When I saw the Busa in the Cycle World "Birds of Pray" article I knew I had to have one. It outclassed the civilized Honda Blackbird in every way. I now have owned a 1999 Copper/Silver Hayabusa since 2001 when I brought it used. It is just as fantastic now as it was then. An amazing piece of engineering.
I've own a 06 zx10r, 04 R1 and now a 06 gsxr750 and im finally looking around to get a busa. I used to hate them but i got a chance to ride one yesterday and it's actualy a pretty dam practical machine. Great in town, awesome on the freeway and i live in SC so theres nothing but open long back roads around here.
The Hayabusa is the only bike that you ride to drag race and run under 10 sec 1/4 mile. Do the twisties for hours with the super sport bikes all in one day with out wearing out the rider. I know I do it all of the time. That makes the Hayabusa the best and most versatile motorcycle ever.
The so called bike Expert says; "Hayabusa name is supposed to be some kind of falcon that's supposed to be fast", No, Suzuki named it Hayabusa because up until 1999 the fastest bike you could buy was the Honda CBR1100xx Blackbird. Hayabusa actually translates to Peregrine falcon - which yes are fast - but their main prey are Blackbirds.
Actually I don't remember the XX being any faster than the ZX11. When the Hayabusa came out it completely blew both of those bikes out of the water. I've had a 92 ZX11, 04 BUSA & a 07 Busa & I'll tell what, 160 mph the XX & ZX11 are straining, not the Busa.
It's a well made, sought after engine that has been turbocharged and used in motorcycle drag racing. Also, kit car builders use the stock motor in cars. My 2003 Busa has 35,000 miles on it, and runs just as smooth as the day I bought it. Any motor can have problems, but it is just as reliable as any other motorcycle engine. There aren't any recalls or maintenance issues with it, even when run at top speeds.
The Hayabusa will always be the king of super sports for me because I'm a casual rider that will never experience what it can do at the top end. To me it is over kill anyways.
And i can put my 5cents in here as i bought 2006 busa 7months ago and i can tell you mate that all what they say in it is true. This bike loves going over 120+ mph, everything is fine except doing u turns on 3 like in car 😅 so she was my dream for 3 years and finally i got her. I jumped from 125cc i was previously - into 1300 hayabusa just after passing my full motorbike licence😁
Ive recently got a 2005 hayabusa and I love it. Does 90 miles a day and hasent skipped a beat. Good tank range and comfortable. Its not the fastest thing going anymore but it still goes like shit off a shovel compared to most things.
The ZX-14 is amazing, but the hayabusa is just as amazing, incredible. Both are hyperbikes. Its amazing how many haters come out when you say something is actually the best.
VALUE goes to the Bandit. I put $3k change in my pocket when I bought my 1250. I added $750 in a TFi box, exhaust, air filter, and 17 tooth front, and my 0-60's are sub 3 seconds, too! With an $8k bike, I have gone 166MPH, and that was plenty! Knee dragging speed in the twisties? maybe not, but CERTAINLY fast enough for my tastes. A better LOOKING ride than either 'Busa or ZX, it left me with change for gas, and a seat for the ladies to ride on!
I own a 2000 busa and i like the ZX-14 as well. Other busa owners who've tried or bought a 14 state it's a better overall bike stock and so far, light bolt on mods. Brocks Bolt on project Zx-14 just did 200mph at maxton. It's just piped, mapped, airfilter and ceramic bearings. Engine hasn't even been opened. Those who have looked into the engine state the 1352cc engine has MUCH room for improvement in it's heads.
I've had my 02 Blue/Black Busa since 2007. It's more than just a Badass Motorcycle. It's got plenty of aftermarket support & it's a great cruiser as long as U not in slow Stop & Go traffic for 2 long. It's a great Sport Touring bike as well. Long Live♡SUZI♡✌😎🌵
Wow. Nicky is one of my favorite riders. I hope he wins the championship this year. If he was my neighbor, I would try my best to get lessons from him. That's for sure.
