James seems to be having an absolute ball of a time getting to spectate and judge 😂 the rest of the gang were delightful as always. Watching yall bounce off one another is the best part of every video.
So pleased for Jamie, genuinely. The skills are there, sometimes the ideas aren't as exciting as the other two come up with, he plays to his strengths and sometimes that can come across as a bit too safe. That said, however, it all came together for him in this one, the idea was excellent and he clearly nailed it. Good stuff
I've always loved how Mike still acts surprised at tasks, like pass it ons, when everyone knows that Janice has a sweet spot for him and tells him early.
Absolutely! Each one of the guys brings something wonderful to the table, as it were, and maybe they just needed time and space to get Kush into the mix. Now it is one big happy, hilarious group of mates!
I’ve never seen James smile this much, usually he’s panicking and trying to save the dish. It’s so cute how tickled he is just observing lmao. These dishes were all creative too! Also the pineapple bit with James and Jamie and then Jamie and Barry fighting over Izzy cracked me up 😂
Mike could have used the Chinese popcorn maker for the puffed rice. Sure, it might have taken out the entire studio, but you should go out with a bang, right? 🙃
I still, and always will, think some of the recipes should go on the app, regardless of if it is too long or complicated to make. Jamie's dish is one of them.
I love it that he also got a more balanced judging this time, from the quite magnificent James. When Ben is judging he seems quite biased against Mike, in favour of Barry (after watching for many years this is the opinion I've formed)
James, Mike doesn't seem to faff or get into a Huttlestorm as much as he used to since becoming a Dad. It really has brought out his best. How lucky are we to have James back no matter how long it's for. I would love to see a Kush v James, and halfway through, they have to switch places and make something out of the other persons dish. Even the normals could have a go at that. I really couldn't pick a winner without trying each dish. It looked like a very hard choice.
Mike: "It's really important to us that there's a loser." James: 😯 Jamie: "If anything, the loser is more important than the winner." 🤣😆🤣😆 That explains the boys' dynamic and friendship so well.

