I am 73 years old and have been gardening since I got the added chore of weeding when I was 5 years old. That is the slickest way I have ever seen for shucking sweet corn. Outstanding young man!!!

Well Jared there will be a lot of folks who will appreciate this video, especially the women. You sure planted a big garden this year.Everyone is complaining about getting stung by bee’s this year. Their nest is in the ground. They are having trouble harvesting their crop. Even their dogs are getting stung .Have you seen any .? We haven’t seen the kids for a while, how are they doing .? God bless and take care.

I remember having to shuck that stuff. The weather would be hot and humid; the silk from the corn stuck to your skin; my mother could cut the corn off that cob like nobody I've seen. Boy that corn sure tastes good in the winter. Yum!

My granny was from Floyd County Kentucky. I helped her put up a load of corn and saurkraut. She had a board with an angled blade that had belonged to her mommy. Granny was 86, when she passed in 2000, lordy mercy how I miss that woman

I can't even count the hundreds of hours spent shucking corn and fighting with the silk...this is a definite "try" for the next batch of corn!

Mom and I were just talking about how she can't shuck corn anymore because she's lost the strength in her hands due to a medical condition. I imagine she most certainly could do part of this method, if one of us did the chopping off of the end, then she could do the shaking bit over a pan. Thank you so much for sharing this way it will raise her spirits knowing she's still able to do part of the process. Be well and God bless y'all! 🙏🏻😊🌻

The shucking method is great. For the ladies, may I recommend a V blade mandolin? I have one that I bought probably 10 yrs ago. I use it to slice all kinds of veggies. It's especiaaly great at slicing cucumbers for pickles, squash and zucchini for pickles/processing. But the thing that makes me fall to my knees and thank the Lord I have it, is when I have a load of corn to take of the cob. You just push the corn long ways over the blade. It takes sections of kernels off perfectly, quickly and contains them in the bowl its propped over. I wish I had made a video, but we got all our corn put up about 2 weeks ago.

That shucking works great. Have you ever seen ''Tractor Time with Tim'' He puts the shucked cobs on a cordless drill and uses some type of gadget to get the kernels off, really fast.

Brings back memories. My Mom would usually make more of a Cream Style Corn. After cutting the corn, rake the knife down the cob a couple times and get all the juice out.

I have a corn cutter that splits the kernels as you run the corn cob over it. Makes the best creamed corn you ever ate, and you don't have to add anything to it. Also it works great in corn fritters.

That's the first time I've ever seen anybody process their corn in the way that you did. I see your using a high carbon Dexter knife. I have a set of those all the way down to a paring knife and I really like using them. They really seem to hold a good Edge on them.

What a great way to work corn up!! Going to have to put this to use sometime soon!! Just a reminder that the Galax Fiddlers Convention begins next Monday. It's the 85th year. People will start showing up with their campers by the end of this week. My little city rocks during Fiddlers week...they come from all over the world. Great to see Laken and Finley again...tell the girls we miss seeing them. Hope ya'll have a great week...God bless!

So you’re blanching it on the cob in the husk and then shucking it. Definitely an outdoor endeavor, but much faster than how we do it. We shuck it the traditional way then slice it off the cob and blanch it. Cool the pan in ice water then into the freezer bags. Hard work but I can do it in the mechanical room in the basement in the air conditioning. Everything is a trade off.😊

That way works for micro corn, too. I freeze corn. Just as it comes from the stalk. No blanching. To cook I throw it in the micro 1 minute, cut off the butt, put it back in for 3 minutes, and squeeze it out of the shucks. The silk comes off just like that. Try an ear or two. I swear it works good. I just put it in a cardboard box in the freezer. No wrap, no bag, nothing. The one minute is so I can cut off the stalk because I'm not so strong any more (old), and it's easier. It lasts just fine from year to year. I do one ear at a time in the micro. I'm sure you could do more, I just don't know the timing for that.

Looks great. Gonna have to get you a different bunt pan with a bigger hole for next time lol. Love those old hickory knives. I got me a set too! One thing you might want to get is a pair of rubberized BBQ gloves. I got a set from amazon and they are great for stuff like getting that corn out of the boiling water. I got mine for processing chickens but they would work great for you scalding that corn too! Keep it up buddy. You are doing a great job.

Mighty impressed with the accuracy of your eye to hand cutting of the end of the ear off … in one fell swoop! That’s quite the “production line”🌽. How much more do you still have growing? What do you do with the shucks? Can it be chopped & fed to cows or pigs? ( sorry about all the questions 😉🙃)