Keep in mind that this video is several years old.. the busa on this video is the first year 1999 model and would do 194 off the showroom. In late 2000 fear on an import ban led to an accord between japanese and european manufacturers to govern the top speed to around 186.
come on everyone, we all know that it may not be the fastest anymore (but bloody close) but it's still the ultimate bike to have said i've ridden or owned one. This bike is one of the classics and will be remembered for years to come way past the rest.
I ride a Suzuki B-King. That means I get the great engine and reliablity, and I can sit UP, not killing my back and wrists on long rides. Also it looks like a Transformer, and I love that.
Have the 2006 LE Hayabusa in pearl white w/silver.Very sweet looking bike and nothing iv ever been on comes close.Perfect 10s in the comfort and power. But it does handle like a pig in the corners. All in all highly recomemend this bike but not for frist time riders.
You are absolutely right GorillaUnitSoldier. I would love to have the Y2K. That bike is simply awesome. I'd be laughing like Beavis and Butthead the hole time I was riding it. Lol.
that is a really good explanation! it's hard to explain to new riders that of all the skills you need to learn when riding (newbies or veterans) is...restraint!
On my 1999 full power Busa I can ram my 55litre Givi box with a weekly big shop at Tescos and hit 200mph all the way home in time for Corry!! I luuuuve it. ;-)
The faster and harder you get on the throttle, you can feel the G-Force trying to pull you off, so as long as you keep your hands on the grips you'll be ok. You also have the option in having either the rear seat or the hump on the rear. The hump will keep you from sliding off the back of the bike. You also want to keep your head down near the tank and below the windscreen to keep the wind blast from blowing you off the bike. With the double-bubble windscreen, I can sit upright until 140.
did 204 miles and still had throtle left....to be honoust...didn't have the guts to go on...when i stopped i was shaking from the adrenaline. Awesome!!!!
A HEAVY BIKE with a very powerfull engine like the busa is a good thing it keeps it planted on the road, lighter bikes like the feather weight R1 are more nimble but twitchy and bounce around a lot, weight is a good thing on 2 wheels with an engine pushing out 198 Hp!!
I love busa's. I will never own one... most I'll go up to is a liter bike eventually. MAD PROPS TO PEOPLE WHO RIDE THEM cuz they are fuckin scary I'd imagine. I ride a cbr250r right now I just got into sports bike so I wanted to start slow but MAN i respect busa riders that manage not to crash and die... these bikes are amazing as well. zx14r 12 looks like it has some decent competition brought to the table, but they are both great bikes!
Guys, I own a 09 busa, I love it. Just for the facts that everyone seems so willing to quote, the Kawasaki is actually a 1440 cc engine, 100cc larger than the hayabusa and it only won by 0.02 seconds! That says a lot for the busa, which if it wasn't the beast that it is, it would not be the bike that ALL bikes are measured against! Can we agree on that? The fact is I like a lot of different bikes but I always bought a busa, but I still respect others opinions, however, I can't wait for Suzuki to
Well if your talking drag track you cant beat the busa for available mods. They turn pretty well but not nearly as well as the 600 and 1K bikes. ZX14 is getting lots of love from some modders but its good Kawasaki came out with the 14. Now Suzuki will have to counter it with something. I hope they dont dissapoint mid 2007.
The busa is not like a top fuel dragster at all unless you've turned into a...top fuel dragster. The main strength of it is acceleration and speed but it can work very well in the twisties as far as having fun due to the amount of torque it makes down low. You hit the twisties in the mountains and never leave 2nd gear. It's the best all around bike available-speed, xcelaration, comfort, looks and handling. If all you want is handling, don't buy this bike. And you're right Suzuki rules!
David Newton! !!!!!! Are you crazy . I own a gen 1 ... smoked by a 12 !!!!! I don't think so . Have had many runs with zx12 and blackbirds . None of them come close busa is king . Look fantastic go like stink . Get so much attention when you park up . Even the none motorcyclists . Know what it is .the busa is a legend . Always feel like king of the road when you ride it ....... zx12 . Bring it on
You proved my point. You moved onto other bikes. This guy wanted to buy a big bike with the thinking that it will be his "only" bike ever. I said that that is untrue, and you proved my point. While some may keep their first bike (and I never meant that that is a bad idea), few people RIDE the same bike forever. Most will move on at some point, so there's no point buying a literbike or hypersport right from the get-go.
