      A moat, that's good I like that. I need to get a moat for an extra layer of security.

    Solid advice but just keep insurance on your bikes and if it get stolen you get it paid off and if its paid off you get a hella down payment for the new one.

  • @dezfan

    I like all of those options. I always go toward a layered approach. A few of these in combination make for better security. That and a bright light (when available) make for good security. Maybe something to consider for SXS use, is the old Club steering wheel lock in combination with some of the options you listed.👍🏼

    • @NavigateOffroad
      @NavigateOffroad  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your input, Dezfan. I agree that multiple options used together is a safer option. I also try and keep it some though because I've found the harder or more tools someone needs to keep with them for this type of thing, the quicker they are to simply get lazy and do none of it.

    A tip for lazy proofing the disc brake lock is attaching a mock key to the cable that goes in the ignition to keep you from throwing the key in and taking off without a thought.

    Great video we work hard for our money and our ATV’S ,SXS aren’t cheap, it’s one of reasons I got rid of my open Trailer for and enclose one to cut down on the possibility of them being stolen plus I have full coverage insurance on them.

    • @NavigateOffroad
      @NavigateOffroad  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the compliment! I like the enclosed trailer idea for security. The biggest problem I have with enclosed trailers is storing it when your not using the massive thing 😆. They are awesome for travels though!

  • @tomh2765
    @tomh2765 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    It's not a lock, but I have a GPS tracker hidden under a panel in my sXs. Unless it is inside a trailer or under a metal roof the cops won't have any trouble following the trail to find it again. It saves you from having to shoot someone.

    Anything with a key can be overcome with a battery drill and a diamond tip bit to drill the lock out in 30-60 seconds. Just go look at all the steering wheel lock videos. Thief’s have so many easy tools now with cordless saws and drills. - Install a GPS unit is best imo.

    Cables are great! Only problem is putting a cheap Master Locks on them. DECENT HARD TO PICK LOCK WILL COST $50 and up! Combination Locks are a joke.. Rotating Spin Wheel locks are jokes too.. I'm no Lock Expert but I took up lock picking as a sport few years back.... Master locks that are bought at Walmart or Big Box Stores are easily pickable... An amateur can pick one open in under 10 seconds

    • @NavigateOffroad
      @NavigateOffroad  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea, I dont really disagree with you. That's why I think it's best to hide the lock under the machine or whever as much as possible making it harder to get to and attempt to pick.
      At the end of the day though, I dont personally see the point it purchasing something like a $50 lock for this type of situation. If someone really wants to steal your machine, they could just bring a decent pair of bolt cutters and cut the cable. Bottom line, all these methods are meant to help deter someone from stealing. Outside of human intervention if someone wants to steal an ATV, they can find a way. If locks and alarms did the trick, cars wouldnt get stolen every day.

  • @DirtyRiceOffroadCrew

    OK. That is some good stuff and all but say some skumbag still manages to run off with your machine.
    Does anyone here use some kind of tracking device and service to always have eyes on your machines? Brief google search turns up a service called Scout.

    • @NavigateOffroad
      @NavigateOffroad  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a good point man. I think GPS trackers are a great option. Honestly though, it's the price that deters me. At a big upfront cost, plus a monthly service fee, I'm just not sure I'm willing to pay that. Maybe if I owned a Turbo S and my machine was worth $30,000?

  • @foxxx5.941

    • @NavigateOffroad
      @NavigateOffroad  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea, I agree. But with all of these methods, they are only going to do so much. Not method can truly keep someone from stealing your machine (without human intervention) if they really want it. Cables can be cut, sirens can be smashed, etc. Hence why cars still get stolen every day!
