2021 Porsche 911 Carerra Review & Drive | Is the Base 911 Worth It?

2021 Porsche 911 Carrera review by James Salvatore. The 2021 Porsche 911 Carrera is the base car starting at 101k. It has a 3.0 twin turbo flat six that revs to 7,500 RPM producing 379 hp and 331 lbs of torque. The power is put down to the rear wheels via a 8 speed dual clutch transmission and it weighs 3,354 lbs. From a launch it'll do 0-60 in just 4.0 seconds and has a top speed of 182 mph. The infotainment system features a 11 inch touch screen with apple CarPlay and android auto and google maps for the stock software. In this video I review the 2021 Porsche 911 Carrera (992) and discuss if its worth buying or if you should stick to purchasing the 911 Carrera S and 911 Carrera 4S models. I’ve been driving a base Carrera and a 4S this summer. The 380 and 440 horsepower numbers are really not much different or the S worth the money IMHO. I have had both 0 to 60 in 3.8 sec. The 4S can get down to 3.5 sec but is that difference worth $24,000? I would rather drive the slower car fast. The S can only really be used / appreciated on the A5 or A6 Autobahn routes in Germany.

To put things into perspective. I used to own a 2017 Camaro 2SS with 455hp 455trq. The base 911 is much quicker and that Camaro felt plenty fast as far as I'm concerned.

Instrumented testing from multiple outlets reveal that the Base can do 0-60 in 3.5s.

The other cars are not significantly faster ... they're about 0.3 seconds quicker to 100kmh ... or a couple of seconds a lap on track! Save yourself a ton of cash and buy the Carrera.

991.2 pdk better. There is a noticeable delay with downshifts in manual mode in the 992 which is not present in the 991.2. It’s why I choose a 991.2 4s

I’ve been # 1 for an allocation of a 2022 Carrera 4 ( yes…a BASE model ) since Oct of 2021.
I think sometimes folks get a bit caught up in the “horsepower” mentality.
I bought a 2017 Macan S instead of a GTS and put the money in options.
I absolutely love the car and can’t remember the last time I missed those “tenths of a second to 60” times.
Have done the same with the Carrera…….and don’t think I’ll miss 60…..or 200+ hp.
I’m certainly not besmirching those who choose it. It’s your money, your car.
