Gotta love some white belt action. That coach yelling the whole time was pretty good.
Super çalm clean instructions.
Bro I was thinking the same thing. Coach staying calm and giving simple instructions. Submission only seems like a completely different game
usually if your a blue belt or higher the coach just kinda sits back and is like “phhhh he’ll win”😂💀
@@ianclements5905 Yeah, I definitely wouldn’t waste so much energy going for a takedown when points don’t matter. Just pull guard and get to work lol
Wonder if they went to Wawa or got a hoagie after the tournament? #StrongPhillyAccent
Can’t lie I was rooting for Tom
Solid dude for sure!
Wish I didn't read the comments before watching :/
I thought Tom the better fighter too. Didn't understand why Tom didn't start with a locked triangle like the Gracie Barra guy did so wasn't an equal starting point in my eyes
@@ezigwe I thought the same thing. Tom started with his foot at his calf.
I'm exhausted just from watching
Literally. I just refuse to believe 2 white belts did this for 10 minutes
white belt match is always the most interesting part of a bjj tournament
Why?
@@JosueBarradas probably because they make so many mistake i funny idk I do kickboxing
@@shfsavage1177 Lmao i do muay thai and just started jiu jutsu, i dont know what is happning lol
@@brathersadda9436 I bet riiiight about now things are coming together and the addiction has set in. Still rolling bro?
@@FrontiersOfTheFuture Yeah bro you exactly right. I roll twice and do muay thai twice a week. Finally getting the hand of stuff and i can pull new stuff of aswell in sparring. + i dont insta get submitted with my coach anymore LOL. Its quite nice and im thinking of joining beginner tournements. Thanks for asking bro!!!
Watching this 10 years after my first white belt tournament: Good stuff, good heart, keep training guys. Remembering my first white belt tournament from 10 years ago: TO THE DEAAAAAAAAAATHHHH!!!! Spaz mode engaged!
Hey motto do you want to fight me as we both wear a nylon windbreaker jacket
Its amazing how good White Belts can be. I think a good White Belt could submit the majority of untrained people. Which just shows how good and effective Jiu Jitsu is a self defense art.
Some say they're still looking for Gabriel Montezuma
God bless 🙏
gotta love the gas tank of a white belt. savages.
when 12 minutes hit and you realized Tom was not the main character...
Good shit bro! Glad this popped up in my feed. Just started bjj this year. Motivation 👊🏽
Keep it up!
Hows it going? I started 2 months ago.
Same here i started last month. Cant wait until im ready to compete
Coach is on point. Few great scraps. Thanks and Congrats
\a tip from one GB to another, when you are having a hard time with the triangle, grab you ankle and keep you foot in there hip. Put your other hand on your own knee as a frame. He can no longer smash your triangle. Then you need to shoulder walk backwards as fast as you can. There will stretch them out letting you figure 4 the leg easier and tighter. Also turn your foot out and crunch the knee into your calf as you squeeze. It will make for a much tighter triangle
you grab your shin not your ankle, you can mess up your ankle , and you will have better control holding on to shin
@@brucewillis2486 especially us skinny shin dudes
@@brucewillis2486 I can confirm that, you should go for the shin.
You guys are the best, I appreciate you!
Three great matches. Congratulations bro. Putting in work baby
Great fights sir, you give us rest of the white belts hope, plus it was nice to see that judo take down attempt in the 1st match
good fight fellas. good sportsmanship all around, fun to see you go all the way to the #1 spot!
Good shit! Keep training
Amazing rolls, much respect and congrats on the victory. Very inspiring for my own upcoming first competitions
Wished I did some comp before Covid..good stuff!!
That was awesome! Love the little medal fix at the end too
Great job man, best of lucks to you 👍🏻
GB Denver here. Great performance and perseverance when it looked like you were toast.
ALSO Nice job ignoring all the trolls providing unsolicited "advice". Keep it up! 💪🏽
Looked like fun good luck in future competition. That quote behind the winners podium is the USJA credo, by Teddy Roosevelt
Dude, your Coach/ Professor was on it! Dude you did so well! congrats killer!
Congratulations! Really good competition for White belts. Every match was hard fought
Frikin awesome sportsmanship from all of you ladz. Osss my brothers 🤜🤛
This looks like so much fun!
Best one I’ve watched yet!
Let's go tom! U have an amazing supportive coach!
Keep up the good work King 💯
Great work!
I love the coach saying "get your head free" like any other thought is going through his mind lol
Good work man! Some hard fought battles.
Nice work young man!
Good job big guy. Congrats 🤙🏾
Omg congratulations man!
That young man earned it.
Good job Gracie Barra!!! Much respect, from GB Kapolei Hawaii!!!
Great to hear from ya!
Amazing bro!
Damn man you got an exciting style. Keep at it.
Good stuff mate. Way to stick out that last round.
Just the amount of time of this match is a great achievement.
Badass bud, good rolls.
Just awesome, nice transition to the a-bar !
Thank ya man, definitely sloppy
WTG Jake. Inspiring brother!
that was quite the battle good shit mate
I love watching white belt matches.
Same especially as a white belt lol
I watched 6 and a half minutes of Tom and knew he’d be a star
Well done man!! That must’ve felt good to win the tournament 😎 I’m doing BJJ 4 weeks now so this was good to watch, I can just barely follow it 😂 best of luck in the next one 👍🏻
Hey Thomas let's fight this week as we both wear a nylon windbreaker jacket
Good job. Keep training.
wonderful match for last one
Excellent listening Tom
Good stuff! When you attempted the first triangle, crunch the torso and control the head (posture). If you had pulled the head, you could have finished him there! Great job though, very fun to watch!
