Jamaica: On the surface, it’s a tropical island paradise in the Caribbean. But, in spite of all the tranquility, Jamaica has one of the highest murder rates in the world. The reason: Ghettos! And the worst of all of them: Mountain View. Anyone who sets foot here risks their life. Deadly gun battles and gang wars are just part of the daily routine. The many small communities here are in a state of constant war.
The most infamous of all the gangs: South Clan! Drugs, alcohol, weapons. Everything always close at hand. The criminals make their money with contract killing, extortion, and kidnapping. Around five hundred people live in the South Clan community. Evil and his men say they protect the people here - from the bad guys. Their favorite weapons are the Glock nine millimeter, Beretta M-9 and the M-15 semiautomatic. All lightweight and deadly.
The Mountain View slum is a refuge for the poorest of the poor. Many seek solace in alcohol and marijuana. What rules here is primarily unemployment, miserable living conditions, hopelessness. Particularly for single mothers, there is usually only one way out: prostitution! Every day young women sell their bodies on the street.
A special police unit tries to end all this and to shut down the gangs. Four men notorious for their prowess. The special unit can't rely on any tips from ghetto residents. Because nobody talks here. There is only one language - which means don't talk, shoot!
Mountain View, Kingston is one of the most dangerous no-go zones in the world… Those who grow up here, barely stand a chance!

I am from Jamaica. Yes there are areas that are pretty bad and there are areas far worst than mountain view, (Spanish town, Telaviv, Riverton etc...) but that is just like a very small percentage of the country. We Jamaicans are typically welcoming, funny and like to meet foreigners. FYI, when the lord blessed me to get to the U.S i was able to move my mother from Spanish town down to the country area where it is way more peaceful.

Breaks my heart. I lived and still have family that live off Moutain View below the primary gang areas. I felt safe growing up there. These younger generation in their own words have 'no remorse' and no respect for lives. The average Jamiacan is just working and living their lives in peace. Very sad that this small minority of gangs has ruined so many lives.

Many Jamaicans moved to the UK in the 50s and 60s.
They're lives revolved around working where many took low paid jobs working 14-15 hours a day 6 days a week, family and church as many were God fearing.

@musamusashi Yeah. I think when people say they distrust or dislike the police they gotta understand it isn't hate on the individual, but the gang that these police forces have become taint the individual into. If you ask me we need cops, but not for them to be armed to the teeth. Also, cops who rove highly dangerous areas need serious continous therapy to keep an eye and see where their heads are at. Also, they need to switch those patrols regularly enough that you don't end up with jumpy cops who have seen so much bloodshed that they have an itchy trigger finger. It's kind of like our boys in Vietnam. You sent these kids into a hellish stuation where they continously watched their friends die and then do it again if they survive. That's how you get situations like the Mai-Lai Massacre or our troops dehumanizing innocent citizens in the mid-east.

A rough looking local approached me and asked me where I was from but I thought that he was just being friendly. I guess ignorance is bliss! Right across the hill adjacent to this neighborhood is the University of West Indies, where Usain Bolt and Jamaica's world champion women sprinters practiced. Kingston is a rough city, with drugs and gangs, and with very few people on the streets. This doesn't just happen I'm the "ghetto". You have very nice neighborhoods that have the same activity. The only difference is, it's not plastered on the news or internet. Meth labs aren't the the ghetto. Klan members/gangsters don't meet in the ghetto, etc. Stop categorizing everything to be what the news, etc wants it to be. This stuff happens all over the world PERIOD! The person that first came up with the "stand your ground" thing. Wasn't from the ghetto nor was is actually pointed for the ghetto. It was originated for someone FROM a "nice & quite neighborhood, where nothing ever happens 🙄 ". Who broke in their neighbors home & did as they pleased. There's absolutely no such thing as a "nice & quite" neighborhood. There's ALWAYS someone who's gonna test that theory. Jamaica is NOT the only place in the world. Where ppl feel if You disrespect them it's a wrap! That's nationwide, don't disrespect certain ppl because everyone doesn't take that lightly, SIMPLE! There's a bigger gang with more weapons, artillery, more bodies under their belts, more victims, added to broken homes, added to drug infested neighborhoods, ETC. You know them guys that introduced crack cocaine, 🤔. They didn't live, visit, nor did they go anywhere near a "ghetto". Yet what they've done AND STILL DO isn't all over the news & internet. Some of y'all need to research & think about what y'all say BEFORE y'all say it. The ghetto WASN'T the "ghetto" in the beginning. Someone made it that way for 1 reason & 1 reason only. For ppl like You to call it the "ghetto" labeling a culture 🙄.

I went to Coco LA palm in Negril August 2020 for 8 days. Had guards in the front and back. Every time someone approached to sell you fruit they stood there. I felt super safe. Negril is really west though and nowhere near Kingston. I paid a guy to bring me into the mountains for 1 day. We grilled Bonito fish and onion and carrot. Scored some real grade A indoor ganja (my local escort/security did)from some guys outside a store called bong. I'll never forget the green hills and valleys in Jamaica. Such a beautiful island it gave Aruba a run for it's money.

Heartbreaking and troubling at the same time. About 25 plus years ago, my next door neighbor, a mother, a father and their 12 year old girl, were slaughtered by nearby gangs in a retaliation killing. They murdered everyone and spared the two boys who were around 5 and 7 at the time. The same murders then came over to my mothers house and shot it up with some high powered guns because it was said someone opened the window and may have witnessed the murders. I thank God Almighty for protecting my family that night and for speaking to the heart of my mother the day before to changed the weaker door she had to a stronger one which prevented them from entering the house. Had it not been for that strong durable door she changed they would have gotten in and murdered everyone in there. These ruthless barbarians doesn’t value anyone else’s lives but theirs.
