is just more than enough, and not to mention it is easier to handle when i'm lazing around in my house or just laying down lol and also thank you for your great videos!! they are really so helpful
I very much appreciate this - I looked at both 14" and 16" models, and while the 16" screen is impressive, the footprint is unworkable for small tables and airline trays, and the weight is a real turn-off. Now if I could only decide whether or not I need to step up to the Max!
After a while of using the 16 inch form factor it becomes a standard for Video Editors and graphic designers who lean more towards performance and screen real estate. The 14 inch form factor has that portability and everyday use feel. Carry it around easily and get most basic tasks done. All in All Apple has killed it with the new chips.
Buy an external monitor and don’t use the retina xdr? A decent monitor for photo editing does cost at least 500/600$ and it still is worst than makbook pro monitor. You should spent more than 1000 to have something similar.

Which one did you get?
Thanks for your comparison. I was trying to decide between the older intel 16 vs the new 14 M1 MBP (tempted by the new 16 as well). This video pointed out all the key points I wanted to know.
Which one did you get?
Those are very good points. I ordered the 14" and was debating my decision. But having owned the Intel 16", I agree with everything you mentioned. There are definitely diminishing returns and downsides to the 16", at least for my use.
This was super helpful!! I totally agree i feel like 16” for an everyday laptop is just a little too big.
Lol sounds more like a personal issue. Most people are fine with a smaller screen without issues. All depends how far away you are from the screen
14” seems like an easier device to transport around as needed and with that light weight factored in, 14” would definitely be the choice for me.
True
Great review Ella!!! I’d prefer the 14” due to its portability. And thank you so much for this generous giveaway! Good luck to everyone! 🥳
Cheers!
The 16-inch is just as portable with longer battery life, which is important if you are out and about.
2 things for me....:
For one, I want the 4 external display offered by M1 Max out of the box.
It really helps me to choose which one is better to use. Thank you Ella for making this video and I wish you all the best.
I very much appreciate this - I looked at both 14" and 16" models, and while the 16" screen is impressive, the footprint is unworkable for small tables and airline trays, and the weight is a real turn-off. Now if I could only decide whether or not I need to step up to the Max!
The 14 thermals aren’t good enough to get the benefits of the max. It will throttle.
portability is rules number one for me, so i’d go with the 14”
After a while of using the 16 inch form factor it becomes a standard for Video Editors and graphic designers who lean more towards performance and screen real estate. The 14 inch form factor has that portability and everyday use feel. Carry it around easily and get most basic tasks done.
All in All Apple has killed it with the new chips.
Your videos keep getting better and better! Love all your explanations.
Buy an external monitor and don’t use the retina xdr? A decent monitor for photo editing does cost at least 500/600$ and it still is worst than makbook pro monitor. You should spent more than 1000 to have something similar.
Keep going ella i'm proud of you!
Thank you, this was a quite nice & useful review.
Really useful, thank you! I've been back and forth a lot, but finally settling on the 14".

I’m thinking of getting a new MacBook so thank you so much for a detailed review!
Great video with practical considerations missing from every other comparison video I've watched. Thank you
So Thankful for this video in which helped me so much deciding which one should I get
Thank you for this review! It is exactly what I needed to see . . . I'm right in the middle of deciding this very issue: which MacBook at what size. This has made all the difference in that process for me, it put me over the edge into deciding on the 14" Macbook Pro. This is crucial as I am about to jack up my home office to accommodate an jump in my non-profit position work and hopefully transition to full time soon - the new setup will make a huge difference and this laptop is the nexus of it all. Huge props for the clarity and detail that went into this, it was so helpful!
Ahh this vid just made me feel more assured of my decision to pre-order the 14-inch base model xx love your vids! Been saving them in a private “Macbook” playlist so I could easily be guided when my new Macbook Pro arrives xx love from the Philippines!
I prefer larger screens and I could care less about weight. I don’t really think it is as heavy as some make it out to be.
Great review. You answered a lot of unanswered questions that I had about this particular laptop. Useful information.
Went for the 16 just for the bigger screen, I don’t care about portability and I don’t use a monitor so a big screen is everything.
i have something for you...
Thanks for this helpful video ! I love the information you give and the way you tell it is always interesting 😊
Really helpful, this is what i was looking for!
thanks for giving me more reasons to buy the 14" instead. you've mentioned striking points i should've considered before. this is a very helpful content!
Definitely great points. Love your content!
How on point Ellas reviews are on point and relevant for me as a college student🔥🐆
Great review! Don't need it now but will be coming back to this video.