Ever ridden one? My first weekend at one of the country's most technical tracks (Grattan Raceway) I had my knee on the ground all over the place (without dumping the bike . . .). watch?v=aj7gyjqzlGU The reputation of this bike being an unwieldy beast is unfounded. I was amazed at how this thing swims through corners. And once you're on a straight, you're gone!
The 2007+ Busa'a are redesigned with a slightly larger motor, has about 190 HP. This means it is exceeding 200 mph, and with it's wind tunnel designed body, there is no shaking or vibration. The Busa looks the way it looks to make it aerodynamically capable of slicing through the air. The ZX-12 couldn't keep up with the Busa, so Kawi, brought out the ZX-14, which still couldn't outrun the old Busa. The redesigned Busa, walks away from the ZX-14,, even with the limiter.
Riding my 1999 after having a serious wreck in May 09, put it back together with zipties no serious mechanical problems with the frame and engine but the plastic and front forks were a mess. She still will pull like a freight train all the way to 130- haven't gone faster... yet
Well actually, even though im a huge busa fan, i've read in 'Several' articles that the new 07 14R is faster in drag and track races, and competes apparently, equaly in ride comfort. It has won every shootout so far. Sources: Cycle World, Sport Rider, Motorcycle USA.
Love my 2011 hayabusa! Been getting lot of shit from 1000 cc bikers tho. But I don't care, love my Hayabusa. Not thinking of getting another bike at all.
I searched, but I no longer have the original show I captured, then saved the Busa segment. I will look for that segment for you. I can't believe this video is posted on hundreds of different boards!
I know this is an old video but here goes anyway. There comes a line where all parties involved are so fast that a discussion about which is faster is a waist of time and energy. Most modern sport bikes with liter plus engines have long past that line, ESPECIALLY the Hayabusa and the ZX14!!
I own a K8 Ltd Gen2 and I really don't believe there is much difference in top speed in any of the top five bikes out there. It really comes down to the physique of the rider and how they fit on the bike as well as how they wrangle every last bit of horse power from the engine. I personally came up beside a 2009 model ZX14 a week or two ago on the road and we both looked at each other and gave a friendly nod. There was no stupidity about finding out which of our bikes was that tiny bit faster.
Although the s1000rr beat the new Busa, It is also way lighter. But respect to all bikes and anyone who rides. The only department that I think the Busa lacks in is cornering.
I got one, on my second.....and they are bloody fast! You ride with ya butt off the seat to keep more rubber on the road, especially when youre giving it some!
Looks like the line is clearly drawn between brand loyalty, not much else. I went with the Kawalski ZX/ZZR. I considered the Kuzuki I don't race, I don't challenge the cops (they have guns and tasers... and radios to other cops with tasers and mace and dogs). I like the acceleration and the look of the 14. King or not, its an excellent bike as is the Kuzuki.
You must've been living under a rock cause the busa has been lost the throne ... between the zx10r , zx12r , zx14r , gsxr1000 and the bmw 1000 the busa is just what it started out as ,a SPORT TOURER !! And your right , it's not just speed and all the bikes I just mentioned crush the busa in all categories too . I still like the busa , thats why I still have my 04 busa along with my 07zx10r , my 05zx12r znd my 05gsxr1000 . But I'm giving credit to what's due and this isn't 1999 anymore .....
well the gentleman's agreement between all the big names in the bike world (Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, etc.) means that all bikes made after 2000 will be limited to 186mph.....so basically the hayabusa will be the fastest around for a while!
