Jamaica is not only the land of reggae and fine sandy beaches. It’s also a mountainous island cloaked in dense tropical vegetation. Its road network is in disastrous condition. This is nowhere truer than in the blue mountain region where the peaks rise over 2,000m above sea level. Only the hardiest dare venture there. Or the poorest.
Those who have no choice and must go there to harvest the country’s treasure: Blue Mountain coffee, one of the most expensive coffees in the world at nearly €200 per kilo (twenty times more than a standard coffee). A treasure that deserves the name. The sodden tracks along the sides of the ravines that lead up to the plantations turn every journey into a ordeal. Rasta communities have also chosen to set up residence in the highest, most inaccessible peaks of these Blue Mountains.
A choice that can prove perilous during times of major ceremonies when hundreds of faithful gather from all over the island. Not all of them make it.

As a Jamaican who's been to the Blue Mountains I can say this documentary is spot on, all those people pushing these vehicles uphill came to our rescue when our car couldn't go the distance and they ask for nothing in return.
Oh THe Blue Mountains is nothing compared to Epping Farm. Thant on the other side. Luckily, we rented an SUV. If you look right or left you gone.

The whole time watching, I could only think of buying the old coffee farmer a new truck. Moved by his ingenuity, and stick-to-it-iveness, if the possibility dawns this year, I certainly will. God bless Jamaica, and the Jamaican people. A nation of people who will push on even in woods dark and deep, because they have miles to go before they sleep. I feel wealthy and blessed to have born in the 'land of wood and water'.

I've watched a great many of these "Deadliest Roads" episodes now, but I wasn't quite ready for this one... the amount of positivity in the Jamaican people, despite the crappy conditions, is nothing short of awe inspiring.

I love this documentary. I love that the young man loves the countryside. As a Jamaican living in the USA, it is not the easiest. Work is here, you will make money if your smart, but that peace of mind. Omg I miss it. Island life is just a different vibe. I am really happy to see our country featured. Jamaica 🇯🇲 my love 💓
my sister's father was going to go there and have a scotch bonnet farm, but he died last year.... tragic, he was not Jamaican...but Greek American...but knew many, was close with King Sporty...gone too soon, only 50
This is what I don't like about Jamaican parents and elders.. instead of encouraging entrepreneurship among their children they prefer to force them mentally to either turn police or soldier and go America. I'm so disappointed in the mentality most elders have and instilled in their younger generation.
I looked special for the acknowledgment of what that young man said…..I feel the same exact way. You will certainly make money but the peace of mind and stress is far different. I look forward to retiring bank home in the hills of Richmond St. Thomas. It is so peaceful lush and fruitful.

I felt it to the depths of my heart watching this documentary. Because I understand it. I mean it across the board, but I hope God blesses everyone who was at the center of these individual stories. But especially to that young man who strives so closely to his grandfather making the trek back and forth into the Blue Mountains. So proud of him forging ahead through the obstacles - relentlessly. People of his age in similar circumstances can so easily be persuaded by external forces. Hold steadfast to your integrity. I hope the God Lord blesses you, young man. I hope you PROSPER. One love.

I was very surprised when I saw Jamaica for the latest upload of the Deadliest Roads series. Though I'm not 🇯🇲 I'm proudly Caribbean so it's nice to see my home region featured and not needing to read the subtitles constantly to understand what is being said. But big up to the yute man and his grandpa. He could've fallen in with bad company but is into farming and excited to take over one day. DJ Flex just enjoying himself, doing his job. The tour guide going to the Maroon village, the Rastas doing their thing, it goes to show how tough people are when faced with challenges. That's why I love this series. Keep up the good work. I have been a big fan of these series for over a year and half now, so Im really proud to see my country of Jamaica being highlighted. I have watched many episodes were they spoke a native tongue and needed subtitles but now i know exactly what is being said in Patwa haha Appreciation to the team and keep up the excellent work.
We all should raise some funding for the coffee farmer they can do with a 4×4 pathfinder . wow amazing hard working people.