This was an awesome vid and dang they had to work for those medals!
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Toms coach the goat 🐐
well done fella
Gotta love it, that guy in the first part of the vid is from my gym Gracie barra
awesome!
Nice job bros. Good roll. Loved the sportsmanship.
I'm another white belt warrior about to enter one of these in February. Same organizers, Goodfight. So, in this ruleset, do you have to do takedowns or can you butt-scoot menacingly? It looked like the ref stood you up after disengaging.
yo opino que el otro compadre el con rasgos asiáticos mantuvo el control con mucha tecnica.
Era rapido y eficaz en el momento de escapar de los sometimientos el mostraba conocimientos conocia bien las tecnicas.
Igualmenta felicitaciones y dale tu corte
Outstanding job 💛💙🙏🏽🤙🏽
That coach is awesome
Nothing goes harder than a hungry white belt!
Some really good skills for one stripe white
en la segunda pelea fue muy buena, intensa y rapida
From the arm of my chair, these fights had a lot going on just like a lot of the other fights I have seen, the only difference I notice is that higher belts conserve energy more, especially in really safe positions.
For sure! Comes from experience in numerous competitions
Awesome
man that guy has some heart .. he was losing every match before wining them all
Dude I did my first tourney last week and I do not understand how these guys are rolling this long
Everyone was so aggressive snd explosive I got gassed so fast
And I’m in pretty decent shape
@@codyanderson8196 go to wrestling practices if you can. Helps me out a lot
That first match - they were goddamn savages. 12 minute match….that’s black belt level stamina - was legitimately insane to watch.
Sick
Good coaching from sideline
Showed a ton of heart bro great job. Do you do anything for conditioning outside of practice?
Appreciate it man! Yea tons of rounds on the mat helped plus I'm an athlete outside BJJ but I have never felt so gassed before like was after those 8ish minutes in competition!
Got my first EBI / first tournament soon nov 13th as a white belt thanks for the vid! Hitting the 201-250lb weight group im nervous... any advice from and bjj bros and sisters would be appreciated immensely!
Hey David would love to take you on as we both wear a nylon windbreaker sometime
Video showed up in my recommendations, I know its almost a year later and your game as likely improved quite a bit while you were stuck trying to triangle his left arm was free at 3:12 kimura the arm if possible. This is advice from a fellow white belt who has issues finishing with just the triangle.
Just watching as a wrestler getting into jiu jitsu
Looks fun
gotta give it a shot!
Sweep his leg Tommy!
Not sure how this got into my recommendations but good job! Keep your toes planted on the ground with the soles of your feet facing down when in someone's guard though. It will improve your posture dramatically and make it much harder to be unbalanced and swept.
Engaging the hips is key as well
Awesome rolls. Are you from MT? Where at in the 406?
Not Montana, currently in Denver these days. Was visiting Montana for a bit not too long ago though
Good endurance
How tight was that head and arm choke in your last match? Looked pretty tight!
A good head and arm! unfortunately for him he started to gas out for a solid minute of it
Nice triangle bro
At 0:11 what is that brown belt doing?
Bro I thought this video was for Tom 💀
How long have you been doing jiu-jitsu? I'm almost 3 months in and I want to compete, but with gracie jiu-jitsu, I'm learning the moves alone and not really rolling yet. I wonder if that's a detriment to my progress
what kind of bjj gym are you at that they’re not letting you roll?
I trained for 5ish months or so at Gracie Barra which included live rolling and positional training. It’s extremely important to condition yourself with other teammates of higher rank not only for the condition but for learning from their experiences. Technique goes out the window when your exhausted so it’s best to get used to it!
@@mishapettigrew612 a gracie gym, they dont let you roll until you complete a stupid amount of their curriculum
@@BonerSexGaming the reason why is because Gracie jiu jitsu was designed specifically for self defense. If a brand new white comes in and is taught a submission most likely that submission is meant to break an opponent or seriously injured them. Every white belts always goes 110% percent now imagine that same white belt doing a damn arm bar or a heel hook. And not knowing when to stop. Because he /she has no control and don't know much. Hence why Gracie jiu jitsu students are not allowed to roll for a good bit of time but guarantee that once they can they will be drilled so many of these movements efficiently it will only take them a short while until they adapt and truly become a force to be reckoned with. They will adapt to people not just thinking jiu jitsu and grappling with them but as well as getting hit in the process. In the street not everyone is only going to grapple around with you they will throw bombs. A bjj sport oriented practioner will not know the first thing when getting with bombs in a street fight and unfortunately will most likely get knocked out.
Hey clay I would love to fight you as we both wear a nylon windbreaker jacket sometime soon
Nice
This was better than Cobra Kai.
When Toms Head was in the leg lock would it be legal to pick the guy up and slam him?
No cant do that you would get dq
Not in BJJ competitions, in MMA he could and is usually the best way out
God is good
brown belt is farting 0:09
🤣 was he flexing a kink in his back!? Weird
14 seconds in an a mans trying to push out a fart. That’s when you know it’s gonna be good
Wow
Tom rules
Amazing swear he is a gas tank
Did Gabriel Montezuma make it to his match?
😂
can’t lie i was getting tired from this long ass match
Im 95% sure the ref is a brown belt at my gym
Not sure why this was recommended, but I enjoyed watching! Nice fights. Why did the guy get to start with a locked-in triangle in the first fight in OT? That seems pretty cheap.
It is a submission only tournament no points or penalties. It's kinda like most OT first one to score wins. Some tournaments are points and theres usually a winner that way. I'm not sure what happens after they both escape triangle never seen it get that far.
Can we get a "submission only and coaches shut tf up" tournament? ;-)
😂 there’s a time and a place for coaches at tournaments