I once thought i was fast on a Blackbird to the day i bought a Hayabusa second generation. It was really fast. The day i mounted a turbo on that Hayabusa it became insanely fast and now it have 350 hp and it will probably be the fastest bike i ever will drive. It just passes everything without any hesitation on the highest gear.
the first gen. was good for 340 km/h stock+it's more tuner friendly then most other bikes, sure the busa it's not fancy like the hp 4....u have tons of vids of tuned busas on youtube, even with 500+ hp, for a few thousand bucks you still can have a reliable turbo busa from 250 hp and up, the hayabusa has one of the most durable engines ever in the bike world!
@Tom314210 Actually, they handle very well, especially for a bike of that size. I lowered mine one inch, front and rear, and that made the handling even better.
thats great glad you had fun.if you ride in san jose let me know and ill teach you something about bikes at Alice's,1000+ bikes on anygiven weekend, and iv only seen a 14 once there, busa's tons.tells you something.
Just bought my dream bike... a 06 Hayabusa... Feels like warp speed an handles like a dream... I don't need anything faster... Love my BUSA!!!
I've own a 06 zx10r, 04 R1 and now a 06 gsxr750 and im finally looking around to get a busa. I own a 2018 & I love it. Only changed mufflers for summit racing megaphones!! Sounds great & powerful for miles around sounds!!🚀
I own the 2003 Orange 40th Anniverary Busa. Nothing will ever supass the Busa until the newly designed '07 Busa appears.
16 years old😊😉
Great documentary. I love the discovery channel. Taught me a lot about the Busa.
The so called bike Expert says; "Hayabusa name is supposed to be some kind of falcon that's supposed to be fast", No, Suzuki named it Hayabusa because up until 1999 the fastest bike you could buy was the Honda CBR1100xx Blackbird. sbs9026 thanks for sharing
in fact the peregrine Falcon is the fastest bird , fastest animal on the planet.
Cheers bud.

I love Hayabusa !!
It's very easy to treat even a beginner!
i have a gsxr 750 and nothing but good things to say about suzuki. in the future i will get a hayabusa
Keep in mind that this video is several years old.. the busa on this video is the first year 1999 model and would do 194 off the showroom. In late 2000 fear on an import ban led to an accord between japanese and european manufacturers to govern the top speed to around 186.

I have owned 5 of them. Then I bought a ZZR1400 (ZX14) which blows the 'Busa away in every department.
Agreed, The Busa is the fastest bike in the world from the factory. I have driven them, they are extreme...
I ride a Suzuki B-King. That means I get the great engine and reliablity, and I can sit UP, not killing my back and wrists on long rides. Also it looks like a Transformer, and I love that.
Driving the pre 2001 models is an experience no other bike can give you!!! Undisputed nr. 1 babe!!!
I love Busa’s & Vespa’s so there! :)
Have the 2006 LE Hayabusa in pearl white w/silver.Very sweet looking bike and nothing iv ever been on comes close.Perfect 10s in the comfort and power. But it does handle like a pig in the corners. All in all highly recomemend this bike but not for frist time riders.
ABSOLUTELY.......and I can't wait to get one!!!!!! (joy is NEVER a waste of money!)
Easy to afford, extremely fast and a lot of power for unseasoned riders!
You are absolutely right GorillaUnitSoldier. I would love to have the Y2K. That bike is simply awesome. I'd be laughing like Beavis and Butthead the hole time I was riding it. Lol.
You need to come out to Cali and see it on the twisty mountain roads.
that is a really good explanation! it's hard to explain to new riders that of all the skills you need to learn when riding (newbies or veterans) is...restraint!
Hayabusa "The king of bikes"
..and yet the ZX14 is better in every department.
Awesome!!!!
Fair play! Here in Finland you may have a new Hayabusa for 18000 euros which in these days equals about $24000.
The Busa was deemed the fastest Production bike.
I don't recall ever seeing a Tomahawk in a dealership showroom.
Hayabusa Is what the Oklahoma highway patrol have & the most amazing Motorcycles there are the Ones Someone working for minimum wage can afford.
There can only be one! Love the bike from the moment i've bought it.