"People watch movies just to see an adventure, when they could be living an adventure" he's so right. Alot of ppl are fearful, and nowadays social media makes it look as if you need to be wealthy to have this "adventure"..all you need is a positive mindset and confidence

my friend went to jamiaca like that and died.
those roads are deadly, and to much confidence have killed many people on the roads all over the world..
nothing wrong with being curious and seeking adventure.
but to much confidence is a killer in many ways, specially when you are in new places trying new stuff..
those backroads are also used to transport more then just coffee, weed is not the only drug on that island
it is a transit place for many gangs and their drugs
@@Hansen710 I've been living in Jamaica for the longest while. Literal Years. I know areas are dangerous (luckily I havent even witnessed it) but I've heard and seen what can happen via the news or someone telling me.
Everywhere has violence, you gotta be wise and know when and where you can go. Either by speaking to multiple friends or finding multiple sources.
Either way it is ultimately to each person.
I've also stayed in Florida for years..and despite shedding a tear everytime I watch the news, I've never witnessed acts of violence in person.
But i do get what ur saying, I normally have a positive cautious attitude. So even at night, walking alone and I see a group of guys. I'm the type that say "Oh Goodnight!" While passing. Maybe that saved me couple a times..I'd never know
I was the drone and gimbal operator for a JAMPRO documentary up there. It was muddy so the vehicle was sliding but the main problem was how close the edge was, many times less than a foot. View was out of this world though, looking through the blue tinted air and valleys a little unreal.
He said he's "hustling " not oscillating. It means he's looking money or a living. Thanks for the documentary 🇯🇲

I came back from Jamaica yesterday. One of my first purchases was a bag of blue mountain coffee beans. I was married to a Jamaican of over 20 years. God rest his soul. I can DEFINITELY say that Jamaicans are some of the most inventive, hard working, resilient people on the face of this planet.
I love everyone featured here but the granddad and his grandson were my favourites! Oh my and the mobile sound system! You know what, I can’t choose!😅 Jamaicans are so animated and fascinating!

I spent my formative years in the shadow of the Blue Mountains. I have so many fond memories of these beautiful mountains and the salubrious climate. I have made seven trips to Blue Mountain peak over the years.

I have a Jamaican husband and we have four sons and a baby due in July...I pray it's our daughter 🙏🏽 however Jamaica will always hold a very special place in my heart....very humble people and a breathtaking island with the best food! ❤ So glad to see them included in this show! Driven on those roads a number of times for work, had a lifted Jimny I used to go up and down. The people up there seem to love those - Jimnys and Samurais since the roads are really narrow and horrible. It takes balls driving on those roads let alone being driven there. It's a beautiful scenery some of the most beautiful I've ever seen in my life. I've been to many Caribbean islands and Jamaica is by far the most scenic and beautiful.

I drive these roads all the time when I go camping or rivers! I love this!! Most of Jamaica doesn’t even know about the roads up there or the different ways to get there. I’m glad more people will now join us on these adventures🤭

Every time I watch these, there’s always somebody in it, I wish I could reach out to and help. Sending that elderly man some parts for his SUV, would make a world of difference for him and his grandson. A new radiator alone, would save them hours each day. It’s sad that they sell one of the most expensive coffee beans on the planet, and you’d never know it. There’s obviously a middleman, taking a large cut. SMH
alot of products from jamiaca is fair trade, like coffee and chokolate for example..
im not sure car parts will fix that problem, and we throw away whole cars in better condition then that in many countrys..
perhaps selling the product online could cut out the middle man without any big costs..
many shops and privates would love to get a products like that straight from their own farmer
no doubt it is posible to distribute coffee like this direct for some of the finest resturants on the planet for example..

I visited Blue Mountain Peak 1976, I also visited the caves, it was wonderful. After travelling to the UK as a child, I returned to Portland to see my family again, and it was awesome, I was blown away. Very beautiful.❤️🌹👍

Have you tried Blue Hole Mineral Spring in Brighton? Bob Marley had his "little Cabin in Negril" in Little Bay. I remember him as a young girl.
