Great video! I have an additional piece of advice to anyone watching. At 7:26 I would reword this slightly to take out the word "but" and replace it with "while also". The word "but" has a tendency to make people disregard anything that came before the "but" (even when written) or make them feel like what came before it doesn't actually matter. It can sometimes come off as dismissive or even argumentative. So, you'd ultimately end up saying: "I understand the constraint around base and bonus. I want to be respectful of your budget, while also making sure my compensation is aligned with my value in the market."
I want to personally thank you, and it might sound a bit exaggerated, but ever since I followed your advice, my CV completely changed, I improved incredibly in my interviews, and I landed my first desired job. It’s a shame I didn’t have the patience to negotiate and ended up taking the first offer I received, but I’m still very happy. Honestly, your templates have helped me a lot to act and present myself more professionally. Thank you so much for everything! Now, with this new video, I hope to overcome my fear of negotiating.
Hey Jeff, great video as usual. I downloaded the spreadsheet and you should fix the formulas on sheet 2 (prepare your range) - (($D7-$C7)*$F$6)+$C7 , and if you want to be fancy change the average calculations to ignore 0 values.
Should have also included negotiation tips for people who are laid off, are offered low ball salary because they are not in position to negotiation and fear losing offer.
All of this is important but this is more about negotiating duirng interview what about those online processes that make it that you have to out a set number
Hi Jeff, thanks for all these year of invaluable information!! Asking for a friend: here in BC, Canada salary ranges are in the job posting. How would you tackle the negotiation knowing the ranges before hand?
Answering a question with a question on 4:35 sounds a bit cagey and defensive. Is there a way you can answer this question a bit more directly whilst still being able to integrate the question you mentioned as well?

Just to clarify: From your proposed formula it seems like you're recommending I lock row 6?
@@JeffSu Correct, unlock the column and row for the data, lock the row for the percentage.
Jeff, you are the 13th apostle. And your humor is 100%. 😀 Keep up the good work! 👍🏻
Hahaha will do 😁
I take the ask early approach because I do not want to interview and waste my time giving interviews where salary is below my desired salary.
That's smart!
"My friend over there thinks you're cute." Jeff never fails to make us laugh.😂
And hopefully I never will :)
Should have also included negotiation tips for people who are laid off, are offered low ball salary because they are not in position to negotiation and fear losing offer.
Perhaps another video!
@JeffSu please make it a reality!
