I also felt like the French team was hesitant to bench Rudy at first. They don’t want to disrespect him because he’s been part of the team longer. Kudos to Rudy tho because he said in an interview that he’s willing to do anything for their team to thrive and I think that was his “go-ahead” to their team, and after this statement, he was put on the bench. Lessort even got more playing time than him and he’s Rudy’s back-up center.

the part you had some questions CLAN is where they ask Batum if the switch from playing Wemby and Gobert was not too late (the switched for semi-finale) given that during preparation games in the FIBA context they saw the defenses were very aggressive defending tall players at the hip. Batum essentially answered that they had to at least try a they see the Wemby + Gobert combo as the future of team France.
More than the future he said they were en debt with Gobert for his participation and beign the face of the French team the last couple of years.
I can see that wemby really wouldn’t need like a side piece for lack of a better term but I mean with Collin’s situation you can put him next to mamu or basey for sure off the bench and I think that would work beautifully.

What Batum said is Gobert carried them the last couple of years and he feels they need to keep trying to pair Gobert and Wemby because of that. He said for the olympics they have short time to adapt and they cant wait it to work and made the change benching Gobert. I think they will keep trying because Gobert is a great player for them. For that to work Wemby will need to shot like 38% from three.

In fairness, Wemby/ Yabusele and Wemby/ Lessort are more compatible combinations than Wemby/ Gobert. Lessort is Rudy’s back-up center and I heard that he’s one of the best bigs in the Euroleague.

Spurs need a back-up center for when Wemby sits. That’s usually when the other teams make their runs. Collins is not it. I hope Bassey is healthy enough this season to become Wemby’s constant back-up. Collins can become Sochan’s back-up PF.
Mamu is a better backup for sochan than Collins
@@Marmaladeinmycup I agree, we’ll see if the Spurs will give Mamu more minutes. Mamu seems like he has better chemistry with Wemby than both Sochan and Collins.