I like my busa, it is one of the best big bikes
amazing vid i love that bike it is superb love it
Guys, I own a 09 busa, I love it. Until you're out racing on the track and see a Hayabusa fly past you. Then you'll say:
"Damn, I wish I didn't spend $5000 more for a shittier bike".
Well if your talking drag track you cant beat the busa for available mods. They turn pretty well but not nearly as well as the 600 and 1K bikes. Fantastic bike, luckely i've got 1.
2006 year...
Like who from 2014 year :D
Street Rider still no likes ='(

love da hell out of it i'm looking for a 2000 - 2005 hayabusa keep me in mine.

Nice posting on the 2nd fastest production motorcycle. Not quite the Y2K Superbike, but close. BTW, I like Suzuki. I have a SV1000.
Nice vid. Can you post the rest of the show?
Riding my 1999 after having a serious wreck in May 09, put it back together with zipties no serious mechanical problems with the frame and engine but the plastic and front forks were a mess. She still will pull like a freight train all the way to 130- haven't gone faster... yet

AMAZING BIKE THE BEST EVER
I owned a Busa for 2 years and traded it in last month for a ZX14r. The Kwaka is the better bike.
Until I get passed by a ZR14, I'll stand by my Basa as the Fastest.
I own a K8 Ltd Gen2 and I really don't believe there is much difference in top speed in any of the top five bikes out there. It really comes down to the physique of the rider and how they fit on the bike as well as how they wrangle every last bit of horse power from the engine.

300km per hour? SUPERB! Rainbow. Simply superb. BRAVO!
I got one, on my second.....and they are bloody fast! You ride with ya butt off the seat to keep more rubber on the road, especially when youre giving it some!
2.4 seconds?!?!?! I would be screaming if i were on it and having the bike accelerate that fast!!!
Busa is a trend setter bike.
the japanese hit it right on the mark with this bike. it will be the bike to follow for many years!
2022: Still at the top of the tree IMO.
hayabusa rullz !!!! love this byke
Hayabusa is still KING!! KAWASAKI is only a CONTENDER, vying for the Belt! There's much more to a Motorcycle than just SPEED!
i have a 2008 busa and i love that bike.
+SUPER BIKE “BERTITO” HAYABUSA 2004 sold and now I have 2009 Black and gold. BEST BIKE EVER
you dont have nothing bitch
well the gentleman's agreement between all the big names in the bike world (Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, etc.) means that all bikes made after 2000 will be limited to 186mph.....so basically the hayabusa will be the fastest around for a while!
I sure am a wonder :)
Zx14 is the number one in all areas looks, speed, 0-60, ninja chops a hayabusa. But i like the extra 5 gallons of fuel in the back.
What a waste of money adding a turbo on. NOBODY needs more power than the stock bike, not even a professional rider.
the first gen. was good for 340 km/h stock+it's more tuner friendly then most other bikes, sure the busa it's not fancy like the hp 4....u have tons of vids of tuned busas on youtube, even with 500+ hp, for a few thousand bucks you still can have a reliable turbo busa from 250 hp and up, the hayabusa has one of the most durable engines ever in the bike world!
no, i see the amazment of how fast they can go and their limits, but they just look big and really bulky
the bmx 1000rr -- busa killer. :D
having this bike is only remain a dream to me hahaha..sad to say..but even that honda50 i really cant afford...
yup. perfect balance of everything!
I ride the canyons in So cal and my hayabusa ok on the tight stuff but when the road has a little space nothing beats me to the next corner.
True , just like the zx10r in 2004 was doing 115 MPH in first gear ....
Really cool stuff...
That is all true but as a highway bike there is nothing better than the Busa or the ZX-14R.
Holy fucking shit the hayabusa is my #1 bike of all time and has always been!
@Tom314210
Actually, they handle very well, especially for a bike of that size. I lowered mine one inch, front and rear, and that made the handling even better.
Wow feeltehba55, did we forget our medication before posting? Woosaah, woooosaaaah.
@Rainb0wSeven
How's the "wrist turning" high speed... freeway flying experience coming along? ..nuff said.