I love watching this battle, with the memories of the earlier Ultimate battles. It's such a clear example of how the lads have come a long way. With little planning, they've pulled off three very clever dishes that capitalize on the unique properties of rice, while previously there would have been more gimmicky dishes, this is just raw cooking experience and skill on display. And in this case, three dishes that I think many of us would love to test out ourselves.
Love the format with a judgy chef as a commentator from the sidelines. For me it adds a really good layer of storytelling and sense of non-scripted conversation (there is more of a conversation about what's going on, instead of people just presenting their dishes a camera) to the video.
Not sure why he would randomly take his stuff without asking to begin with, but he did seem like he legitimately regretted that one. Think or ask before you act Baz! XD
I'm quite certain Barry did it op purpose. If he didn't, then he should have went and replaced the chicken stock, since he took it without asking, the git.
hi James, we love you, thank you for hanging out! Also, this is the first video in a while where I'd seriously want to try each of the dishes, they all looked delicious!
You know, I'm just as happy and impressed when we see all the normals make amazing food than older episodes where everything went wrong. You guys are amazing and I'll never get tired of it. I eat while you cook at every meal. Thanks for always (albeit unknowingly) making my mealtimes better.
These episodes have probably been my favorite. James and the 3 normals have a fantastic back and forth. They are laid back and just having the chaotic fun with good dishes. Even the pass it on was better than they normally are because nobody was trying to be fancy/"chef-y". I'd really love to try Barry's dish but Jamie's is hands down something I'd want to make myself.
18:48 Jamie turns to Barry and says "I think that should go on the pub menu." Does this mean we're really getting a Sorted pub at some point? Even just a pop-up?
Mike is pushing his baking skills to the limit - I love the ambition! Meanwhile Jamie is out to offend nations again and Bazz is stealing ingredients. 😂
This is so typical of all the guys! I LOVE it!! Barry made a “gourmet” ridiculous meal, Jamie made something that is shockingly delicious and combines multiple cultures and offends them all (with at least one snacking ingredient), and Mike made a dessert. James came back (yay!!!) because he missed the guys and got tired of working in a formal kitchen where all the food actually is gourmet and not some kind of crazy, imaginative, Wtf?!?! food.
I honestly want to try making the volcano rice at home, and there have been some other meals that think it would be fun to see. Maybe a video breaking down how to make the top 6 (two for each normal) unplanned dishes?
16:20: The fact that it's cooked pineapple is so important. I think too many people (and pizza places) try using raw pineapple as a topping, especially when it gets placed under cheese or in sauce and never actually cooks. The end result is a raw pineapple flavor that cuts too much against the savory and doubles down on the acid-y flavors in the tomato. When prepared in a way that it can cook and develop out its flavor, pineapple pairs really well with ham pizza (and really just ham :) ).
I've got a rice pudding cooking in my instant pot right now to have after my roast dinner, this video is going to do nothing to stop me feeling hungry and wish it was ready to eat.
The bit between Barry and Jamie when you're filming them talking over each other is the best thing you've ever filmed (besides Emma & Gaia and Poppy appearances, obvs.) No lie.
Other than rice (and sometimes potato) you can usually substitute many ingredients. For sugar, look at using allulose/monkfruit; allulose itself is only 70% as sweet as sugar, so it needs a filler and allulose/monkfruit generally has no issues for most people. Erythritol can give people stomach issues, and also has a weird cooling sensation. Xylitol is possible, but only if you do not have pets as it is poisonous to them. Stevia is okay, but has an aftertaste most people do not like. For bread, you can look at using alternative low carb flours. Almond flour and coconut flour are some of the most common, but I also use flax meal for flavor and texture (especially in pancakes and waffles). For rice and potatoes, if you reheat them from the fridge/freezer they will not spike your sugar as much, but it is still best to stay within a reasonable carb limit. Potatoes can be replaced with parsnip, turnip and cauliflower, but it never truly replaces it and it's fine to eat rice and potatoes within moderation. Many fruits are generally fine, especially berries which are low in carbs and have a low glycemic index. It is only recommended to only have half an apple (or pear), but I do fine with a whole one because I don't completely hate myself. Bananas are generally avoided due to how much starch they have, but if you're baking with them, it is generally fine in moderation. Look for keto or low carb on Amazon, and you can usually find replacements for most things like honey, syrup, chocolate and many candies. I generally avoid ones that use Maltitol as that causes the most issues for most people (sugar free gummy bear fiasco for example).
James just seems to bring out the best in these 3, from a flawless Pass it on to a magnificent unplanned rice battle. I know Ben and Kush also have been around them to educate them but while James was away, something happened cause when the normals panic, they adapt better now. Obviously we get to see them through a lens (metaphorically and literally) so we don't know what's going on in the background but they are on a streak of doing great. That all being said, it's 100% possible for regression as we've seen them all have flashes of brilliance in the past only for the next video to question where it all went.

Love the video guys. It’s good to see Jamie learnt nothing from the paella burrito, making Korean volcano with Spanish rice and Italian/Hawaiian pizza. I just really wanted Mike to puff the rice with the popcorn/rice popper from the antique kitchen gadget episode with Alex.
This is the best one of these I have seen, all three dishes looked amazing. The volcano was the worthy winner though, I am going to give that a go sometime soon. I love this channel. Keep it up.

I love how they have impressed James!!❤
I'm loving how much James has been on the show lately!
Also, "Barry. This isn't practical" 😂
Keep it up.
These videos they did when Ben and Kush were on vacation were pure chaotic entertainment gold ❤😂👍🏻 hahaha. Love it
Can you guys do another set of battles where you redo old failed battles.
I think the sous chef's apron needs to be renewed with a battle with different judges every year.
Remember how the last rice battle went for Jamie?
This battle and the last pass it on we're amazing can't wait to have more James/Kush/Ben videos too
Enjoying all the James content! Can't wait to see the dynamic between James and Kush once Kush gets back from paternity leave. They were so good in the chef battle during the recent Live that seeing them in regular videos would be a treat. As always, excellent content SortedTeam. Kudos to your whole team! Your passion and camaraderie always shines through 👍👍👍
